A pressure-composition phase diagram for a solution describes the conditions under which the solution is found in the liquid phase, or the gaseous phase, or when the two phases coexist.
The bubble point and dew point curves describe the boundaries of the gas-liquid coexistence region on this phase diagram.

Professor Stuart, your approach is the best I've ever found. In general the concepts you present are by no means trivial, but the way you walk us through them is simply enlightening. Thanks again!

Once you understand the topics, they're not nearly as intimidating as they seem at first. Thanks for the kind words.

wish you have also explained the lever rule... extremely good lecture nonetheless...

You're right, I skipped the lever rule in favor of other topics for my particular class. But it is definitely a favorite topic of nearly every other PChem and thermo course. I will add it to my list of potential future video topics

Hey prof, I'd like to know if there's a particular book you're using as reference or some books where we could read about this. Thank you :)

Great series, great videos! I have a question: If I got a closed bottle with air and water in it, does the partial pressure of water vapor at equilibrium state equals the vapor pressure of water at that temperature?
@PhysicalChemistry
@PhysicalChemistry 3 года назад
If it's pure water, yes. That's exactly the meaning of the vapor pressure.

sir is the phase diagram curve here experimental ,or it is derived from raoults law
@funlearning5445

Sir, why vapour composition curve lie always above the liquid composition curve if temperature is constant?
@PhysicalChemistry
@PhysicalChemistry 2 года назад
On the pressure-composition diagrams discussed in this video, it is the other way around: the pressure-composition curve for the liquid lies above (i.e at higher pressures) than the one for the vapor. This is because liquids condense to gases when the pressure is increased, and not the other way around.
