I fondly remember this historical piece of relaxing synchronized and auditorium music as if it was yesterday but only 8 years ago!! I worked on the golf course and it was my first ever job and when this came on my Pandora station co-joined with Desmeon radio, I never replaced this memory. One of the best memories ever. Thank you Pretty Lights.
I love how Leo Nocentelli’s guitar riff from Cyril Neville’s Gossip is now permanently lodged into the buildup in this song (circa 2023-2024). I had to come back here to make sure it wasn’t always there.

WHOA. Knew I recognized the intro to this song, been searching for it for 2 years and finally found it. Insomniac Olympics by Blockhead! Obviously PL cranked that shit up and made it a fantastic song, but that intro tune is straight-up sampled. 2 geniuses of electronica, PL the torchbearer of course! *switches from High School Art Class to Insomniac Olympics and back again*
Two years later, I'm listening to some Pandora and Insomniac Olympics came on, and I'm like "yo this dude totally took this from HSAC! Then I realized they both just sampled from the same song.
YOO Good ear, but these artists, Blockhead and Pretty Lights are both hip hop producers. They both sampled the same song but it is actually a track called "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me", by Karla Bonoff. Hip Hop producers are known for taking the beginning of old records, also called breaks, especially from the 70s, and then putting their own twist on it. Even though Blockhead used the sample first in 2004, Pretty Lights stilled crushed it with his sampling in 2010. This whole album is a Masterpiece, my personal favorite is A Million Tomorrows for One Yesterday very close to this, basically a tie ,because I can identify with both on a spiritual level.
The live shows were really where it was at, especially during a time with such heavy dubstep, PL always set himself apart from everyone else at the time, the only big time Dubstep artist at the time that was on the same level but doing something completely different at his shows was Lorin Ashton aka Bassnectar, really messed up what he was doing behind the scenes though. Bassnectar always preached safety and watching out for others but was doing really messed up stuff. I was really angry when I heard about it. Between PL and Bassnectar I saw more shows of them than any other. Big Gigantic was close, same with Griz.
