Primitive Cooking Wild Bird, Cattails Over Fire! | 100% Wild Food Survival Challenge

In day 6 of our survival challenge things finally work out with a wild turkey...persistence finally pays off! We land this bird in the early morning with a near perfect spring turkey outing. Some soft yelps after a tree cackle brings this guy into range. A loan hen is too hard to resist, but just when the gobbler decides it's a set-up, it's too late. Bird down! A welcome addition to my wild food buffet!
To see the processing of the wild turkey click here (not for sensitive viewers): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t6XfcMPzG-E.html
Full Season 5 Playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLDg2Qmw9pKiclzO_J5N1JwadNm3aWXXNV
I will show you how to clean and cook the bird over a spit roast on an open fire.
The goal is to replace any calories we burn foraging for wild foods in order to balance our energy expenditures as modern foragers.
We bait our lobster traps with alewife or river herring which we dip netted the day before. This is all about survival and eating the foods that we can easily forage and scavenge from wild sources. We are really trying to balance our calories eating only wild edibles.
We will show you how to cook and clean the clams and eat the stomach. We will remove the skin and also purge and wash the clams and boil in water.

The Wilderness Living Challenge is not a "survival challenge," but more like a test of the modern hunter gatherer to sustain himself on wild foods only. We will weight ourselves at the start of the challenge and weight out at the end. If we lose any weight at all, we lose the challenge!
Check out Zach Fowler: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lUeIrQCIjZc.html
Follow along as we struggle to get wild foods!
I am joined by Zach Fowler on his home turf in Maine, USA in the spring.
Here, we plan to do Season 5 of The Wilderness Living Challenge. The goal of the challenge is to gain or maintain our body weight eating only the wild food we can collect on site using whatever means necessary.
Winning the Wilderness Living Challenge is harder than it seems.
Season 5: Maine Spring, takes place in Maine, USA with coastal food priorities including fish, clams, crab, seaweed, groundhog, pigeon, turkey, dandelion, cattail, and whatever else is edible! Nothing is off the menu, if it's edible, we'll eat it.
We make use of all the resources in this challenge to meet the demands for calories imposed by the human body!

I've commented enough on this video, but after editing my second main video (10-20min) for my channel, I have SO much respect for the amount of footage you have to edit down. If you haven't captured footage, created content, then edited it down into a manageable form, you don't know how much work woodbeard has after filming these series. it must take days or weeks to go through all the footage and edit it down. Enough to subscribe if you haven't, and tons of respect and appreciation for the content (again!).

As someone who can eat seafood all month long. I find citric flavours tend to help with the flavour wall or fresh wild herbs. So depending on what fresh items you've got access to, will greatly help with your seafood wall. Animal fat, wild onions and lobster meat in a pan is a great surf and turf.

The organ with the stones in it that grinds the food up is the gizzard. To make it less chewy take off the inside lining. Splitting the bird in two is called spatchcocking or butterflying.

So I would say, if you can get down to giving yourself 4 accessories.
