The aspect of an “arms race” between chaos and the imperium is really cool IMO. Also giving firstborns a spot of reverence instead of being phased out is necessary for me, as I’m a firstborn fan.

I used to hate primaris. But recently I bought 5 assault intercessors for 5 bucks on the aftermarket. I use them to practice different painting techniques. Best purchase ever.

Made progress on my pile of shame this week. Then I left the house and came back with the 2019 kill team starter set. Last week was Blackstone Fortress. I should stop leaving the house. I don't even play 40k.

It's funny how the lore mirrors people's reactions. It started off negative much like the first born marines chapters did. Calling them reskinned ultra marines like how fans called them generic. Then slowly getting better models like bladeguard, and became more accepted in the community. As the other chapters also welcomed them more.

I find firstborn to be cute and primaris cool. They fit two snug little niches in my brain, and they fit comfy.

I really like this channel. I don’t know much about warhammer. I remember having top trump cards back in the 90’s and loved them. no idea how to play the board game, what all the numbers mean, or how you create armies. I’ve painted about 3 models and it takes me ages but I really like the lore, the models and audiobooks and I really like how enthusiastic this fella is, seems the sort of person you want to hang out and paint with. No idea how he paints so fast though! Great channel keep up the good work.

Baneblade was probably my favorite 40k novel. It was just really awesome orky shlock, loved it.

I agree with your comment about primaris making the lore more interesting overall. War of Secrets gets a lot of bad rap for fallen memes but shows an interesting dynamic between the firstborn and Primaris Marines in the Dark Angels

I love the ornate-ness of some of the firstborn kits, but I like the scale of primaris more. My solution is to replace everything but the bodies and legs of primaris with firstborn stuff

The problem with Primaris though is that instead of being a supplement which originally they were meant to be they became the replacement for Firstborn. This is also clearly seen by how all the individual units were differentiated by their weapon rather than the armour like with Firstborn, making them look really monotonous. Also the trust aspect with Marines was always shaky between chapters but now there is that internal mistrust. Also the fact that like every character who took the Primaris upgrade survived (and got an updated mini) creates no tension or stakes for them. Finally they (and SoB) needlessly have taken away attention needed by many other armies.

I think the introduction of primaris could have been a lot better. Imo the best script should have been like this: Guillyman learns about what happened with the ravenguard and the raptors. And he sets Cawl to figure out how they can be replicated, get rid of the taint etc etc. And this is what Cawl works on for nearly 9 thousand years. And than starts producing them in in a bout 1000 years before current event. At the same time he is looking for old 30k tech and repurpose them for primaris use. If it went down like this people wouldnt have been so resitant to them.

They are being written in the lore storywise not so good though, they are written just like marines of the firstborn were in books, what they can and cannot do is the same, perhaps its th failing of the writers, the only notable difference, they run out of ammo faster, thats it.

My mrs has a load of Primaris marines, she really likes them and she's better at the painting than me atm😊 ... But soon, considering they live inside the same cupboard as my Death Guard, she might wake up one day just to find the grandfathers blessings have spread. Lol

I actually do like the Primaris Marines, just not necessarily their implementation. It feels like they came out of nowhere and are telling us they're better in every way than the firstborn, and that we just need to leave them behind. I don't want firstborn marines phased out entirely, they should give them some new models with better proportions and still be viable in the tabletop.

I have around 3500 pts of Chonky Stormcast Eternals and I love them. I also like the new Roman looking Stormcast and look forward to mixing and matching.

Those Star Wars minis, are they in scale enough that I could sneak some like Storm Trooper heads onto some Space Marune torsos?

People who dislike the Primaris Marines often forget how stale the Space Marine line was in the years prior to 8th edition. There are only so many revamps a kit like Devastators or Assault Marines can take. The Centurion warsuits were an attempt to add something new that also hit a "lore" wall with existing players. The Stalker and Hunter Tanks did nothing that an upgraded Whirlwind could not accomplish. My main gripe with Primaris is the 101 flavors of Boltgun. IMO there are so many weapons variants that playing requires use of data sheets during game. The addition of grav tanks has allowed Marine players to break away from the Rhino variants. This also brings a welcome distinction from Chaos Marines whose tech has an excuse for being 10,000 years in use. Release of more Chapter specific upgrades for marines and vehicles would go a long way to maintaining the flavor of the various factions without losing the broader accessibility of the new kits to all Marine players. More wargear options for Primaris Characters would also help. I feels silly that a Lieutenant or Sergeant will put away his Power Sword/Fist to put on Phobos Armor. The Priaris rule for transports is just an obvious ploy to sell new tanks and should be removed.

I have enjoyed some of the new Primaris models, namely the bladeguard veterans, redemptor dreadnought and repulsor tank. But the lore is still meh. Call should have been split into several different characters. The fact that the primaris marine project was headed in secret by a single batshit crazy tech priest. (Don't get me started on the amount of resources that were transported in secret to make this. Still its not as bad as the Word Bearers Abyss project).

Primaris were created purely to update the models to a larger scale and that’s why they suck. You could change the lore so that Cawl just created new equipment and you would get all the same models without ruining anything. Any novel you read with primaris they essentially act the same as regular space marines and operate on the same general power level which just further proves how redundant they are, the only effect they have on the setting is now chaos marines got a massive nerf lore wise and are just inferior to loyalist marines which is dumb

I didn't even get into 40K tabletop much until Primaris because I thought the older models looked too goofy and stumpy. I don't care about their lore either way, I'm fine with it; I just see them as modern, good Space Marine models. Hell, GW should just write in a completely safe rubicon procedure, make it mandatory for every Space Marine to cross and be done with any distinction between the two.

It sucked to be those primaris in Brazen Drake Drake's colors when the Custoddes fleet arrived at Khassedur with the gift of the primaris reinforcements and primaris gean seed just to find out that the Brazen Drake's had turn traitor it sucked to be those primaris on those custodes ships lol but really big there is one army from AoS that needs an update it's Slaves to Darkness yes they did get new mini's in the start collecting box and the warband for Dierchasam but the majority of those models are from WHFB 4th edition

You cannot imagine the betrayal until you've experienced it. I played WHFB for years, bought every army book for every army, and then the killed it to make fantasy 40K. If ever you want to know what GW thinks of you, that should let you know.

Primaries marines are just true scale marines, it will all be retconned. I just wish they introduced true scale marines without royally screwing up the lore.

Primaris range models were necessary as an aesthetic upgrade and datasheet update but the lore is i-d-i-o-t-i-c. There should not be any difference between old and new models in the lore.

I think I would have enjoyed Apocalypse more by reading it as a book rather than an audio book. I thought the voice acting was dire and almost every character came from the north of england in various local accents. Of course the Raven Guard all sound like chronic smokers and the White Scars voice acting was painful to listen to!

Ah, you're talking about reading a new book. Well I too read a 30k-ish book not even a year old, Valdor, and I want my money back. They tried to spice up the contents of the audio book with cool sound effects, but some stuff Valdor was saying I just thought he sounded like an idiot who had no idea what he was talking about and not this pinnacle of genetic science as well as just how much they crapped all over the lore, the writer had no idea what he was talking about and it was painful to listen to. As for Primaris, I don't like them and as the lore has gone on, I still don't like them because they are changing 40k into a setting I don't like. I got into 40k because of the gritty designs and architecture and because the lore was basically like "This is the 41st millenium, this is not a story about humanity winning or struggling to survive, humanity is a drowning man thrashing to keep his head above water". Some Primaris stuff I like, the Blade Guard Veterans look real nice (although only coming in 3's has me rolling my eyes), but for the most part it's looking too clean, like it's edging closer to star trek than 40k. I would also disagree with space marines being uninteresting without their humanity, I'd say that makes them more interesting and adds a very skewed dynamic to the universe. Like here you have humanities saviors and humanities saviors start off as young boys who are likely very violent individuals. They are murderers, thugs, cannibals etc. or they could be born to a feral world where humans are not top of the food chain like Fenris, they could be born on a world where they burn witches and hold jousting tournaments, the best description I heard of a "good guy" space marine was a dreadnought whom in life was described as being the kind of person that if they were born on any civilized world would have been thrown into the deepest, darkest cell in a prison for the criminally insane and never let out. So you have guys like that and then they are given a purpose to protect humanity and they take to it. Now these dangerous and violent boys are something more and less than humanity. They have a higher duty than to the individual and so now you have them being the shock troops they were made to be, but they have a callous disregard to the common man, because they aren't here to protect the common man, they protect humanity as a whole, one of these individuals is worth 1000 or more common folk and everyone knows it. I find that dynamic better than the stright forward "good v bad" where primaris marines are trying their hardest to protect every last person that comes across their path. I think I would like Primaris more in subsequent generations. Each chapter has it's own history, traditions and culture, the primaris marines do not, primaris marines currently are just a bunch of toy soldier martians. I think when you have primaris marines acting like Flesh Tearers or Red Scorpions or whatever chapter they are apart of, is maybe when I'll give it a second look, until then it just isn't 40k to me

Yeah sorry but I cannot agree when it comes to the primaris "making the lore more interesting". Becuase they had to ignore massive swaths of the lore to put them in. Also I'm sorry but where do you get this idea that the space marines are perfect, but the primaris are somehow more flawed? Because one of the chief complaints about the primaris is they are all monoculture, and perfect. The primaris shouldn't have been accepted by.... virtually anyone except for the direct successors of the ultramarines and a few extremely rare exceptions. (And even then the whole thing borders on heresy that Guillimans word would barely hold back even his own guys.) The blood angels shouldn't have ever excepted them. At least not until they started showing signs of having the black rage. Giving them some sort of connection to Sanguinius. (Though they would still be pissed about the geneseed manipulation) Dark angels, shouldn't have ever accepted them they have too many secrets to let in outsiders and even if they for some reason all had a collective stroke and let them in. Said battle brothers would never be allowed into the Deathwing or Ravenwing, and by extension the inner circle. (Especially becuase they would be pissed about the geneseed manipulation of there primarchs geneseed.) Space wolves probably should have utterly slaughtered there primaris "reinforcements" in what would be akin to loyalist version of the dropsite massacre. And proudly telling guilliman they excuted a bunch of abominations, and they are hunting whatever technophile commited thus sacrilege to there geneseed. And the list goes on. Point is having read lore around the cursed founding, the badab war, the... the history of the lamenters chapter, etc. The space marines all take there geneseed being manipulated as the WORST form heresy (even for "atheist" chapters) that you can commit. Not to mention the cursed founding left a bad taste in everyone mouths and they tried what cawel apparently accomplished in less the a 1000 years by himself.
