This beautiful song brings me back to the the days of the first two albums. Pete Farndon dead, James Honeyman-Scott dead and no hope for a third album. A misery for a such a long time! What a great releaf to hear Back on chaingang in the radio! I was at shoe repair shop when I heard it and at the record shop I rushed in a great hurry! Thank you Chrissie Hynde and Martin Chambers for all these years, I am so gratefull.
She is not under rated.. She got a good amount of fame and success, considering she is different, on her own terms, a true classic rocker, and does not play the media celebrity game. Dont call it a track or product.. This is a song. This is not typical new media promoted garbage.
I honestly don't know what the Great British public listens to at times. This single didn't chart and the album made a desultory No. 29. Yet it's exquisite. I had no idea she had the album out and I stumbled on this track. It had me hooked. It has that classic Pretenders sound (it also sounds a lot like the Tom Finn-produced Packed! ... I know she didn't like that album, but I did), the lyrics are amazing and the tunes are just so easy to get into. People should be made to listen to this.
this brings me back 2 the 80ies - when there was composing, singer songwriting… real Voices.... - what a gift for this year….. thank u - love from Austria
@ And no RU-vid! It's great that you can access all these thousands and thousands of terrific songs, but back in the day you could live for moths at a time listening to The Pretenders,Costello,GO GO's,Clash etc.. and not feel you missed a damn thing!
Yeah, they had to be channeling 'Kid' when they were putting this together. I couldn't be happier. I love hearing Chrissie's still-wonderful voice in the context of a classic Pretenders-style track. What a treat to get a record like this 40 years after the debut album.
I saw the pretenders in the 80s at the Spectrum in Philly. Iggy opened up for them. Chrissy comes out on stage and says before they start she's going to kiss the stage that Iggy played on. She's showing respect. gotta to love that.
Es la única radio donde está sonando esta nueva producción de The Pretenders, así como los Rolling Stones, Killers y otros grandes grupos de los 70´s 80´s 90´s 2miles.
I. Absolutely. Love. This. I will always love this band. Chrissie Hynde is one of my musical idols, and I always will place her on a pedestal in my heart.
This sounds like the early Pretenders, reminds me of Kid. Saw them on the 1980 tour of their first album. Chrissie broke a string on her guitar and comes out with 'why is it I always break my G string'? With a knowing smile. Cool and sexy as you like with out being overt. The band were completely on top of their game. Excellent gig. Think the latest line up are the best one since James and Pete coz they're like a proper band. All of girls allowed couldn't come close to the strength in Chrissie's vocals when they did that cover version.
First time I heard it today. The essence of their sound is there and it could have been released at any time in the last forty years. The song reminds me a little of Back On The Chain Gang too, though I cannot really pinpoint why.
This really sounds like the Pretenders...and it is! Great song and performance from the irrepressible Chrissie and her band. So good to see Martin Chambers back in place too. I will certainly be getting this album.
My god I love these guys ever since I was a kid! The first time I seen chrissie on tv I fell in love with her voice then her face! And the rest is history this music has always makes my day! I even cover a few songs on bass and drums. The pretenders always get me on my drums, I play to the records I still have that are original bought in the late 70’s and on. It was 1980 and I was 3 and spent a lot of time listening to records with my dad. Thank you guys for being a part of my life for 40 years!
When people talk about women in Rock & Roll you hear about Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, and the Wilson Sisters. Chrissie Hynde kind of gets forgotten and she should not. Great song and a great album...🍺🍺🍺
I thought the exact thing when I heard it. Later, I was at home about to do some deeper research on the similarities when, out of the blue, the radio (station that played me the newer song earlier) started playing 'Kid'!
This song is the kid of "Kid". Touching that first 2 album vibe. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. JHS and Pete are looking down and smiling.
The perfect pop song, written with rigor, accompanied by an effective video, made with few resources but with a strong personality ... Chrissie Hynde & Co. are working really well in this historical era marked by tons of productions with a disarming creative paucity. Just great! Bravi!!
chrissie my best ever im so xsited in this amazing song of my great band the pretenders i love this song very much its gone be beutiful album i can feel it in the air ... chrissie thank you and after covid 19 come to visit israel again. love you tzachi.
I have always liked Chrissie and the Pretenders. The last album was not one that I liked very well, but this is good! It feels like some real heart and effort was put into it. Thanks!
Chrissy is always solid gold in her simple cool riffs and cool writing. She sounds exactly the same in concert as she does on the records, clear voice like on the records. She is cool. Activist, for the good causes, environment etc, but never a 3rd waver man hater hag..You notice she always plays in bands with only men. She likes to be around guys.
I adore this but can't share as I am 54 with an 8yo son. He aint dumb, but I sadly can't post stuff that truly reflects reality. Society isn't going well!
