Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, “Prey” is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

As a fan of the Predator films and as a fan of the director, I’m actually disappointed this is getting a Hulu release because I would pay to see this in a theatre. This actually looks and feels like a Predator film.

Apparently this is how 20th Century is going to continue operation. The head of the studio said that Disney is limiting them to only three theatrical films a year. In order to not have to cut down on productions and not just lay a bunch of people off, their workaround is that most of their films will now go to streaming directly :( But man, I wish this had been one of the theatrical releases. This is actually a shame but at the same time awesome. It's awesome because it looks like it's going back to the survival horror roots of the first film. But it is a shame that it's not getting a full theatrical release. But I also get why that is because the last predator movie did not well critically nor theatrically. So I see this film as a reset for the franchise and taking it this far back in time was a smart move.

Sometimes some people just want to find a reason to hate it. If it truly didn't make sense in multitude of ways. You would back it up by wrting down the issues. It would be neat if this does well on streaming to put it out in theaters for at least a limited run. Sure theres plenty of couch potatoes who wouldnt DARE pay to see it in a theater, but plenty of us cinephiles who appreciate movies the way they are meant to be seen would probably happily pay. If not, might be a cool idea to rent a theater and screen it for some friends. Again, if it's actually good.

The premise of this movie is silly within the greater canon of the Predator universe. The premise of the original Predator was pitting two peak warriors against each other- one from Earth and one from space. This Indian girl doesn't even come close to Arnold in capability (but is somehow surviving), and therefore the premise of Prey is inconsistent with the original.

@@BFNH459 I think the idea is each film would depict one of the very few people to actually best, or at least impress, the Predator. They could make sure that it's kept clear that 99% of the time the warrior loses, and this is the incredibly rare exception. Also keep in mind: he beat the Predator when he changed tactics entirely and turned the hunt around using more primitive tactics. The idea of it being less about technology and more about tactics could be very fun to explore.

This film was beautiful beyond words. As a long-time fan of the Predator, this for me was the very best Predator movie. The only, and I sincerely mean the only, issue I had with this movie was that they all spoke perfect English. For it being set in 1719, the Comanche would have no concept of what the English language is. Other than that, it was a flawless film that absolutely deserved a theater and DVD release.

My complaint is why do the characters speak like 2020s people instead of a tribe from the early 1700s? It's weird. Not even the English it's more of how they speak, inflections etc. It's off putting.

@@daclak1247 the film is called "Prey" she will be hunted. probably be outclassed, outmatched, and on the backfoot for most of the film. to get that horror aspect and tension going. then probably have the hero overcome the threat in an interesting way, using character traits that were set up in the film. she says she is 'a survivor' perhaps that's what keeps her alive, where the other warriors in the tribe could not.

It's disappointing how they reduced the special features on physical disc. Like 12 or 15 years ago you would get literally 5 hours of bonus features. Now you would just get 15 minutes or just commentary or nothing but the film.

There are 2 predator fan films where 1 fights against a bunch of dudes during medieval times and another where 1 shows up during the Vietnam War and in the predator comic books several of them show up during World War 1 to claim trophies. There is also another where a predator is chasing after and hunting the brother of Dutch from the first movie and it ends with a massive battle between the US Army, the NYPD, a group of heavily armed gang members vs a mini army of predators. As long as they get good writers and a good director they should seriously consider making movies where the predators show up during different time periods to cement the concept that they have been coming to Earth for hundreds and thousands of years to hunt.

@@Ash_Rein maybe they do have more advanced tech but they think so little of us or recognize the how primitive we are. That they see no sport in killing us with such advanced weaponry. Maybe it's only after dutch killing the hunter in the 80's they now started uping the tech on us. Seeing us as more formidable prey. But as in The Predator some felt that weaponry alone wasn't enough that splicing dna traits were more advantageous than anything.

I felt like The Predator started okay, but it quickly went down hill. By the end I was only watching to see how much stupider it got. The fact it's releasing on Hulu has my expectations pretty low for this one.

As an Indigenous person Im skeptical, and I really hope the writing is good, and not cliche, stereotypical, or dumb. As a fan of the Predator franchise I'm really excited. This is either going to be great, or a dud. Since this isnt a theatrical release they should have shot the whole movie in their language with English subtitles.

Its still hard to beat what Danny Glover did. He chased Predator across a city in dress shoes and a six shooter. The original is a classic, but Danny Glover wasnt a special forces commando with knowledge and explosives. He was just a normal guy that just got fed up with an alien.

I appreciate the focus on Native cultures, however the "little sister takes on Predator" angle is a little too saccharine for me. They'd have to nerf the Predator beyond belief in order for a small girl to take it on honorably. People keep citing Arnold fighting it with sticks and bombs but forget he went mano-a-mano with the Predator in a punching grudge match.(and lost)

Arnold literally killed the predator by throwing dirt on his body and a log trap, plus he didn’t even know the layout of the land. Most likely Native Americans survived and hunted on this land for centuries with traps and camouflage. This is a very interesting movie

Okay I'm actually intrigued now. This looks very promising! Hopeful this restores my faith in one of my beloved franchises that they've butchered after the first two. This has so much potential to open the door for us actually getting more lore and background with the Predators as we see them hunt in different time periods. Talking about medieval, Egypt, Rome, Greece, vikings, Aztec, Mayan etc. So many possibilities if this one does good and sets the blueprint.
