I enjoy female lead badass characters, like in Alien Vs Predator, & Freddy Vs Jason. My only question is if the Comanche allowed female warriors, or is this 21st century American society forcing current cultural norms on the Comanche 250 years ago. If Comanche allowed female warriors, then cool. If Comanche culture forbid female warriors, they the forcing current societal norms on a culture from 250 years ago ruins this movie for me.
Producer Jhane Myers, herself of Comanche and Blackfoot lineage, served as a historical advisor on Prey's portrayal of the Comanche nation. When it came to traditional gender roles in the culture of the Comanche, men were hunters, warriors, and served in other physical roles, with women serving as caregivers looking over homes and children. Prey takes this element of history and makes it central to its story. THIS IS FROM SCREEN RANT. It looks like there were some Native American women that did some hunting and would fight in wars but it looks like they would do this rarely and they would not be permanently warriors after the war.
