9:00 I'm not sure I agree with this. We seek God's validation, not that of man. It is important to be kind to all people, but sometimes that means doing the thing that they will not perceive as kind. If we define kindness based on the world, we may get stuck affirming unfulfilling lifestyles.
@dominicpolverino2644

Exactly and unfortunately this is where it can lead. We must always be considerate of the people we talk to. We must never treat them as less than. Talking to people is great. We should be able to be friends who disagree with us...but we must also remember that the carnal mind isn't able to understand things because they are spiritually discerned. They are not our final authority on these things. There are people who have done awful things in the name of Jesus. This is definitely true and they will be judged for it. But we never use those examples as the template for not sharing the Gospel. I agree.

Wow thank you so much for preaching the gospel to a group of people that the church has mostly out casted. While not affirming sin. The balance is beautiful, and hard to find. Luckily my church has that balance. They affirm that homosexuality is sinful, and that’s exactly why the church should be a haven for same sex attracted people. Just like it’s a haven for MY deepest sin - as a straight person.

This guy's intentions are good (I've listened to a few of his podcasts) but he is compromising when it comes to the expounding of the truth. Yes, showing love to those who are hurting and who are confused with same sex attraction is what we as Christians are called to do. There however can be no deviation on the view of God regarding homosexuality.

I know it sounds like he is about to try to justify tossing out the Bible the entire time but watch to the end, he doesn't deviate. The one thing that I think is worth noting is that Jesus didn't go to every tax collector. He knew the heart and went to the ones that were ready to repent. But he makes a good point that Jesus was the one to show love first. (I would describe Agape as unconditional self sacrifice. Not sacrifice of what is right or the Bible but the self.)

The desire to sin is sin. If you find yourself with a desire to sin, in anyway, gay, straight or anything in between just repent and live in righteousness and if you fail repent and keep striving for perfection. A good book that helped me a ton on this issue is... "The mortification of sin" by John Owen. Should be a must read for modern western Christians everywhere.

@viperstriker4728
@viperstriker4728 7 месяцев назад
How is this different? I have heard of many that had same sex attraction but were saved from that temptation by Jesus? And despite what many belief this is not a trait innate to the person. But like depression or food taste it can't be changed with a single choice. I am sure you have looked at someone of the opposite sex and felt some lest that was immoral, is that not exactly what a gay person is feeling? Think about how king David killed a man over giving into the temptation of lust, yet God still saved David. I see no reason to think one sin is worse then another.

@Chris_Sheridan
@Chris_Sheridan Год назад
Humility is a key quality for those who are determined to avoid an immoral lifestyle choice - remember 'the wages sin pays is death' - this is NOT an area that is negotiable with God's righteous standards. Anyone who chooses to identify with the LGBTQ lifestyle and agenda and thinks that 'Pride' marches are a valid expression of their chosen sexual preference, clearly lack humility. Being humble means accepting biblical direction on moral matters - not selfishly looking for ambiguity or excuses to continue a wrong lifestyle - which includes: liars, greedy persons, thieves, murderers and those who practise homosexual behaviour. True Christians take evasive action and reject all behaviour that displeases God. Do you think Jesus had an easy time and made selfish decisions and took the easy route in life and just pleased himself? Being a Christian means making changes > taking in knowledge > taking responsibility > exercising self-control > self-discipline > repentance > sharing the bible message that leads to forgiveness and everlasting life on a restored paradise earth. - Matthew 6:9, 10

God is overjoyed to save those who both repent and believe. You cannot have one without the other. A person who believes without a repentant heart doesn't understand the urgency of John the Baptist when he said "Repent and believe of the kingdom of heaven is at hand." as he prepared the way for Jesus. If someone is a practicing homosexual and a professing Christian is living in a life of rebellion and defiance to a holy and just God. A strong sign of a true believer in Christ is not someone who is without sin or shame, but someone is always repenting of that sin. Now this does not mean that they are unsavable as all are in equal need of forgiveness. But no matter how much you push back the Bible is clear that God condemns homosexuality or any impure person outside the forgiveness of Christ.

He used Zacchaeus as an example who repented of his sin after meeting Jesus. So I think what he was saying is sometimes you have to eat with someone that is in sin to bring them out of sin. Jesus didn't have to tell Zacchaeus what sins he committed, he already knew. Homosexuals knew as well. So I think Preston is saying tell them about Jesus and the redemption from sin instead. I had a friend that is a communist, talks about full on revolution and all sorts of things I believe to be sins. We played games together and afterward would discuss politics for hours. Wasn't much we agreed on and sometimes he got pretty mad about it. Because of this and me not kicking him out of the group that plays games I got to share the gospel a few times when it came up in discussion. Unfortunately he didn't choose to repent and left the group on his own. From that experience I believe the best way is to be kind, welcoming, and speak only the truth. Those who reject it will leave on their own. But this way the choice is theirs to make. Though I draw the line at witchcraft. I would have kicked him from the group if he tried to bring that in instead of communism.

Misquotation. It's "love the person, not the sin." I don't have to hate a person's persona or hate their feelings or anything like that, but I absolutely can't love that what's keeping a person in estrangement to God. And if I hate my own sin for the way that it keeps me estranged from God and before He saved me it was what meant that I belonged in Hell under God's wrath, then I would have to hate the fact that others are suffering under a snare of Satan. It is sheer palatable rhetoric and doesn't truly make sense when we really think about being neutral about anyone's sin. I don't feel disgusted by homosexuality just as I don't always feel loving feelings when I minister. My love is a decision and so is my stance when I pray that a persons sin will be demolished so that they can no longer be a slave to sin.

Preston, of course, always present the truth with love, and yes, we are all sinners, but I would encourage you to read Romans 1:26-28 again, with an open heart and an open mind. The description of homosexuality as a lifestyle is a blatent oversimplification of human sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular. Such indoctrination of the collective societal psyche is paramount to the self validating delusion of heterosexuality possessing moral validity. The reason that we never hear the term " heterosexual lifestyle" is because there is no need to catogorize heterosexuality with such descriptively inherent connotative oversimplification in order to subconciously justify contempt and hatred through subjective comparison.

This gave me the courage to reignite not just one but several of my adulterous relationships! As I realized that God's prohibitions of sex outside of marriage and marriage being designed for a man and woman, must be false. Also since Jesus didn't mention homosexuality therefore the NT text (accept for Paul and who is Paul compared to Jesus), is not opposed to homosexuality, it must be the case that the concept of the Trinity is false since it too is not mentioned in the scriptures anywhere! Wait, something has gone terribly wrong here. The exegetical rules suggested here keep leading us to false interpretations. Didn't Jesus deflect the shame of culture in the pericope aduterae? Although this passage wasn't found in any of the early manuscripts it does seem to show us a few things common to other gospel pericopes where sin is involved. Namely, Jesus doesn't shame sinners but tells them the truth and also tells them to stop sinning! I didn't here anything in this message analyzing God's perspective about sexual relationships. The cultures surrounding both Mesopotamia and Eqypt practiced homosexuality. The culture around Rome and its vassal states such as Israel practiced homosexuality. Yet everywhere sex is discussed with an eye to proscribed behavior it is limited to a man and woman who are married! That people can't name chapter and verse to support that claim (on a plane), has nothing to do with whether the Bible teaches those views! Yet I'm sure many were convinced by the speakers self-righteous complaint (I don't ever want to be so sure about something I know so little about). It is a red-herring. Do we actually think that because we have forgotten the name of the formula "a squared + b squared = c squared," that it becomes untrue, or that the forgetful person should be precluded from using that formula? What a bunch of nonsense (known as a category mistake this professor fallaciously ties how one knows or justifies something as true with what is real or true about the world). But it was an effective way to virtue-signal, and divert the listener's attention from the truth of the statement that God calls all sexual relationships outside of 1 man and 1 woman whom are married, a sin. Not complex, no contextual issues, in fact twisting context on these passages and eisegeting them (reading into the text) is the only way we get a pro LGBTQ reading. He could have worked off his notes and given us the rhetorical methods that helped people understand God's perspective in a non-shaming way, which is how he starts the talk. We could have applied his methods to other marginalized groups even. But instead he ends up giving us flawed interpretive methods, that lead to flawed conclusions, not in any way representative on scripture. Not what I expected from a Biola prof.

Love the Lord then love your neighbor, or love neighbor then love God? Our society is divided by the wrong order of love. The subjects having to do with LGBTTTQQIAA, CRT, social justice/socialism, communism/equity, feminism, abortion rights, etc. are all pushing against our emotional strings to love, show compassion, just “listen”/accept, you must “celebrate”. The lost world, and the lost church has been arguing is the right order is to love your neighbor is the greatest and first commandment, then you are truly loving. The way of the world is idolatry in the name of love. Jesus says love God first, then second love your neighbor. The implication is that you will be able to rightly love your neighbor only if you FIRST love God. As a follower of Jesus, I believe Jesus is right, and the entire world can be and is wrong. Matthew 22:37-40 (ESV): And he [Jesus] said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

We don't believe sign miracles and the sign gifts continue after the close of the canon of Scripture and the death of the Apostles and those on whom they laid hands. There is no more need for signs. But what is you and your "husband's" excuse? Since you claim to believe in and have experienced the continuation of miraculous signs, why are you adopting a child rather than praying God will miraculously cause you to get pregnant and bear your "husband's" child? This seems to be a severe lack of faith on your part, O Malakoi Atheotroll. 😉

I had a friend who was gay and tried so much. Conversation therapy, abuse and countless hours with pastors. Disowned by his parents and friends. The church told him he was going to hell. He killed himself simply because of the lack of love that we are supposed to share. Yes, these conversations are being held to save lives. Whether or not you agree with it, would you rather it just be ignored? For suicides to continue? For self harm and division of families? If so then their blood is on your hands.

James Scotty The problem with you first premise has to do with the historical high treatment success rather than failure of individuals with LG ideation. Studies (before the science was thrown out and treating homosexuality was outlawed in the 1970s), showed that counseling interventions had as much as twice the efficacy as treating mild to moderate depression with counseling. So your premise about counseling seems to lack the context of the efficacy of counseling in general. Secondly, you highlight the shaming suggesting that the suicide is related. And that inference seems plausible until we look at the high suicide rate of LGBT community as opposed to heterosexual community across all ages and we still see very high rates (more than 1 in 3) who have had ideation and a plan to commit suicide, and 1 in 12 to 1 in 5 who have attempted suicide where there are less than 1 in 100 heterosexuals commit suicide. So we see in cultures where there is no stigma on homosexuality whatsoever, a greatly elevated suicide rate in these groups. While we want to encourage an approach that eschews shaming, we also find it to be unloving to let people maintain false beliefs and suffer with their delusions for a lifetime. Virtue-signaling without helping those who are hurting and deluded is what the Pharisees dos in the Bible. We don't want to be like them.

Uber Genie I mean yes, it is known that the LGBT community has much higher suicide rates. That comes with losing their friends and families over something not in their control. Are we to do nothing? Never address these issues? The issue here is that the two men that commented here purely don’t want the conversation to happen. That is the problem. When we’re scared of hearing about these other problems, we’re not helping anyone. Does Todd here know what he’s talking about when he is appalled that a LGBT group is meeting on campus?? Does he want those kids to sit alone and be depressed in silence? Has he considered that the group is for those seeking assistance with pastoral care? Or is he just ignoring something that makes him uncomfortable?

When I hear these kinds of message, I have to request for a bucket, and run from the auditorium less I be injured as the Lord brings down his judgment. I can see now why the seminary does not require students to be subjected to this. Biola, you are proud of this?

Just get to the point ... never seems to. Professor Sprinkle deliverance conversation like he's changing diapers ... Bottom line Biola has an LGBT club on campus -- not very well known -- and Sprinkle says he enjoyed his time on Biola most with them. Sin shows itself in various impulses: anger, addiction, sensuality, murder, etc. This topic could be on any of those, LGBT dominates the conversation. So tired of it.

The first thing a Christian should say to someone from the LGBT community is this: I am sorry. Please forgive us for it is we who sinned against God by failing to love you and truthfully represent who God and Jesus really is. We have fallen so short at being your neighbour, friend and advocate. We have failed to be there for you in times of need and pain. We have failed to love you and care for you. We have failed to just listen to you and cherish your story and life experiences for what it is. Anyone who points to your sexuality and calls it a sin or a reason for going to Hell... is a self-righteous hypocrite, no different to the Jewish leaders Jesus highly criticised in his own day. They are not real Christians. For a real Christian knows that they themselves share the same human condition in that we are all sinners saved by God's grace alone. Real Christians should simply point you to Jesus and what him dying on the cross and rising to life again means for you and all of humanity. Real Christians will put your interests above their own need to prove themselves 'right'. Please do not let the actions of these false Christians stop you from seeking God... who earnestly longs to show you his love, kindness, faithfulness, grace and mercy. Oh that the LGBT community may find and seek God... and know the true nature of who he is. For he is more wonderful than you could ever imagine. He has never done us wrong. He has always done right by us. And in him you will find rest. In him you will find everything your heart has truly longed for. In him, you will be whole. Do not listen to the majority of Christians out there. How little they actually know God. Tim Mackie from The Bible Project does a wonderful job at helping you understand the bible on its own terms. I recommend anyone interested in knowing who God really is to start there. The bible is not a moral handbook... and the pathway to knowing who God is... is to lay aside our pre-conceived notion of who God is and who we are. We need to come humbly at the bible with the understanding that our knowledge is very limited and flawed to begin with ... we need to humbly ask God to reveal who he is to us. We need to acknowledge that we do not know everything as we are not God... then can God actually speak to our hearts and transform our dead minds into something new.

God asks all LGBTQ people to prayer for forgiveness from God for the way God made them.

Hey Tony, I was wondering how much exposure you've had to the narrative of Scripture. Scripture explains that humanity as a whole is broken not because of the way God made them but as the affects of severing their relationship with God. Had Adam and Eve trusted God and relied on Him non of the brokenness that each person carries would have taken place. God knows us as we truly are, which means He comprehends how we are confused or how our perspective isn't lining up with reality. LGBTQ people aren't in a worse place than anyone else in the world who is in bondage to sin. We have all experienced confusion about what it means to be human and to love and be loved. Part of knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior is that journey of recognizing the ways that our sinful natures have twisted the good things that God gave us as gifts.

God didn't make them gay. There still is no known genetic link to homosexual tendencies. Also if we look at other cultures we can see the percentage of the population varies quite a bit. Like in Iraq where homosexuality is illegal it is normal for grown men to have sex with young boys. If what your attracted to sexually is innate then it wouldn't make sense that most of their population has this attraction. This shows there is a very cultural component to it. People don't like to talk about it, but there is a large percentage of homosexuals experienced sexual trauma when they were kids. And an even larger percentage were exposed to porn per-puberty. I don't claim that any of these things are the cause of homosexuality. But I will claim that we have zero evidence that it is innate. I have know someone that was straight her entire life then suddenly decided to be a lesbian.

Many thought Jesus was a wolf as well. Preston is presenting an upside down kingdom way of thinking/loving others as Jesus did when He started hanging out with the sinners...the 'sick'. Rather than dehumanizing them he's started a conversation and Preston is likely saving many folks who identify with this community who are being led to repentance because of the kindness of God that Preston exemplifies.

@@mariarempel3825 read your Bible more thoroughly and you will see that Jesus was no friend to sinners more than he was a friend to the religious authority. The sermon on the mount proves that. All are called to repentance, both sinners and religious elites, both must change or nothing, we in the church must change, remember he who lives the world is at enmity with God, take a look at the list of character traits that will not inherit the kingdom of God, there you will see how friendly Jesus is toward sinners. The invitation is living but the call is a call to die to selfish flesh. Jesus might have sat with a lot of people but he called them all the leave darkness and step into the light. He accepted me in my sins but He would not allow me to stay in my sins, Jesus demanded change and still does. Preston is a wolf because he uses a little bit of truth from Gods Word to support a multitude of his lies. Don’t follow a guy like that, Jesus is kind but Jesus will not play with an unrepentant person. We all Are called to flee sin or die because of it.
