Dr Lori, thank you so much! For the past 20 years I’ve been Trying to identify the boxes of antique porcelain, Glass, artwork, furniture and jewelry that I inherited from my grandparents years ago. They were antique dealers. I have tried researching everything on my own without much luck in determining what things were and what their value is. After watching a few of your videos for the first time tonight, I’ve learned more then I have in the past 20 yrs. Thank you for what you do! Ps: I live in Lion country…..Go Penn State!!!!!
my husband and i think you are such a great person and you teach us about many things in a pleasant way always bring joy and smiles and many conversations at dinner.we find your wit and humor so refreshing that i told him if we lived next door to you that soon we all be roommates because i would follow you around just to hear you speak and absorb as much knowledge as you let free. You Rock ...Never Change..Stay Well :)) Don & Cynde Wall
My dad was in the Philippines also (a medic and a barber in the hospital in Manila) He took and traded with other photographers …many photographs. He had a bow made from a lemon tree by a native..many stories and would be interesting to know if your father and mine might have known each other. We have photos of him with men he knew or worked with in the large hospital there in Manila
Hi, Dr. Lori ! I just recently discovered your channel. Needless to say, I am learning something new from you every day. Like another person said, I'm looking forward to the thrift stores opening again! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Take care!
Love you instantly. Have enjoyed thrift shopping a lot and found you amusing. The penny dropped when I saw the banner in the background announcing your style! Needed a pick me up, thanks so much, subscribed!
Hi Dr.Lori i watch your videos n love them ive learned alot about antiques from you i have many in my garage.thanks for sharing.be safe.be careful n god bless you.
Your hair is going yes yes I'm glad you're letting it to grow cuz you got beautiful hair and a lot of Italian women who have beautiful hair like that have a little bit longer and it looks so good on them. I'm so happy you're letting it grow
@@DrLoriV I can't believe how much knowledge you have it's amazing and another thing I can't believe how anybody would want to challenge you when they have no iota. The more videos I watch the more I can see how educated you are in your field. And I noticed sometimes people expect a very high price and if they don't get what they imagined then they get angry if you know what I mean. You're very honest and you say it how it is. When you appraised some of my things I was surprised that what I thought wasn't valuable was valuable. And vice versa. You sure been around the block when it comes to going to different countries and appraising items. I wish I had known you years ago when I got rid of my mother's belongings I never kept anything. There was so many antiques and coins as well as handmade ginseng carpets and handmade wool carpets from India. She had that lamp shades made from onion skin. And I was only 17 and I just told the transport truck to come and pick everything up and I auctioned it off a three bedroom house full of antiques and I only got $2,000. She had the red rose and the yellow rose complete set of Royal Albert and I mean with everything. teapots gravy dish salt and pepper shaker you name it she had it. She had beautiful pearl necklaces black pearls white pearls because they were her favourite. She had fur coats that were already antique or vintage from the 30s 40s 50s. She had movie stars pictures that were signed. Beautiful solid antique brass bed. And she collected antique Chinese porcelain. And old books with the onion skin on the inside and she turn the pages. Yes I remember all of this and I look back and I say if I only knew then what I know now. A person should put things away in storage and wait a year before they do anything after a family member dies especially when you're young because when you're young you are not thinking clearly and I did not have any advocate I just had me and my father. Death is not a normal thing.. we were created to live forever and when death hits us it's hard for us to deal with it and we make the wrong decisions and I think I remember you saying in one of your videos that the young people should think before they sell their parents or their grand parents antiques. Because you just never know what could be in those boxes. I recently found three canning jars full of old pennies from Value Village and they looking pretty good shape even though they are from the 50s 60s and 70s. What I conclude is that perhaps Grandpa would throw pennies into the jar and collect them and he might have died and the kids probably saw it as just valuable s pennies. And in Canada here we don't use pennies anymore. But I collect coins because certain ones can be very valuable. As you know Yes your videos are very educational and beneficial. And like I say you speak the truth and I value your appraisal. Have a good day Lori and hello from Canada again and keep safe we haven't reached the second wave with this Coronavirus. It's crazy but it is one sign of the times that we're living in goodbye
@@BL-rb7jm I'm sorry you lost your Mom so young. I'm happy you are getting something out of the videos. I always tell people to share their stories so thanks for doing that. Hopefully someone will benefit from your experiences :) Stay safe!!
I appreciate the love. I love you guys too--I'd have to love you to share all this valuable info--Go out there and let me help you find the treasures. Make me proud! And please share the channel, view the vids, and subscribe. Thanks.
My Dad flew in bombers over Germany during WWII. He was later stationed in Germany in the 1950's with the Air Force and I was born there, but we returned to the US six weeks later so I have no memory of the country. I recently found out the AFB I was born at was in Bavaria and I was surprised when I looked around my house to see how much pottery and porcelain I had collected over the years from Bavaria!
It's always a good day when a new Dr. Lori video premiers! I learn so much, and I really enjoy your sense of humor. I hope to be able to attend a live event the next time you are in the Tampa Bay area. Thanks again for another great video, Dr. Lori!
@@KR-sh6rm Great! Keep tabs on my schedule on my website for future Live appearances on Morning Blend. We are trying to work out schedules now for more appearances soon :) For example, you can watch a live stream of me on a TV station in Philadelphia tomorrow. Link is on my FB and website pages.
Again, love that you shared your educational and experiential background, 3 years college, 2 years masters, 5 additional years for your PhD (Penn State U), 10 years in Major Museums, 5 years University teaching (knew you had a pedigree of teaching from the very first video I watched), 20,000 objects a years, trips around the world--I'd say, "You're qualified!"
Dr. Lori, with the Coronavirus & most of us quarantined in some way, your video's are definitely the silver lining around the cloud. You're so funny & so kind! I love the way you are personable with everyone. Your absolutely WONDERFUL!! Thank you!
@@tscarletespin2261 Oh my GOSH, your SO right. I'm completely addicted to Dr. Lori's wealth of information & knowledge! She's just what the "DR" ordered!!! 😂🤗
I hope you find the humor in this. I had my husband watch this episode because your funny as heck and I was impressed with your education. He started mimicking you while describing my upper torso. It was hysterical. Thankyou for your descriptive explanation of the blue and white Asian vase!🤭
Thanks so much for this. Been collecting porcelain pieces. Like you, I am after the piece' "dulce et utile" quality---its genuine art and use as well as the story behind its acquisition. ❤
You are right. Years back before the dumps were given over to trash companies. We could go dump our stuff pick up other stuff that people left and go home. Got a complete set of dishes that way. Just left there. Of course back then you did not just throw stuff like that out. You took it and carefully left it because we all knew how the system worked. Hopefully will send pic for appraisal. Sad. Out dumps would not be so full now if we went beck to the old way. In my opinion. God bless
As always, appreciate the education.. Had an amazing day yesterday.. found thousands of dollars in different Early 1800s to early 1900s ceramics, porcelain dolls, vases, plates, cups, and bowls at a local goodwill.. needless to say I'm pumped again, resale bug re-ignited, heading back out today for more thrift hauls.
"United....But Apart" Love, love, love, your videos, advice, your sense of humor. So much more but I have to get to my ironing . Thank you Dr. Lori. You are just wonderful!!!!! Please stay safe .
I absolutely love your attitude and that Italian in your face responses. My dad was a 1st generation Italian American, his parents came from Italy through Ellis Island. The funny thing is that he was married 3 times, and my mom was straight up hillbilly Irish from West Virginia, but my twin sister and I were adopted when they were 49 and 50. We probably have more than enough of the Italian attitude, but technically we are Swedish, German, and Native American. What a mix eh? My dad even tried to arrange marriages for my sister and I to good Italian men, I guess that was a thing back when he was young. He was born in 1921, and my mom 1922, I was lucky enough to have my dad until he was 87, and he passed away peacefully at home with our family that he loved to be in the middle of the crazyness, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He lived long enough to see 5 grandchildren and another 4 great grandchildren. Unfortunately, my mom was diagnosed with dementia/alzheimers when we were in our early 20's, she was always kinda different and had crazy mood swings. I took care of her until I was about 33, but it was getting too dangerous to keep her at home, she would try to drink dish soap and eat things that she shouldn't, walking out of the house was a problem. I used to sleep in front of the bedroom door to make sure that she didn't walk away at night. She passed away 3 years before my dad. I'm almost 49 now and have no idea of where all the time went. Love your videos, Blessings! FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE!
I dont meet many people of our age who had fathers who served in WWII. My dad was in the European Theater and was a POW in neutral Switzerland until he escaped.
I just love you One day i will get my son to help. me send you photos of my collection of Lladro. Also Price Bros tea pot and two biscuit barrels. My husband is 80 and Price Bros beloved belonged to a great aunt. Also a Edinburgh crystal storm lamp. It is so difficult to get pieces value here in Africa .Thank you. Keep safe . You are too valuable to lose x
aww! I wish I could have chatted with y'all today but I had to work I'm what you call a essential worker I'm a produce manager in a grocery store and it been nonstop 😁 I hope your chat was a success. I thought about what you said getting all my collectables in order and priced for kids I would not want them to loose out by having someone sale my stuff for cheap you rock Dr Lori
Dr. Lori you’re the absolute person. I admire you so much. Excellent student 👩🎓, you’re from smart parents. Red looks so good on you. Beautiful inside and out.
Ii know you are probably joking, but that is what a lot of people think. So they start thinking their stuff is worthless. Someone comes buy, sees that in fact it's valuable and they want to buy it. They let you keep thinking you have "crap" so they can get a good bargain for themselves. Then, years later, after I appraise a similar piece at an event or on a video and you see it, you realize that you didn't have "crap".
@@DrLoriV It made me laugh right out loud because thats how I feel. *oh im sure this isnt worth anything, my family didnt come from money, my grandmother/mom didnt have the greatest taste...etc" not to mention mysrlf, I usually love what no one else takes a second glance at😅. I just simply think you are so funny and I love your knowledge, never gets old🤔 ...no pun intended😏
Some beautiful pieces revealed. The matter of the kids not wanting certain things that I know to be of value - we are having that issue at our house and I just want to shake some sense into my daughter. She likes "MODERN". Yet, there are family furniture pieces that are antique that really need to be passed on. My sister has her tongue hanging out wanting them, and most likely she will get them one day and then go to her daughters. The kids are really impossible for the parents to deal with when it comes to that stuff (and other stuff too of ocurse).
@@DrLoriV WOW Really !! SO i don't have to worry if my 3 children pass on family hand_me_downs, good to know that maybe one of their 8 (so far!!) will not.
@@DrLoriV , I have this old dark oak server that my grandfather finished for my grandmother. It was first passed down to my aunt. Her hubby put a can of paint on it and it left a red ring on the top. My mother hid the spot with a dresser scarf, and I planned to crochet a doily scarf to cover it. I consider the red ring a memory too, so I will never remove it. It's sad but my grandfather refinished a dining room table and chairs to match. He worked hard on them. My mother was angry one night and broke almost all the chairs. (That was after I left home. My sister told me about it.) I have the table and a picture of me standing on it with my grandfather holding me and assuring me that he would never let me fall. I actually remember that and what he said to me. It was a great picture of my grandfather and me.
Hi Lori, I would like to co.e to one of your shows. I have some Chinese art I can't find anything about dated in the 1962. Do you have a site where I can send you a picture and maybe you can tell me about it?

Hi, Dr Lori, love your video! I wonder where can I sell the pieces with the prices you appraised, if I have them? Most people don't know the value of the antiques.
My online appraisal written reports include a location where similar piece sold and for how much. Reports can be requested at www.drloriv.com/find-values/online/online-appraisal-form/
So Dr. Lori, I was curious, has this virus outbreak affected any of your programs? I have made a promise to myself to try to attend at least one of your shows this year.
Dr. Lori ... THANK YOU! You're questions are invaluable to a generation that reflects our times. But more importantly, inquiries and the wisdom, backed up by the intellectual insight of academic knowhow... Truly your fun loving, humor, as well as enjoyable ability to speak in public is what makes your strength shine. Once again, I appreciate your hard work and input you so eloquently share. Best, TLSP p.s. always sharing with my historian acquaintances & friends.
I heard you mention that I can get appraisals on internet from you. Please let me know how I can go about getting all your information for me to reach out to you. My
Not me. I was there and I loved the show and all the information I learned. I can't wait till you come back to Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Love you Dr. Lori, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hi Dr Lori. This is Sharon Rice with the horse and cart. I’ll need to talk with my tech savvy children in order to send a picture. Can’t find my old post or your reply 😏. Don’t give up on me😉
I’ve been watching hours and hours of your videos. So interesting! Thank you very much. Question: If estate sales undervalue and auctions only bring in a fraction of an item’s worth, where can someone try to sell items of value? My Mom has asked for help in selling many of her collectibles as they downsize and we (the kids) cannot seem to find a venue to do so. Any tips would be so helpful.
I have a lot of selling tips in my blog posts answering questions like this in detail. My online appraisal reports show a place where a similar piece sold. A client used a report to help them resell a plate they bought at a yard sale for $1. They resold it for over $1,000. Don't be the person who priced (not valued) the plate for $1 :)
Love your attention to detail and the humor that you throw in. Someday I will have you appraise my mini beanie babies lol. I do have my grandmas china, no i dont use it for fear of it getting broken but if i ever do I'll use her silverware (plated only 😕, Also have her bedroom table milk glass hobnail lamps, and several other hobnail pieces. I love my hobnail collection berry bowls etc. Im going to let my collection breathe tonight! Lol. Stay safe and be well my RU-vid friend!💜💙💚✌✌
Have found a few item's in this video recently....ty....I'm able to spot quality.....but at the same time I can't pass it up when I find it cheap....causing a storage issue but the more I find the better I'll be in the long run...as soon as I can have you do an appraisal on my items as soon as I possibly can.....I find new items most days only because I'm making the effort to find them......people really don't have a clue what they have
Dr. Lori bringing in doctoral ed, yet again!!!🤣🤣🤣 SHEEEEET~ WOULD TOO, IF I WENT TO SCHOOL FOR THAT LONG!!!😄😄😄👍👍👍💖💖💖 Another great/informative vid!!!🤗👍🤗
