Peter foreshadows some of the projects he has planned for the next year and explains how we will be going modern for our summer trip canoeing the Yukon river from Whitehorse to Dawson City. However, each episode will still include wee bits of the amazing history of the many places we will visit in our travels.
Also, in this episode, Robert Wiggins presents Peter with the finished scrimshawed powder horn, Bob Miller visits and plays and sings 17'th century songs. We are also joined by two other amazing singer/songwriters, Meghan Balogh and Eric Uren. You can see them live at The Cove Inn, in Westport, Ontario, where they perform every Tuesday from May to September and every Sunday in the Fall, Winter and Spring.
If you are enjoying our videos, please continue to like each week's episode and subscribe to our channel and hit the notification bell - this helps us continue to bring you unique content and a wee bit of history every week.

Very much enjoyed this presentation and looking forward to watching your next endeavors. "Caledonia, you're all I've ever known." Funny how a song can bring up feelings and understanding for the love of a country or a place. Where I live is all I've ever known and wanted. I've visited cities. I could never live happily there nor in the suburbs that surround them. I've watched my siblings and my children leave this place. But I have counted myself lucky and blessed that I have stayed. I once told my son, "I'm just an old flint rock and belong here, along with my parents, grandparents, and their parent's parents. I've taken in too much oak tannin from the water I drank and the food, four footed and vegetable, that I've eaten and taken from this thin rocky soil. And there's the soul comfort I get from the arms of the welcoming enfolding hills when I arrive after being away.

@@TheWoodlandEscapeautumn is my favorite time of the year with the russets, yellows, and scarlets. But they fall every year and were it not for them there would not be any soil at all on the hill tops. I count myself among the leaves. I worked for a fellow who came here from Ohio. He built ponds where folks said they would never hold water and he rolled out hay bales year after year for his cattle over rocks where folks said there could never be pasture. Folks were wrong on both counts for the ponds held and with the rotted trampled hay and manure he built soil. He said, " I'm the first generation. I'm the soil builder." There weren't very many people at his funeral but I always admired him. Despite his peculiarity there are worse things to be than a soil builder. As for me, some day I'll go down with the leaves. But that's a long time away for me and you, Peter. We have sunrises and sunsets yet to see as this old world turns and tilts.

The power of videography combined with the haunting sound of an fiddle playing an Irish tune outdoors is almost to much in one setting for this ole mountain man .. especially seeing that absolutely beautiful powder horn.. well, another great one.. Onward and Upward is the Watchword ..

Bonjours cher Monsieur , these few lines came to me as I was listening to the song being played and sang by the three wonderful musicians , coupled with scenes of you working around your home . It brought about a feeling of Déja Vue , something familiar from a past life perhaps ? Thank you again for sharing your experiences 🙏 . Be well always . So

Looks like you got lots on your plate Peter. The fort build is very ambitious, maybe you can get some help from neighbors;) Nice shot of the moose, we've had one around our place lately, haven't layed eyes on it but lots of tracks & scat. Found an elk skull on conservation land across the road earlier this spring. Cheers too you & Cathy

I absolutely love Bob Miller’s arrangement and performance of Spanish Ladies. I spent the day reverse engineering his tuning and guitar work, and am thrilled that I can now play it passably. It looks like its hard to reach him online, so please let him know how wonderful his performance made me feel. Beautiful.

what tuning did you come up with, if you remember?
@dczward
@dczward 5 месяцев назад
@@kren1101 It is C-G-C-G-C-D , then add capo 2nd fret. They Key is then D. There's probably a name for the tuning, and it is known to others, but it was new to me. It's interesting because it is almost a standard "open" tuning, with 1st-5th-1st-5th-1st, but then it has that 2nd at the top. it adds a rich mix. It also makes doing the 1st & 3rd harmony/interval thing over a 3 octave spread easy to fret. Someone who knows more about this sort of thing could probably deliver a lecture and proper terms to what I stumbled upon. Anyway, its a fun tuning, useful for a lot of things.

Thanks for another great video. Always love the scenery and live music. The powder horn is really turning out nice. I really like the scrimshaw old time map. The Yukon river canoe trip sounds like quite the fun adventure. My wife and I are hoping to make a trip or two into the Yukon (from Fairbanks AK) this summer. Who knows, maybe we'll cross paths with you out there.

They tended to be much better under the French than the English. French tended to integrate with the natives and were not nearly as hungry for land. That changed after the F&I wars. Glad you’re enjoying.
