In our latest Pikeville History Moments video, we tell the story of the day in October of 1968 that President Lyndon Johnson visited Pike County to dedicate newly constructed Fishtrap Dam. Fishtrap Dam was constructed as a flood control project to address the history of flooding along the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River in Eastern Kentucky.
The visit took place near the end of a tumultuous year for the country and less than ten days before President Johnson's chosen successor, Hubert Humphrey faced off against Richard Nixon in the Presidential election.
Special thanks goes out to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum for providing us with video from their RU-vid channel along with additional photographs and information for our use in this short feature.
