Pressure on Booktube
What's my take on booktube pressure? What do I think about booktube cliques? I don't think so much about it, really. I don't experience pressure, and I think that people who do feel the pressure should step back and take a look at how it is really inconsequential. There are far more important things.
My name is Jay Dee Archer, and as an author, I love to explore many worlds. I enjoy reading fantasy and science fiction, which I also write. But for inspiration, I love to read novels, watch science fiction movies and TV (especially Star Trek), and travel. On my channel, I talk a lot about fantasy, science fiction, and travel, my main sources of inspiration for my writing.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Some of us are really just doing this as a hobby. We read what we want make videos when it suits us and there is no "pressure" to do anything. If some booktubers are trying to gain subscribers and become large channels with a large following then they have "pressure" but ironically, it's pressure that they put upon themselves. I think its about ambition and personal drive. I think nobody is actually pressuring them. They see what is popular and they emulate it to try to be popular as well. It's internal pressure. I will sometimes record a video two or three times because I don't say all of what I intended or I think that I could have worded it better etc. People may or may not like it, or agree, or even watch it... in any case I don't claim that I am pressured to make a certain type of video or read certain books because it's a choice. At the same time I am also not trying to amass a huge following. It would be interesting to see how many youtubers on this whole site would stop making videos if they weren't making them to please others rather than themselves... I honestly don't mean any disrespect or pressure by this comment. It's just some random thoughts I have about this issue on booktube. It's not even all of my random thoughts but just some immediate ones.

Cheers to you. For me, the pressure would be to show I care as well but time and energy are limited and I can either see 50 videos or do my own thing. I’ve always done my own thing and when time allows I do the BookTube. Fortunately no drama on my channel with the exception of a stalker (fun!!!). You do you, my friend. Cheers

I think age plays a role and weaves itself in and out of booktube issues more than is talked about. I was a bit of an outcast in highschool and feel like I've lived most of my life ouside of the box. I'm not afraid to do something different and take risks. However it's hard to deny that channels that step too much outside of the norm tend to grow at a slower pace. I don't know what it's like growing up as a teenager in the age of social media where social proof can be mistaken for self esteem etc. It's easy for us to look back and say we never felt pressured as teens and didn't care what other people thought back then, but our minds are great at burying painful, uncomfortable and embarrassing memories. We likely felt more pressure than we care to recall. As a parent of a teenager and a teacher myself, I try to remain empathetic and remind myself they have to go through the motions like everyone else. All I can do is listen, be patient and try to set a good example by not focusing my energy in negative areas I don't want to grow.

I reckon we might be cut from the same cloth. I don't feel any pressure regarding booktube I do it because I like it. The day that stops I stop. I'm glad you mentioned the drama thing I watched a video the other day about discussing booktube drama on here and felt it was all just nonsense and in many ways encouraged it. Some folk thrive on it. The way I see it I know the content I like and the content I don't and that does me fine. Smashing video fella :)

Well said sir! Perhaps some people view it with the perspective that they are creating content catered to their audience rather than themselves in order to grow their channel - this may result in ‘burnout’ and anxiety/depression when things aren’t received as well as they planned. When creators who focus on themselves and make the content they like fell less pressure and get more enjoyment out of it. But what do I know, just a theory. I feel little pressure. This is a hobby for me. I’ll make what I make and let people find me rather than cater my content for the eyes of the masses. Not everyone has to like everything all the time - and that’s OK. Good discussion.

definitely, agree that you should read what you want! if you truly love what you are reading, you'll be so convincing that others would want to read it too!

I'm from different country but in ours community is somthing exactly like that ! I mean is something like "If you don't read this book you are not "the real booktuber" " and also full of cliques. I feel pressures but however I'm not in any "cliqus" so it's easier to just do your own thing. And yes, age is in it important because its only seen to channels like teen to early twentieth. The older someone is, the less of this phenomeon. Very important and good saying video ! Sorry If I made any mistake ;)
