I have court this Friday and ever since my arrest back in March I joined a trade school to pursue a career that I am.good at. I graduate in December and start my paid internship. I just want my name cleared lord 🙏😣
This is sort of a testimony, with a point. I've been incarcerated, a couple times, for small infractions, for a few days, but me not being jail tough, it seemed like big time. But I've never forgotten, the first night they took me to pretrial, and those pretrial attorneys were like angels sent from heaven. They were each time females, but it was how soft spoken they spoke to me, and didn't look frowning on me in judgement, like why did you do this. And the care I felt like they were really trying to get me out of jail, and it just felt good to know someone cared for me like that, and probably because I wasn't caring for myself, like that, and it sure helped me to relax a bit, like all was not lost. I also so much wanted to have a behavior like those pretrial attorneys who seemed to have a sweet spirit, with a level head. Fast forward to present, and to my point, I watch a lot of crime event shows, and I found myself being really hard on the criminals, but when they're arrested, and esp. when they're young, I find some sadness in my heart, for them, not condemnation, for them messing up their life. I was finding it odd how I was so hard, and condemning when they were on the run, but now captured feeling sorrow for them. It just made me think how I may be becoming more like those pretrial attorneys I greatly admired, and that was a good thought. My mama use to always warn me to keep a level head, and though I fully didn't understand what that meant, but I sure do now. Overtime I realize what a hothead I was, flying off the handle, breaking things, but worked on controlling my emotions, esp. anger, and with prayer I do see myself now, as a more level headed person, not perfect, but better. So I just want to thank all the pretrial attorneys, for all the good work they do, and for being apart, of making my life better. Thank you✌🏽
I read every word and like everything you said. I can appreciate it as well . Myself, being over fifty now, have a calmer demeanor in the last fifteen years. I dealt with clinical depression and still do. It never goes away, it just has highs and lows. Stopping drinking sixteen years ago has helped me tremendously. I also do not use drugs , but am on antidepressants for the rest of my life. If I dont take them , I'm not a very _well_ person. I've always been a rebellious personality . These days I'm a lot better than I used to be and one more thing...church is part of my life . Thank you for your beautiful words.

I have my pretrial hearing tomorrow and I'm so nervous. I was physically assaulted (in my car) while driving my 2 "friends" home from a bar. One of them gave me stitches and the other one robbed my cellphone to prevent me from calling the police. They left me bleeding in the middle of the street. Because alcohol was a factor, the DA gave 1 a plea deal for anger management + restitution. Charges dropped. The other 1 denied the plea deal so I hope this case goes to trial.
My lawyer said DO NOT GET INTO A ACCIDENT IN ANOKA COUNTY!!!!!!! I was involved in a very very small accident about a 2-3mph bumper to bumper accident which caused about a 6 inch x 2inch mark on my hood of my small foreign car and I hit a full sized1/2 ton pick up bumper, and the deputy decided to ruin my perfect driving record by giving me a citation : 169.14.1 and now I have a pretrial coming up next Tuesday and I'm scared out of my mind... here I am a 55 yo guy feeling like a little baby... All because of one officer that decided to ruin my day. My best friend is a Minneapolis police sergeant and he said that this charge for what happened was complete BS, and his co workers all said the same thing... So if this is a "thing" for just Anoka county, then who conducts oversight of law enforcement officers / deputies? Or maybe the legislature needs to re-define the statute? Due care is BS, because I was attentive and not under the influence of any drug. I just don't understand why something so small can be blown up out of proportion for something so minor. I mean it's not like it was deliberate or intentional... I'm a pediatric nurse for Pete sake... I take care of people for a living... I just don't understand it...
PWID about 382 grams first offense. Wish me luck. In college with no criminal history. The first person in my family to go to college. My entire family has a big criminal history. I have gone down the wrong path. I just pray mercy is shown on me so I can be the one to break the chain and go to college and have a happy life and not live in despair like my family does. I just went to pretrial today for criminal mischief in the 1st degree which is a class c felony in oregon. it's my first offense as an adult. my juvenile record was sealed when I turned 18. I'm 21 now.
How does a person get a criminal investigation against a government ministry who employs unscrupulous persons to maliciously intimidate vulnerable families for the purpose of perpetrate wrongful apprehensions of small children, as a means to turn a corporate profit? Or, infringing on human right issues where citizens are treated like slaves/criminals while the children are kidnapped & then auctioned off within the court system as a commodity. Okay so I need help my pretrial is tomorrow I got into a car accident and ran into a stone mailbox about a year ago in January the officer that came by said I didn't have insurance on the truck I crashed and he gave me a citation for not having insurance he said all I had to do was get proof of insurance it take it down to the courthouse I have the proof of insurance and I will take it to the courthouse every two weeks and every time I went the lady at the courthouse would tell me that the citation was not in the system I continued going every 2 weeks for 3 to 4 months until covid-19 hit us then I couldn't go anymore because of covid-19 fast forward six months later it's some Timber I get a letter in my mail saying that I need to pay a fine for a ticket and when I went to the courthouse it was for the same thing that I didn't have the insurance so they told me I could plead guilty or I could take the case to a trial by judge or by jury I said a trial by jury and my pre-hearing is tomorrow I have the evidence of having Insurance before I crashed and I have the evidence of all the times I went to the courthouse and the front desk lady signed and dated when I would visit the courthouse and that my citation was not in the system so what should I do?
I'm ignorant of the process. If the prosecutor felt that the evidence was weak and that charges ought to be dropped, would they ever offer a plea deal anyway as a bluff and just hope that the defendant/his attorney doesn't recognize the situation and takes the plea? Or would charges typically be dropped before reaching this point?
I've seen weak cases where a prosecutor still took it to trial and lost. The real kicker is that the defendant had to spend over $15K for the trial. It's a sh(1)t system if you do not have the money to defend yourself (hire a decent lawyer). A lot of innocent people with take a plea bargain because 1). they cannot afford to go to trial 2) get a public defender (can't afford a lawyer) who is overworked and doesn't have adequate time to devote to the case; therefore, the defendant doesn't want to risk facing maximum sentencing at trial.
jayme lee I may be going through something like this. Because as of now the police has only shown me pictures of me in the restaurant during the time they claim a lap top was stolen. These pictures they have shown me do not prove anything but the fact I was in the restaurant during the time the crime happened but so were 30 to 40 other people were in that restaurant during at that time as well. My first day in court is tomorrow and I will see if the prosecutor has any other evidence but at this point I am willing to take this to trial
Currently facing a charge I didn't do assault with bodily injury I got arrested for lsd spent a month in jail and the day I was supposed to get out hit with assault that my ex did and spent another month in jail and she didn't even get charged nor does she plan on getting involved. @@ChristisLord553 they dropped it down to disorderly conduct bc the cop lied when he went to interview the guy I "assaulted" and basically told him to write a false statement. They said I followed him to his house and while he was in the car I punched him through the window and when he got out the car kicked him in the back smh I did threaten the dude bc my drunk ex who was driving convinced me they almost ran us off the road I was drunk too but she lied alot then got out the car and slapped dude but I was just back up just in case they tried to hit back but I was under the impression they intentionally tried to run us off the road

I have an ongoing employment retaliation litigation. My attorney missed the discovery deadline (said it was an honest mistake because they were waiting for the judge's decision whether the case had merit) and we dont have expert assessment of damages. What can be done at this point? We are waiting for summary judgement and the trial is set for after a month if we win the summary judgement. The attorney, although continuing to represent, seem to not have much hope, but i still have strong hope because there are tons of solid evidence for everything including employer knowledge, temporal proximity, causation, and motive, despite the discovery. Question. Can a lawyer stipulate to facts not readily proved? Like of someone charged with accessory before the fact to murder, goes to trial by himself without the murder being proved and without the principal also present at trial because the principal was unable to be tried at the time because he was being evaluated to see if he was incompetent to stand trial so there was no conviction of the actual murder at the time the other guy went to trial for the accessory before the fact to murder charge. Was lawyer highly ineffective for stipulating to murder just so the State was now able to go forward with the trial against the one charged with the accessory before the fact to murder charge? This is a question no one seems to have the answer to. Thank you!
In regards to a Pro Se, what happens after a motion to vacate judgement and sentence because of ineffective counsel was granted, and a "hearing" is scheduled within 2 weeks? What should the Pro Se bring and/or could the Pro Se challenge the court jurisdiction via disclosure before the hearing?
The officer who arrested me claimed his car did not have a camera when i asked if there was any video evidence of the stop at the evidentiary hearing. There were also 2 other cars on the scene by the time i was asked, then told to get out of my car so they could search it or i would be tazed, without giving a rereason. Didn't specifically ask if they had recorded anything. I suspect he lied, but idk how to find out if his car did have a camera, the day i was arrested i wasn't thinking about it.
I got out on a signature bond for domestic violence 3rd degree and the person at the front desk told me if I don’t plan on going to court to pay $1,000 ahead of time before the court date so I do that will they dismiss the case and this is my first time going to jail
I go to pre trial in a few days for a domestic violence; assault and criminal mischief, the prime witness and only witness doesn't want to show up, what are the chances of the case fitting dropped
Oh, man! Mid Michigan has some kooky kangaroo courts. I have zero faith in the courts, cops, prosecutors and the government in general. However, keep up the work. Everybody hates a lawyer, until they need one.
leventy11 I hope someday your impression changes. The law is a human process and therefore will never be perfect, even if we strive to make it the best we can. There are certainly miscarriages of justice on both sides. But there are also many instances where the system works the way it is supposed to. There are good and bad apples in every profession. We absolutely need some changes and perhaps you could find a way to advocate for change in your local community. You may feel like your voice may not be heard, but change can be brought about by momentum. Best wishes to you except when the Gophers are playing the Wolverines or Spartans :)

Only if the case settles or is dismissed. You can usually expect the prosecution to make an offer at the pretrial. Some defendants accept the offer, if that happens the case settles. If you are wrongfully accused or if the offer is too harsh, then you are not likely to accept the offer and your case will not be done. Every case is unique and whether the case ends at the pretrial depends on what the defendant wants, what the prosecutor offers, and often times whether discovery is complete. There are strategic considerations as well, such as mitigation.
I still cannot find a video on how many pre-trials you can possibly have until the actual trial I’ve been going through domestic violence my fiancé is already revised her statement not a single scratch on her I feel like the courts are just jerking me around and making this go longer than it needs to go they’ve gotten all the police reports they’ve gotten all the evidence and Wednesday will be my fourth pre-trial this allegedly happened back in October 6 and we’re in March now
What happens if a defendant's pre-trial keeps getting delayed or postponed? And if it's already happened for several months now what happens next? I feel the judge should see that this might be a tactic of the defendant whether it be a lack of attorney or the defendant not showing up for pre-trial services.
There are many possible reasons for a pretrial hearing to be continued multiple times. Among the potential reasons are ongoing discovery or investigations, evidence issues, witness availability issues, assessment delay or issues, lawyer or judge scheduling conflicts, or mutual agreement between prosecution and defense.
I completed a diversion program 3 years ago..theres a local newspaper ( busted mugshots) that said for a one time fee (like $700!!) They'd remove my arrest. In fairness the guy was nice. But my question is this...if I pay a one time fee and have it removed from their main site...dude they've got a TON of other affiliated sites with just slightly different names..that are all DIFFERENT from the main page..to remove it from each individual site is $700 ?! How is this not extortion?! ( In MN)
