Great Video! To all comments who are complaining about problems and repair costs: This was one of the most expensive and best cars Mercedes had to offer, more expensive as a house. Now after a few years the value of these cars depriciate extremly but the maintance cost stay the same. Compared to other V12 cars the MB 600/65s are not very expensive. Nobody complains about maintance on a Ferrari...Worst thing is to neglect maintance and buy the cheapest one on the market. Sure, there are bad examples and lemons but all V12s I have driven were pretty good and had no big problems, except for wear items. Hard spoken: If you can not / will not spend money on these cars than you will likely be unhappy with a Mercedes / BMW ect. Owner experience is to put aside every month around 2k for maintance and repair than you should be ok or have at least 5-10k around if something needs fixing. For example part prices (for original parts at the dealership): - around 50$ for one spark plug (need 24) - 10 qts oil, change at MB aroundf 450$ - one ignition module per bank, if they break and they do eventually: 2000$ for one side, just parts cost - brake dics front around 400$ for one (Brembo, not PP), for the PP/ AMGs 2000$ - ABC pump 1800$ - one ABC damper 1800$ (Prices could vary and were qouted at a MB parts dealer in Germany) These cars were never intended for the common man. If you are able to work on cars and buy parts from the manufactureres / internet, you can save real money and keep the running and operating cost pretty "low". Still...in the end those cars are no bargain at all and an economical desaster. No one really needs a
But isn’t that true for any car you buy? The maintenance will eat you up .. might as well shed the same for a v12 monster than a Honda or a new c class..
@@travelmemoir I've owned a 160,000km 2008 VW Polo for 6 years and it's never broken down on me once. I've put ~$400 AUD into servicing. That's it. Oh, and tyres and oil if you can count that... Diesel costs me nothing, it's the lightest 99hp car to exist. I know you're not necessarily not talking about my style of car, but ye, js that all cars aren't money pits at all.
SEVENTEEN you are really lucky mate.. I absolutely love the polo.. I am considering getting a used one for myself later this year.. the truth of the matter in these new cars they have so much electronics and moving parts.. automatic seats and what not.. and they tend to break.. I just wish I could get a car with a crazy engine stripped of all its gimmicks ... who the hell uses anything besides a heater and a stereo anyway ?
I worked at a Mercedes-Benz dealership and these are rocket ships, the power is insane and it just never ends! And it rides so comfortable and quietly. The air suspension can be costly if it goes bad and the motor has two spark plugs per cylinder and if the turbos blow it will suck. But yeah totally worth the money these can be picked up for these days!
I’m so pleased to see you happy with this car, it’s a brave decision for most of us to own one of these behemoths. Wishing you a long and trouble free relationship with the car
The reason your car was rockin and rolling was the suspension resetting itself. Also, the gas mileage on mine gets an average of 16 mpg. 11 mpg when I’m out having real fun.
The drivetrain is bulletproof, and that's the only thing that matters. Nobody bought those cars for any reason other than to run that twin turbo V12. That's the exact same engine in Pagani supercars, so it's a really good deal compared to paying for a Pagani, especially since nobody can't drive a Pagani daily.
Stunning car. Considering it's original cost you got a steal on that car. Your wife must love driving that around. Curious how bad the gas mileage is with that much engine and power. The electronics on that car are insane. Is there any option not on that car? Very good purchase it should be a keeper. It's in beautiful condition 😍
Thanks man and thanks for checking out the Mercedes vid. She's super sweet but almost too sweet. It's lux doesn't really suit me well but the horsepower is addictive! Laura feels the same as me in that the car is a little too flashy, too much luxury and that it doesn't fit our personalities. BUT, man she's a blast to drive around in. Mileage is dismal as you'd expect. Now I'm not really gentle on the car but I'm still shocked with the mileage dips into single digits.
At 7:55 into the video, when you explained how your cars suspension began to go up and down really hard on each wheel, it sounds like the ABC body control went into the "rodeo" mode that is used to (among other things) bleed the hydraulic lines that control all 4 susp struts as you drive. You can search for videos on YT about this.
these cars are fantastic as a lease, but i'm worried for your wallet for when that notorious mercedes quality (or lack thereof) catches up with the car. i'd much rather purchase an ls430 and turbo charge it than spend $10,000 a year keeping that beast running. i'm glad you enjoy it though :D
It is a great value- until something inevitably breaks- and you realize that there’s a reason that it costs as much as a Camry does and not as much as a AMG should.
There is a reason its an insane value to buy. The cost of maintenance and repair can EASILLY cost more than the car is worth. The market adjust what they think its worth based on that
Those V12 mercs have such high stall torque converters. The first time i drove one(SL65) I thought the trans was broken and horribly slipping but they all feel like that
upgrade some sper diff and turn of TC!!! great ship and people who say money pit and shit need to know v12 twin turbo was never produced for them...simple
Thanks man for checking out the Mercedes vid. It's incredible car to drive and be driven in..., but, you'll see in an upcoming vid why it gives me nightmares too!
A new BMW M760 runs around $170K atm. I'm guessing those will drop to $17K after they reach 12 years as well. I'm a big fan of the German V12's but I want a "driver's" car - something like the Maybach where all the cool stuff is in the back seat doesn't interest me. That's where the BMW is different - it's more driver focused. A BMW with the M package, AWD, V12 under the hood and the right color/trim will definitely get my attention. I finally understood why these cost so much brand new and why they are so cheap used - you HAVE to be rich to be driving one of these, either throwing money at the dealer every month for that lease payment on a new ride or throwing money at your favorite mechanic to keep it on the road after the warranty expires. These are simply not inexpensive vehicles, nor are they simple. You could make an argument that the quality and reliability are poor, but compared to a Lexus, these stand out better, give you a lot more color/trim options... and that V12 engine.
The rear headrest lowering feature is awesome! The first thing I do when I get a car with back seats is pull the headrests out and throw them in the trunk so I have better visibility out the back window.
Just like you, I can't believe just how lousy rearward visability is on newer cars today. It shocks me just how easy it is to see around whenever I'm in the Astro or any of the older cars. Amazing how the manufacturers got away from something so basic.
Is an amazing value until you have to replace the $5000 brake rotors, electronics are gonna go out one every 3 years and will be much expensive... when u have to rebuild the turbos and the engine excluse v12 engine youll see why is so cheap
Just bought an 04 s55 amg, was a bucket list car too. But my goodness its stressful. Just the process of changing the alternator is enough to scare you awake from a deep sleep lol.
Haha, so true my friend. Mercedes seems to have a different way of doing things. I recently replaced the brake rotors and calipers on my S65 and had to make two trips to Home Depot to get the right sockets to get the rotors off. It wasn't difficult but the tools needed weren't anything else I've ever needed before.
I took a chance like you did. Six years ago I bought '97 SL500 with a sticker price of $94k for 9K and I lucked out. No problems whatsoever. I'm a mere mortal like you and it gave me a chance to drive around in a Benz convertible that the rich guy before me laid down all the cash for and I'm having as much fun as he ever did. Sometimes late at night I can test it out, and yes, it indeed cruises nicely at 160 mph with the top down. It just makes me feel good driving a Benz, and what's wrong with that? All the thumbs up I get when I drive by with that V8 with the twin air induction growling are priceless.
JW Slayer if there was a charge for misinformation on the internet you would get a life sentence 😂 A Mercedes is no more expensive than a Lexus..... ? 😱so wrong dude. Dealership experience and millions of documented experiences across every facet of the internet and stored in every manner possible states unequivocally otherwise. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-17W_1HNXaXs.html
@@thomas0086 Son, I'm 50 years old and I have owned everything from lowriders to Japanese to big block american cars to Euros. There is no misinformation in what I'm saying. Why would you take your corolla to a dealer in the first place!! Like I said FCP Euro lifetime warranty parts and I have a independent mechanic that I've been going to for over 20 years. If my Mercedes automobiles were unreliable my bookkeeper AKA wife, would not let me have. P.S. A fine automobile is like a beautiful lady! You take care of them and they will take care of you!!!
@@mrbenz2392 The engine control module on this thing is ~10k, and while mercedes drivetrain certainly isn't as bad as BMW, it's all the little things that break (the dozen or two seat motors) at 1k apiece, plus maintenance costs which result in their well deserved reputation. These were >100k cars when new, with commensurate running costs.
What a lovely ride, mate, blessed with a beautiful V12 heart, you are a blessed man to own this car man. Is that whinning sound coming from your power steering oil pump?
Awesome nice car. I like it a lot. I have never seen a car with that many controls and buttons. But I love the sound of the motor and all the wood trim in the car. It's an awesome car for sure. I am looking for an almost new to new pickup. Just a plan single cab two-wheel-drive old man's truck. Can you recommend any dealers in the area? Many thumbs up to the video. I truly like the car.
Thanks man. There's a whole lot of luxury with this Mercedes. Almost too much for me as I'm more of a 'meat and potatoes' guy. As for a truck, I can't think of any that I know that's for sale but if something turns up, I'll holla atcha.
Very nice ride. I have to agree with the others that has to be costly when it comes to repairs. But I have watched enough of your videos that I think you will move it on down the road before it gets to that. Enjoy it while you have it...Pat
I drove one . The experience is almost unparalleled in any other another sedan . The sound is like rolling thunder the 738 ft lbs if torque are felt at 2000 rpms , speed is scary , although not frightful I’m alittle used to fast cars but for a person coming from a under 300 hp car this will feel like rocket . Handling feel good too not sport car like but steering is tight and accurate , I test drove a 2013 alpina b7 before the s65 so I able to get a good perpective . The bmw was smoother overall , but the merc gave me a better satisfying drive the feedback on the steering and the purr of the v12 , you can feel the vibration the sound , the bmw felt too smooth, the only thing I didn’t like was the mercs long gear ratios only 5 spd I wouldn’t recommend the s65 unless it’s all up to maintenance particularly the brake rotors and calipers because if those are going bad or need work ( like the one I drove ) your going to be paying a lot for new rotors they are massive some of the biggest I’ve seen, they might be ceramics composite brakes, also take a peak under for oil leaks as i discovered on the s65 after I test drove it. It already had a drop on the grind and it has only been sitting for 5 mins
Amazing...but I get the feeling that you might not fully comprehend the immense budget needed if you keep this car long term. You really need to have $25k handy. But good luck to you....probably one of the best ;luxury cars of all time. I'm jealous.
Right but...... who is buying a $200,000 car that DOES NOT have $25k handy?! These types of comments are nonsensical. For example - if you cannot afford to properly maintain a Lamborghini, perhaps you cannot actually afford a Lamborghini in the first place. Common. Sense.
This car seems to be luxury in motion but is it worth it ? too expensive to buy it , too expensive to maintain , 12 cylinders twin turbo means you need a trailer in the back for autonomy on fuels and as if 600 horses weren't enough 700 make it even more aggressive , in other words you need to be a millionaire in order to afford it and you need tires often ...and i am asking you one question now ...Why ?
Nice pick 👍 If you needed to serve this car Change differential axial oil both front and rear Oil change gearbox step 2qrt , 2nd step 2qrt and full change "without filter" if you want , and make rest for gearbox obd port Air filter engine "very important" cause it twin turbo Coolant and thermostat " you should change it between 80 to 100 miles " Check air matic suspensions oil level Thanks I'm happy to watching your contact video channel 😊
Thanks for the tips and thanks for sharing all that. I haven't done much maintenance on the Mercedes yet however it's about time I get into it. Thanks again!
@@hullinger this all about Why i always watching your contact you are really gentle Man 😊 I appreciate your speech and your response to these polite phrases Thanks gentle Man 👍
Here is my thing... does anyone look at the styling? Not giving anyone shit... but I don’t see a sports car or a performance car being that... especially, if it has fog lights.
Beautiful and very very tempting car....they are also incredibly cheap in Australia, because no one in their right mind would buy an out of warranty Twin Turbo V12 S-class.
And that is exactly the topic for the next video on this Mercedes. The cost of parts, the complexity of the electronics and why buying a car like this is a stupid decision.
Wealthy people rarely keep these cars, a few free maintenance and trade in after 4 years. Never pay out of warranty maintenance or repairs and get a new car. And just repeat.
In the s600 and the s65 I believe the headliner is actual suede not the alcantara. I know In previous generation alcantara was used in the v8 models prior to the w221 series and suede was used in the AMG and v12 cars.
Yes, these Mercedes S65's are incredible in every way. If I can mention something to you, if you're buying a used car like mine, please, please ask about the last time the brake rotors were replaced and when they will need to be replaced again. Those things are crazy, stupid expensive and it's a cost that you might be able to negotiate into the purchase price. Same with the coil packs that start expiring in the 90K - 100K range. Otherwise, enjoy her!
Haha, you saw that! Yeah, it's time to start moving out some of the cars I have. Downsize the fleet and start chipping away at the bucket-list of cars I still have to get to. I listed the car at $24,500 but after brakes and other things, I'm at nearly $30k into her.
Your traction control is OFF... if that yellow triangle shows up on the cluster when you mash it. Your tires will spin with it off. I turn mine off on occasion... to do burn outs
If you want to have this car for long time then all German brands must be driven on daily basis .. its not Ferrari where it meant to be in a garage ... germans have so many parts in their manufactured cars that need to be driven so it lives and run
Let me show you what it can do and proceeds to stop at 70 mph. Honestly, it's pure waste to own these types of cars in a country with 65/75 mph road limits.
German cars are amazing the there very needy that’s as luxurious as an Lexus LS 460 inside enjoy the Mercedes with all the horses looks like a lot of fun to drive enjoy
All of that is well and good but what kind of mileage does it get? that IS the most important thing about any car. JK, I don't care what any cars gets for mileage.
Throw caution into the wind with this car, and its lousy gas mileage. I'm not very gentle with it but I'm still shocked with the mileage dips into the single digits.
It costs that much due to overpricing. I should know..I collect MB vehicles. Which is why MB depreciate faster than a Republican caught having sex with a 12yr old girl.
@@changeyourenergy708 First of all..the technology isn't expensive. Technology is now cheaper than ever due to super fast computers and algorithms. It's the maintenance and repairs that are expensive. And yes..you can have a lot of technology that is reliable. That's why Lexus is the success it is today. And I collect the classic MB that were built by hand, are reliable, and go up in price over the years..such at the Gullwing. Not the disposable garbage that is made today.
