How buildings so close and with a clear line of vision to the President could be left unguarded is very hard to fathom. Its a country of 330 million people, the world's greatest universities, and innovative people. I just pray that the most qualified people were in place and not some losers like the diversity hires at Harvard, UPenn and MIT who were totally undeserving of their offices.

I live in Pittsburgh, about an hour south of Butler, no Pennsylvania isn’t a dangerous state, crime in Philly has been bad but that’s a major city, Butler is a tiny rural farm town

You are thinking everyone at the rally was carrying firearms.. Each & every person had to be scanned as they entered the rally area. Scanned like at the airport. Even the shooter left his rifle in his car and went through security check. Unfortunately, he left the rally & walked back to his car and retrieved his rifle. There was a ladder by the building which he used to get on top of the building. América is no longer the Wild, Wild West. I’m in my late 60’s and have never in my whole life observed someone flashing a gun. My husband has a permit to carry, however, he only carries when we take a long road trip.

It was a 5.56mm which is .223 caliber. Unlike a .22 which is a relatively low velocity rimfire cartridge (less than 1500 fps) a 5.56mm is a high power centerfire cartridge with a very high velocity, over 3000 fps. Double the mass of the bullet and you double the impact energy but double the velocity and that squares the impact energy. Also a .22 LR has a bullet weight of roughly 40 grains and a 5.56 is roughly 60 grains. At 100 yards a .22 with a 40 grain bullet has roughly 90 ft lbs of energy whereas a 5.56mm with a 55 grain bullet has roughly 1000 ft lbs of energy at 100 yards. What you hear first - the snap - is the bullet's sonic boom as it passes the mic and what you here next - the pop - is the report from the rifle.

The USA is not unsafe at all outside of the urban drug dealing centers. Having lived in the northeast, LA , and Miami I can say I had never ever seen a gun other than in the police except for once in a grocery store in Miami where someone had a conceal carry and it pocked out from their holster Honestly , you all are way less safe in Western Europe where there are many immigrant urban zones totally unassimilated , totally opposed to western values. Many of the zones are packing even higher than any US city .. the attacks on Paris the Bataclan and Charlie hebdo demonstrate that
