Sorry to be off topic but does anybody know a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
As a used car at $25k, you still have to budget $3-5k per year for tires and maintenance. Remember, this car was $220k brand new so it has to be maintained as such. I have an '09 and it's key to maintain it at a MB dealership and keep up with repairs to have an enjoyable car. Also, flush the ABC fluid system regularly or you will be replacing these expensive components (google it!).
I completely agree with you on the driving experience that you get from a special car and that sometimes that experience costs some money. That Mercedes S65 had a way of making an ordinary drive to the store much more exciting. It had a way of making a traffic ladened highway relaxing and peaceful and of course I got goosebumps with every cold start. Thanks man for watching and for making that comment!
5k a year for maintenance of a V12 car seems pretty reasonable to me. I was expecting 10k+ tbh, so I guess owning one of these wasn't as expensive as I thought.
I own a 2012 pearl white s65 amg renntech v12 biturbo...I LOVE THIS CAR. ..beautiful, comfortable, fast,fast,fastttt...maintenance??..well its Mercedes S65 once u push start engine button u are in heaven 😉😉😉
I have a "regular" 2007 C216 CL600, non AMG trim (M275 engine). I bought it 6 yars ago for around 18 k€, but I knew where I was going, since I knew the owner, and therefore, the car. Had the whole maintenance record. Once I bought it, the first year was indeed quite bumpy, but mostly because the dealership didn't do proper maintenance. First week : all the coolant spilled on the road because of a cracked heater valve. Part cost 40 €, labor 70 €, plus coolant. Then, I still had a main coolant leak : main radiator, 600 € parts + labor. A few months after that : gearbox wouldn't shift properly, flushed the transmission, got better for a while, then died. Had to replace the solenoid plate + connector, at a dealership, for around 1100 € : no sign of transmission oil change in the history (it had 150 000 km at the time), so that may be the reason. But the worst was yet to come, a well known failure point : the coil packs. When we bought the car, it as 147 000 km, but I couldn't see a spark plug change on the history. I should have changed them right after getting the car, but my loss. Worn spark plugs strained the right coil pack rail, and took the HV transformer with it. 1300 € for the coil pack (instead of the 1850 € quoted), 635 € for the high voltage transformer, and 24 new spark plugs, 24 silicone boots, plus labor (and a new serpentine belt). Oh, also, cracked front right wheel, for three years. Lucky for my, I could have it repaired, and balanced nicely. What saves me is that I have a very good independant mechanic who knows these cars very well and works as well, or maybe better, than my local MB dealer, and at a fraction of a cost. Also, many parts can be found online (not the coil packs / HV transformer though) for cheap as well. It's been three years now, and I haven't done anything super expensive since. It runs well, I enjoy it, and plan to keep it (it isn't worth much anyway). 517 bhp / 850 Nm is plenty for me, it sounds great but not too obnoxious. Maintenance is indeed expensive, but when I see the cost of regular service at VW, Renault or Peugeot dealerships (here in France), I consider myself lucky with a TT V12. But you do have to know what you're getting into. My car is a weekend toy, not a daily, so there's that.
Funny you said that because it's exactly how I felt my entire ownership time with this Mercedes. I felt like I was just waiting for something super expensive to break.
Kingsukram Wow sorry to hear that bro what were the issues u were having? I own a 2006 Lexus LS430 so far so good just regular maintenance drives brand new every time I drive her that’s why never getting rid of her she is a keeper 😎
Got a 2003 CL55 with supercharger which I got recently. Was looking at e55, ended up with CL. I do my own work even major jobs. If I had to pay a shop for everything I wouldn't be able to afford my 300zx twinturbo and an AMG car.
My basic takeaway, which I already knew and practice, is to have your Benz checked-out by an MB dealer or certified mechanic before you buy it.. The biggest expense was the brakes, a maintenance item, which easily would have been visually diagnosed in a pre-purchase inspection. Lastly, living here on the California coast I didn’t think any of the prices were exorbitant for what is in actuality...a super car!
Cars for me is a sickness. I started a list of the cars that I have had since I started driving legally in 1965. I have had 53 cars. Wish I had had half of the money that I spent on them today. I still love buying cars!
I know that one had to be bitter-sweet to let go of, but on the flip side of that coin, you got most of your money back out of that car... if we ignore the whole up-keep part of the equation. Makes me wonder what's next for the garage??
well after watching this, I'm super happy I became a technician not worrying about someone else's labor and only mine. if I wasn't it would be much harder to justify having my 08 s63. But I got into this career because I love cars so much and working on them is a joy and a great challenge in the end. We drive a car every day to do our daily routines and I can't stand not having a car I enjoy driving every day. Mercedes definitely grew on me more and more when I worked there for a few years training to become a tech, and man once I stepped into that 09 SL 63, and turned on that glorious M156 I knew I had to have an AMG.
Honestly all of those services, except for the brakes ( $2000+ is definitely an ouch), were actually relatively reasonable or even cheaper than I thought. So I'd assume a S63 would probably be a bit less due to them being a bit more available
Everything he explained was actually quite cheap compared to mercedes benz service stations here in germany - their mechanics take 150$ an hour so an oilchange is stupid expensive to begin with.
First problem, he didn't do his research of the car AND (1-3?) owners. Why would you buy a S65 AMG from a seller are willing to put a logo.com on this car/windshield for performance, hello? Finally, I believe the SELLER never cared for this CAR! Now you are paying the price.
That's too bad you're getting rid of it 😢 I just found your channel earlier today. Saw your other video where you just got this monster and I mentioned that I recently got an SL600 V12 (it's on my AutoAddict channel). Was really hoping for some V12 content from you. Us V12 guys gotta stick together! 😁 Sad to see it go
That was a beautiful car! I have an S600 W221 model and I've done a lot of work to the car. I've had it for just over 2 years now and I've been thinking of maybe replacing it with something else but I can't think of another 4 door car that I'd rather have and like you, I was actually looking for an E55AMG before i bought the S600. Looking forward to seeing what you get next. All the best!
Thanks so much for checking out my Mercedes S65 video and for your comment too. I think I'd like to find an S600 at some point, especially now that I'm better versed on these cars. It would be a fun comparison between the AMG S5 and the luxury S600.
I learned a long time ago that having a fancy car only brings stress to your life. You have to watch for door dings, scratches, dirt, kids messing with it... So now I drive an old S500 4-matic. Practically never wash it. It's got rust and paint flaking. I don't care. It's comfortable and quiet inside and that's all that matters to me.
I totally agree with you about fancy cars and the stress they bring. That's exactly why I felt that Mercedes S65 had to go. Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video too!
I went for the S320 V6 of 2003, in 2016 it had 170kKm and now 250kkm…! What a silent and confortable car! No matter how dirty...and Low cost parts! i got both front brake disks from brembo for 60e! And braking pads from brembo for 45e...air cond comp is 280e...4x tires from Michelin hurts at 650e...it s' a super ride ! Air suspension never changed! Only the air comp for 180e...of course! It has quite à low consumption of 8-9l on highways and 12l in city...Can run on GPL, or sp85...for cheep refull ! And costs around 3-4ke nowdays....before reset up the car ! Now i keep it for ever i hope 😎✌️ Everyone should have an S class...and feel so much more peacefull behind the wheel 😜
@@jeanjean376 Heh, I wish I could say the same for the S500. Front pads and calipers alone cost 750 eur aftermarket, originals would have cost near double.
My dad spend 10k on the Lexus LS460L same years just for minor things in one year. Here the list: Bushings, Tires Sensors, Fuse Box, Control Arms, Diagnostic, Deleted All The Christmas Tree Checks Lights, Tires, Breaks, Speed One Sensor, Parking Sensor (for a LEXUS) Not to mention another 9k asking price for four air suspension that we refused to do before selling it. Now imagine owning this Benz for a few more years.
Man... this guy isn’t a RU-vidr. He is a guy who has a RU-vid channel. He missed uploading so much good quality content on this ownership experience. Still, I keep coming back to see if there’s new vids cause the content is ok, usually there’s no more videos though.
Gorgeous car...I love the looks. I’m just too damn poor and cheap to ever own such a car. For less that the cost of the brakes you got a nice Buick! On to the next one.
to be fair 200 bucks to change oil is fine people spend more per year smoking cigarrets i used to smoke easly was blowing 3.000 euros a year just on tabacoo
So, you TCO for a year was only $416.00 per Mo??? That is an Amazing value compared to the TCO for the original owner. That being said, I have people trying to door dinging my S-Class in the parking lot because people are a$$holes!
The first year of ownership is often an expensive year due to the maintenance back-log the previous owner lacked doing. What a shame to do it away after a year.
So all of those costs were pretty basic stuff. Basically everything you had to do on this car is something that any performance car would require. None of the "special Mercedes stuff" broke on it, is what I got from the video. Not bad. Ironically keeping it longer may have actually been the better financial move. I post this having bought an 04 E55 in June 2020 and just bought an 07 S550 a few weeks ago so I'm living the E55 and W221 life at the moment.
During coronavirus I made a road trip of 11,600 miles over 48 days, from October to December What would the real reason be for not pursuing your travel dreams? Sure there were closures of all federal sights, but many many other destinations were available across the US, and some places did not care about mask use at that time. Hmmm.... For sure your car was legit!
No offense meant however these cars were never meant for those who even look at the cost of servicing, all due respect. Many of those charges you thought were astronomical were too bad at all.....It was the pinnacle of Mercedes Benz not Toyota.
Im telling you my friend if you want a truly reliable good muscle Mercedes get you a W204 c63 amg maint cost are there but its nothing like the s classes. You dont get all the amazing luxuries of the S class but if you get the saloon you get a full size sedan with a V8 that sounds like nothing else in the world. No matter if your at work, mcdonalds or the doctors office when you start it everyone will know you. breakpads and rotors for a c63 will only run you 1200,youll make alot of random store trips just to be in it😂
its a simple trade-off. if you dont want to pay an extra $5k a year to maintain your high performance, formerly cutting-edge V12, dont buy a high performance, formerly cutting-edge V12.
Your cost analysis makes one thing clear: $2900 for rotors and brakes out of the $5000 you spent in the year. A car with so many horses and so heavy is going to eat up tires and brakes. That’s a given. A six liter engine is going to require a lot of oil for lubrication. None of this is a surprise and is just routine maintenance.
You buy that car cheap because the car have a lot of issues... the oil change it's not expensive.. but a big engine need a lot oil.... so you need to say in the title it's how much cost the maintenance of my car in one year... you have a s65 amg .. what do you want? Haha
@@hullinger S 65 AMG is the ultimate machine for all about power and luxury. EU models 2007-2012 cost almost double price with 100 point presale check. Now, you know why, as mr Barry said. I have a S65 AMG mod 2011- since 2017. Total price included taxes in Greece is 130 000 euros. It s worth every cent. If you dont have money for those cars just make it over. So simply my friend. Any way, thanks for all videos.
Hi Chris thanks for the upload I have actually been looking up for this video. It's a good idea selling off the car, good luck on your next project, which we would be expecting.
You never buy these type of cars as an investment. I have a 2006 SL55 with the P30 performance package. Only 43 of these cars were ever ordered and sold in the US. I paid $25K w/65K miles and I set aside $10K for preventive maintenance. After 4 years I have spend $22K on preventive maintenance an Renntech upgrades. I have more into the car than it's worth. I don't give an F because the car gives me so much pleasure driving it everyday. It had a $143K MSRP and thanks to the wealthy 1st owner who took meticulous care of the car. You don't by a car as an investment, you buy these type of cars for the pure bliss they provide for 1/4 of the new MSRP. Please don't discourage others who have the dream - FCP Euro or other wholesale parts stores cost 1/2 of dealership priced. Also learning to work on these cars helps a lot too.
The thing to remember is that the parts for these 2007-2010 S65 are getting scarce and will push people way. the AMGs are special. An S550 would be better for the buck if you don't want the AMG.
In all honesty the oil change is normal. The cats were outrageous you could have just did magnaflow for less than $200 for the cats and just have someone weld them in. Now the brakes were definitely outrageous though
What is your "asking" price on that restorable Corvair van in your garage ?!? BTW - were the VAN versions included in Nader's "Unsafe At Any Speed" rant ?!? Many THANKS Yo ! 🔎💰💰🔍
Hey Chris, I'm just back from my "2020 USA Replacement Motorcycle Tour" in Greece. I would have liked to come to the USA ... but it just doesn't work :-). Maybe you saw my last motorcycle video from greece about it. I watched the video about the Mercedes with interest. Well, we're probably in the same boat. Your Mercedes spare parts are expensive. I had to invest heavily in the Vic before I could drive it. In addition the tiny virus ruined our travel plans for both of us... Greetings to you and your family ....from Frank from Germany
Shades of Horror - Revisited. My S55=AMG Car ALWAYS needed something. Nice car, yes, but the Wallet suffers for owning it. Glad to be rid of it forever. Sayonara Mercedes. No more nightmares going forward.
I was guessing all those parts were double from what he was saying. They only made 400 cars. I drive a CLS 550, that shares parts with a the E class, and they made millions of them across the globe and my parts are not cheap. I paid 650 bucks for my brakes. I bet if I priced a thermostat it would go for 300 bucks
Now V12's are extinct at Mercedes. ALL good condition M275 cars will be appreciating shortly because the peak V12 experience is unmatched by EV's over 60mph. I think much of the extra cost shock emotionally could have been avoided with a lower mileage stock car. They're out there. At least you recognize that you're not an S-Class man. Better to carry it to another owner who is prepared to dominate interstates at will.
The sound of a million angry bees swarming out the exhaust....LOL. While these are nice I honestly be scared to drive one long tern due to the cost of upkeep for them, now that Corvair sitting next to it I would daily that van as much as I could.
Why do people expect Hyundai Accent maintenance and repair costs on a high performance German luxury car? The car itself depreciated to $25,000.00 but the cost of maintenance and repair didn't.
the 1958 coronet was a u.s only and it wasn't a plymouth, dodge was a plymouth clone, in canad, that car would have been called a mayfair, built in the windsor plant as the plymouth, american plymouths, were made in detroit and the dodge was made in hammertrack, mich. (a g.m plant now)
I couldn't agree more. That Mercedes was a very expensive lesson I learned. I think if I ever get back into another V12 like this one I 'll be better prepared next time.
It's a shame you let they car go considering how cheap you bought this one. Very disappointing you felt the need to get rid of this car. You'd never find another one this nice. You flipped it too soon. Should have waited to watch entire video when you told us how much brakes cost and oil changes I almost had a stroke but that is a stunning car.
Wow I had no idea it was that expensive for maintenance for those. I know that had to hurt to let it go but if you're not enjoying it that's $25 grand just sitting there. I'm sure you'll put that money into something you'll enjoy...
My friend Roman told me about this channel. I really enjoy the way you present and I love your genuine approach. Thank you for your content. (Signed: Your new follower)
Ah man this would've been an exceptional road trip car! (Unless something broke in the middle of nowhere, you probably wouldnt be able to get parts at Autozone...) Glad to see the new owner is already cherishing it.
So true Brad. I really had plans to take some adventures with the car and make videos along the way. Just wasn't in the cards. And you're soo right about not getting parts at Autozone. All lessons learned. Practical Cars Forever!
@@hullinger I mean losing 5k in a year on a car sucks but imagine how much the original owner lost in depreciation in the first year alone...Gotta be at least five times that!
