Tom needs to take a game theory course. This is effectively how settlement deals are made and why the vast majority of cases never go to trial. Sometimes you’re willing to just settle even if you think you’ll win because it’s not worth the risk of losing.
No mention of Boston College vs Michigan State? Aiden Chiles playing under the lights in the Red Bandana game against a team that lost by 6 to a top 10 team last week. I think that could end up being one of the most entertaining games of the week to watch.
If the payout by Florida St is doable, moving forward, if Clemson, NC, Miami, etc. walk away, the others will face a far more greater reduction, than simply giving away some of their current cut?! If I have understood this properly
Tenn vs Oklahoma….such an important game for playoff implications, loser is in trouble, but with Sooners at home it feels most important for their resume. Okie is suss at the QB position….but not sure if we know what Tenn defense can be what we have seen so far against better team. But Arnold is not scary, and the fact that Houston scared em…give me Vols
Tennessee hasn't really had to show a lot outside of base looks on offense and defense and I promise you Heuple has something cooked up off those vanilla looks
Tom, in 2035 they are gone and then schools like BC, Wake, and syracuse lose that 44 million and go to a conference where they make 15million. This is a way they save the conference.
The same people mad they’re talking about fsu’s legal situation would sit there and pretend to be interested in a random MAC breakdown for 10 minutes. some ppl care, some don’t shove it
@@brandont2414when actual realignment happens sure. Like when the PAC-12 added 4 schools, and this pod said “who cares”. But an anonymous rumor about a lawsuit and this pod speculates for 20 minutes. Do you think people really enjoyed that 20 minutes?
My disappointment was that legal negotiations and trial success is an area of expertise that Tom simply doesn’t have. I get where he is coming from on how do they have the leverage but that may not be how the lawyers in the room see it and they are telling their clients their prognostications of possible outcomes. If there is a 5% chance of something happening then it is a nonzero chance of it happening. This means the lawyer has to advise the client on those options and set them on a path that will have the least bad outcome. A lawyer is always going to try to mitigate risk where they can and I think that is the calculation behind why those other schools may be considering that because the worst case scenario risk is that you end up an American school which could be seriously detrimental to that program. I don’t really feel Tom is allowing himself to calculate based on a multitude of factors and possible outcomes. And when you have judges and people making decisions these can be unpredictable outcomes.
Chip when PAC-12 expands: “We don’t need to talk about expansion, it’s boring and there’s nothing there.” Chip when there’s a rumor leaked by anon source about Florida State: “let’s spend 20 minutes speculating.” Seems pretty clear to me this pod doesn’t give a shit about the G5, and definitely doesn’t care about OSU/WSU.
I really try to like Tom, but he is such a know it all sometimes. All FSU ever wanted was equal TV revenue. You know, like Illinois and Rutgers get simply for being in the right place at the right time. Chip was uncomfortable
Equal with who, the SEC? ACC splits the money evenly to all schools each getting 40-45mil. FSU, Clem, UNC, and Miami want uneven distribution based on TV ratings so they can stay competitive with SEC/Big10 schools when their new TV contracts start. Big10 will be at 80-100mil per school same for SEC. That is whole lotta unevenness to stay close to those numbers
BTW this dates back to FSU being a WOMENS college without football until the 40s and in which case they have been denied SEC admittance repeatedly since the 60s. That is 50 years of Big Ten history before FSU returned in ‘47. FSU wants a seat at the table, they simply have never been invited. Tough noodles
Took the words right out of my mouth. I love this show but its hard not to think about how much bigger it could be if Tom was removed/replaced. He rarely is likable
@@Ryan-ih4bb FSU has value because they outdraw all other schools in the ACC and most schools nationally, by a wide margin. FSU is always in the top 15 viewership nationally whether good or bad. Last week FSU pulled 1.6 vs Memphis beating UT, OU, Mich. Both week 0 and 1 games vs BC and GTech were over 4mil each, more than Penn St, Ohio St, Mich, Bama, UT. Only lower than the 4 giant games USC/LSU, A&M/ND, Miami/UF, and Georgia/Clemson. Now those 2 are inflated some because the games were the only ones on the schedule but overly. Last year through 3 weeks FSU had 19.5mil viewers.
Someone explain to me if these two leave why the ACC would die when a mediocre half g5 big 12 exists with zero name brand value. The ACC wouldn’t die it’s a stupid take.
People are mad at Tom because he’s questioning the nole boys and FSU? Half this show is spent discussing FSU which right now is a bad football team. It’s hilarious Bud and Danny act like FSU is just far too good to be in the ACC when you can’t even beat BC and Memphis? Even in your down years those should be wins. I’m rooting for it to happen so FSU can live in the 6-6 to 9-3 range forever and see them meltdown. As Bud says “take the check take the losses”. That applies to FSU as well if they go to the SEC or B10.
Nah. FSU would have the resources to compete with anybody if that happens. It all depends on the staff if they capitalize on it (like any blue blood in a good recruiting state) you could have a mark richt program or a Kirby program. Dan Mullen program, urban Meyer program, or a Billy Napier program. The schools with resources which fsu is in that category.. will continue to cycle through until they find their saban, Kirby, jimbo, dabo etc. the schools without a real chance will keep a solid coach for a lifetime like NC state, Ok state, and Kentucky. FSU might suck right now but if it keeps up we’ll keep on firing coaches till we get lucky. Long story short you can’t just say “fsu will suck in the sec” ..some years Florida sucks in the sec but the program could blow up like UGA at any time just need good leadership and luck
Tom needs to stick to the actual game of football and leave these technicalities to brighter minds (like Bud, obviously). Exclaiming your own ignorance with ferocity and intensity on a subject matter doesn't indicate you as knowledgeable on the topic.
Very bizarre. It’s like he’s purposefully sticking his head in the sand because he doesn’t like what is going on. It’s not that hard to understand. I don’t really like it either, but that doesn’t mean I’m just going to stay ignorant to reality.
FSU has been the big dog of their crap conference for decades, taking 5+ easy wins a year to help keep up their image, and now that they've sucked the conference dry, they want to leave them to die. Yeah, if im anyone other than Clemson and UNC im chancing it.
