I’ve taken to doing lighter static stretching after dynamic stretching before running. That way, my muscles are somewhat warmed up for the static stretching. Then I walk for a quarter mile with a gradually increasing walk pace leading into my run. I do some brief static stretching after my run, listening to my body as to how much and what I focus on. This recipe seems to work for me.
I had plantar fasciitis because I ran uphill. It is healing with stretching the calf muscles. Slowly. I take some time off to let it heal. I started running 2 months ago and I am 68, I did my first 5K in 35 minutes.
Plantar Fasciitis is nasty and I suffered with it for several months. Like you, stretching my calf muscles cured me. I also went to a podiatrist and discovered I had high arches. The dr prescribed custom orthotic shoe inserts for support. I've been fine since. I hope you get all healed soon! Congrats on your 5K!
Same age and also starting running with first 5K same time and second a few minutes faster. Got a calf strain from running barefoot on the beach, something I have never gotten despite doing plenty of hard hikes. Maybe I will need to start stretches!

I have been increasing milage on my long run. Ten miles is my current limit before my legs really tire out. I've been following a low carb, intermittent fast style diet for the past year. Can you do a video with your thoughts on diet for distance running ? I'm 64 years old btw.
Thanks, Mike, for commenting. I know that a few of my viewers do keto, carnivore, or low carb. I've done low carb, but it was before i started running. Changing the body to use fat/ketones for running fuel rather than carbs/glycogen can be done, but I have no experience in doing it. Perhaps it's something I'll research.
