I cant believe this is the same woman who voiced Jane in Tarzan.

In the movie, her character is made to look like an off-key opera singer. She is actually a talented beautiful singer.

Say what you want about this movie, Minnie Driver is HILARIOUS as Carlotta! She's just such a diva!

I love Carlotta's vibrato!! But Christine's voice is so clear...

If you pause the video at 32 seconds, you will see that the portrait is of Carlotta holding Andrew Lloyd Webber's head on a platter

if you listen to "Notes" right before this, they don't even believe in the phantom (or at least they don't want to believe in him)

that gets me everytime too. I laugh every time I watch that part I'm like *DEEP BREATH* BREATH BREATHE CLEAR!!!!! SING!!!! whew its over....lol.

I'd LOVE to play Carlotta! The actress is probably the sweetest woman you could meet, but if she's anything like me, she loves playing mean girl parts! They're so fun!

call me crazy but after watching this a few times I now find this film more funny than serious but I grew up loving musicals and still do. it's just they have such classic moments you can't help but laugh at. I guess their getting better at capturing our imagination with the old favorites in new ways of course.

Okay so i looked up the lyrics and in some of the things Firmin and Andre said... they think Christine wasn't with the phantom but sleeping with Raoul....

Now I'm curious about how it would've been if Christine played the Countess.

They try so hard to keep her to spite the phantom. They don't want someone else bossing them around and running their opera house so they're doing the opposite of everything he tells them to do.

My knowledge of this tradition is limited but I can provide you with a basic answer. The lead is on stage for excessive amounts of time and leads to sweating, which as pretty much anyone can tell you stinks. So to cut back on the stench wine is poured into the shoes to act as a perfume. They drank the wine so A. As not to waste it and B. it was a sort of good luck ritual of sorts. There may be a bit more to the history but I am not aware of it. Hope this helps more than than ClassV's did.

Minnie Driver DOES have a beautiful voice, though there was another person singing to make it sound 'bad.' Minner Driver sings "Learn to be Lonely" at the end of the film.

I like how Carlotta's voice is way more rough around the edges, compared to Christine's refined voice. It stresses their personalities even more! :D

I always pictured Carlotta as being much chubbier than Minnie Driver.
