I met him at 1984 st Anne's feast in Hoboken as a youngster. He came with Sinatra when he was running for reelection. One of my first memories was him being nice to me. God Bless this man. I love him
Wow, that's awesome! I'm a huge Reagan fan, even though he died when I was a little boy and he was President before I was born. Did you get a picture with him or anything? Regardless, what an experience, and I would pay good money for that. :)
@@seanpeters3690 we have a picture of him drinking a draft beer at the bar a few feet away. My grandfather was a retired cop in Hoboken and my great grandfather and Sinatra's father owned a bar together there. I was born in 1981 and this happened a day after my 3rd bday.
@@ajcaprio2361 that's amazing. I'd love to get that opportunity. I'm from Alaska and I've met both my Senators, Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski and one 1 representative, Don Young (he's actually the Dean on the House), but I've never met a President. I'd especially like to meet President Reagan, he was such a great guy and a great President.
Why do you believe him to be the best president? He seems like a charismatic fella, but are there other reasons why people seem to love him? Obviously people must really like him in many ways in order to re-elect him in that huge of a sweep.
As a youngster in the late 70's and a teen in the 80's, I remember this great man brought a feeling of security that wasn't present with the previous president. He was a wonderful president in the best decade. He is missed. God bless his memory.
President Reagan was far and away the best president of my lifetime. He made us proud not only of being Americans but being who we are personally as well. He didn't care about race, color, creed, sexual orientation or anything else like that. President Reagan loved America. Period. When I stop to think of what has become of his shining city on the hill and what the following presidents and their parties have done with all the good he did, it makes me want to projectile vomit everything i've got right down to my shoes. I love this country with all my heart and soul. There is absolutely no other place on earth I would rather live then right here in the great U.S.A. period!
foulpotato, you presume incorrectly. Obama will go down in history as the single worst president in the history of presidents as the most destructive, divisive and incompetent president we've ever seen with Clinton running a very close second being only the second president in history to be impeached. As far as Bush goes, I think he got screwed in his first term with the whole 9-11 thing. He has said outright that he did want very much to defend our coutry but not in the way the Democrats drove him into. I don't believe Bush was a strong enough president to handle all of the shit that was thrown at him and thats why I think he gave up trying about half way through his second term and stopped trying. I think trump will turn out to be the best president we've had since Reagan. He knows how to run very large industries and I've always believed that economically this country should be run like a business and he's a great negotiator for foreign policies. He's done great so far. The economy is a 30 year record highs, other countries are starting to respect America again and all this in spite of all the left's constant attacks, lies and bullshit trying to bring him down. I swear I have never in my life seen or even heard of a once respectable political party go to such great lengths to sabotage and unseat a duly elected president. Unbelievable.
@@rymdalkis yea and we care why again? We have the most freedoms u can never think of. American is and will always be the best country on the face of the earth
@@elitewolfzz567 Look up any freedom index and you'll find that my country (Sweden) is freer than you. Hell, since 2016 you're not even ranked as a full democracy
A great literary genius and a statesman and a leader and a peace lover and always cherished the dream to make America economically strong. He could do it in his lifetime. I loved Reagan very much, his eloquence, humor and power to deliver quality speeches at home and abroad. Thank you.
Also, I'm not sure what you watched. He didn't tell the crowd to stop booing. But Mondale deserved it due to his classless treatment of Reagan in the campaign.
Well Diane we respect your view. To us based on foreign policy, it would be FDR and Truman. Sure we respect Reagan for his brave foreign policy in Europe.
No, the reason why Mondale won his home state is because he was more well-liked than Reagan in that particular state, as was the case with voters in the District of Columbis.
I was born in 2004, I’ve learned about so many presidents and the most i payed attention to were the Republican Presidents. A few weeks ago I asked my parents about who they thought was the best President, they said Ronald Reagan, and yes im studying him rn without school lol. I wish he is still alive today, may he rest in peace.
Reagan was really the best and would be able to work with both sides.. I remember how much better we were off after 4 years as far as Jobs and just in living. If you ever can get to the Reagan Museum go it is really a beautiful place to see.
He was a patriot that loved his country and spoke very well! Our countries problems are easily fixed because it involves less govt which is what the USA was founded on!
Ronald Reagan won the 1984 Election with 58% of the popular vote and 525 electoral votes out of 538, compared to Walter Mondale's 40% and 13 electoral votes from his home state of Minnesota and the District of Columbia. Reagan received 54 million votes, a record that was only broken by any other presidential candidate in the 2004 election 20 years later, by both candidates: George W. Bush and John Kerry.
Imagine being a democrat that night vs a republican that night. Damn, it’d be like going to a funeral vs going to the greatest party ever. Testament to how united the country was that Reagan almost won all 50 states. I still hate Reagan, but respect the man could sell his ideas
Unlike the USA of today, people put more weight on the qualifications of the candidate and the policies they proposed than they did to whatever party they happened to belong to. Had Reagan run in 2020, you can bet your ass that California and New York would've voted for Mondale. And had Reagan been running as a Democrat in 2020, even if he were running on the exact same platform as in 1984, then you can bet your ass that Texas, Alabama and Wyoming would've ditched him.
Whether you agree with him or not, the reason he could win and people like Gerald Ford and Bob Dole couldn’t was because he had charisma. This is the last time to date that Washington, New York, Oregon, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island were in the Republican column on election night. Wisconsin wouldn’t find itself in the GOP column on election night until 2016.
You are a racist too. I noticed how you spelled all the other president's names correctly except Obama. You spelled Obomba, which has racial overtones to it! BIGOT!
Well, even Reagan chose not to say anything civil about Mondale, other than he'd conceded. He was apparently furious about Mondale's invective against him in the dying days of the campaign, and waited to see what Mondale said in his concession speech. When Mondale failed to be gracious, Reagan decided to write Mondale out of his speech.
What the hell are you talking about? Mondale was gracious towards Reagan in his concession speech, primarily when he said "He (Reagan) has won; we are all Americans" at the beginning of his speech.
Mondale was kind of a dick but this election was over before it started. Mr. Reagan had done so well in his first term that all the Dems had to decide was who they were going to send to the slaughter.
It was a time when California was a great state... look at California now, people leaving - that makes president Reagan even more missed in today's politics.
So were the big corporations and the richest people in the USA who've bought and subverted the political process to their advantage. They were very pleased that Reagan was elected.......twice.
Unemployment would continue to decline, and the USSR would be on the verge of collapse by the end of Reagan's second term. He was one of the most successful presidents in US history.
Back when G.I. Joe, Transformers, He-man, The A-Team, Knight Rider, Voltron, Hill Street Blues, T.J. Hooker, AirWolf were on T.V. And the news wasn't totally communist and propagandist for democrats yet! I was 6 years, going on 7 old when this happened! I still remember this, watching this in tv. I didn't really know know what was happening, but I remember this was a BIG moment. Now, that I'm older, soon to hit the golden age of life, I wish this country could go back to simpler times, where people didn't want to kill each other just because of their views.
President Reagan repeatedly said that America is the country of American peoples. I guess free electoral election campaign means that, because it’s Americans citizens’ votes will count the winning leaders. This is why Americans’ happiness will be very important for able and capable leaders to govern peacefully to ensure America’s greatness and strength accompanied with Americans’ happiness by preserving, protecting and defending freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of the opportunities principles and societies, because Americans of all will love freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of the opportunities to enjoy and achieve American dreams together. RIP both President Reagan and President Bush 41.
