Pretty Yende performs Il dolce suono from Gaetano Donizetti's tragic opera Lucia di Lammermoor. Taken from her new album "Dreams".

Dreams can take various shapes. From love and longing in Juliette’s “Je veux vivre dans ce rêve” to delusions and desperation in Lucia’s mad scene. Through the eyes of young opera heroines Pretty Yende slips into their world of dreams with arias of the bel canto and romantic repertoire. With Dreams Pretty Yende also refers to her very own fairytale that continues to this day. From a girl in a remote town in South Africa she turned into one of the world’s most sought-after sopranos living her dream on the world’s opera stages.

such beautiful quality of voice, pretty is quickly becoming the primary coloratura prima donna of the 21st century, it has been a very long time since we had heard such a clear voice and a free and riveting upper register, she takes me back to sutherland and gruberova

an andy I do agree you. Her voice has the potential to be the biggest powerhouse out there. However, to discount Inva Mula Tchako is both negligent and maddening.

She's certainly not in Sutherland's league. Just listen to how the ends of phrases fail to sit evenly on the breath. Yes, it it a beautiful voice in terms of tone but the technique is still not up to superstar standard.

@@dougbarker3019 I agree. The voice is beautiful, but I wish it was more connected to her support. If you want to hear someone with the colour and technique (close) of Sutherland, listen to June Anderson. I don't know why she always did better in Europe than in America. She is an amazing singer.

As a lover of classical music, I am overjoyed that new audiences are finding voices like this through other mediums and suddenly wondering why they had never bothered. This is what art is about and we must never forget the composers of past centuries, were also the rock stars of their time. I found Pretty whom I adore, then discovered her sister not so long ago. This is one talented family.

One of my favorite opera pieces and she did a beautiful job of it. Heard probably 35-40 renditions of it and this is probably top 3 in my opinion. Lucia de Lammermoor is a beautiful but tragic story and she does it justice in my humble opinion.
