Being a Scottish petrolhead, Colin McRae was my childhood hero and his Subaru was THE car on my bedroom wall. I now own a 1997 Impreza WRX. Childhood dream come true

McRae was my childhood hero aswell, have some old rally photos from the late 1990’s of him flying through a stage, forgot where though. I’m soon to be buying a 2000 Impreza, not a WRX because I can’t afford the insurance, cheers Irish Government. But I believe that was the last year for the GC bodystyle.

Same! Watched Colin hooning a Legacy RS turbo on TV with my dad in the early 90's, watched him win the WRC in 95, idolised my dad for buying the turbo2000 estate version in 96. Now I own a 00 turbo2000 saloon and I bloody love it!

My dad owned a 1993 Subaru Impreza Wagon, and that combined with this car is what got me into cars. I now own the 1993 Impreza Wagon.

I never met Colin but met Burnsie. He was an absolutely lovely guy, it was before the final stage of the 99 Network q. He had pulled up just before the stage. Had a picture, autograph with him and Robert Reid. Juha kankkunen pulled up behind him but was a miserable sod

I met Richard when he was doing the Peugeot challenge, must of been 91/92. A mate, Jason Murphy co-drove with him a couple of times so obviously I tagged along in my 205 GTi company car 😂 Richard was a pleasant and very shy lad but also very likeable.

Don't worry, those kind of kids doesn't know much about cars. That is until they get older which then they've started to learn more about cars especially cars with less horsepower that perform well . 😉

got a 2001 2.5rs coupe this year as my first car. cuz of the internet we've grown up learning all about these cool cars, now that they're becoming hard to find when we can actually buy them, that only makes them all the more cool. I think you'll be surprised by some of the rugrats you see driving around in these old sick cars. they dont make em like they used to

Well... I dunno, the first three Fast n Furious films kind of kick started back into life the tuner scene, and opened up everyone's eyes to the drift potential of a late 80's early 90's banger that had done it's lot as a daily. Maybe not new car sales, but definitely kept the second hand market going for awhile longer.

@@RatelHBadger The thing is, that the WRC effort was initiated by Subaru themselves, whereas F&F was rather Hollywood and car culture doing their thing. I'm not saying that F&F didn't influence how we view the cars that starred in those movies, but the manufacturers didn't specifically build those for the movies. If we still had a racing series that used cars that were largely based on their road-legal counterparts AND fairly affordable for a car enthusiast, we would probably have some incredible cars that would sell like hot cakes, if successful on the track.

We had a big scene in Vienna, yes the F&F movie gave it a slight reboot as it was dying end 90s but ricers, no, that was not the case.

Me and brother always did the Sunday stages but that yr we knew Colin had a huge chance to win on home soil so we decided to follow the whole rally and do as many stages as possible..we've never done it since as after he'd won I don't think he could've topped his first world title especially on home turf..I think we were the stage before you in Chester and the atmosphere was truly Incredible we had Scottish Pipers blasting out pushing him on add thousands others waving banners,air horns,fireworks etc.them times will never leave me and I can say I was there in 95 to watch history being made like u can.. truly magical event that yr God rest his soul he'll never be forgotten.

I saw Collin McRae race Carlos S in the super special stage Langley Park Perth Australia back in 98.I was deeply hooked on C McRae rally on ps1 at the time, I heard on the radio that very night they were starting the SS langley park so I called the Sheraton hotel for tickets, the lady said come on down I’ll leave you some behind the reception (FREE)😲 I was over the moon an ina rush to get a cab to the event. Just as I arrived at the front of the crowd Collin and Carlos went for it😁 Collin won by less than a car length... never forget that day. Thanks Collin, you’re still the best👊🥇🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Its hard to not get romantic about racing, and it's easy see why. Colin Mcrae defined an entire era of motorsport. You can see it in Chris' face here, all those great memories coming alive in his mind. Its a beautiful machine, and a great way to commemorate such a legendary figure of rally.

Most people Given the chance to drive such a historic car: slowly drives it around a parking lot. Chris Harris: drives it full speed, exhaust back firing flames, between huge trees at full speed. You know Collin was probably rousted from the grave cheering to Chris to “go faster!”

Was out in ‘95, Sunday and then 2 stages Monday including Hamsterly, was then in hospital for an operation on the Tuesday, came round in the recovery room and the nurse asked if I had any questions, I don’t think she expected ‘Is Colin still leading the rally?’........ fortunately the hospital radio had good sports news.
