Ler has the opposite problem of Tim Commorford, playing with one of the best on the opposite instrument, you get overshadowed. Both of them are amazing guitarist/bassist (as applicable), but with one of the best on the other instrument, it makes it hard to stand out and get the recognition they deserve.

Loved the reaction, David. It was great watching you trying to figure out what Les Claypool was doing on the bass here. I always enjoyed the guitar work in this song and felt Larry LaLonde was always highly underrated. Really glad you highlighted his work here.

Larry LaLonde is so underrated as a guitarist. He his such a legend of a shredder yet doesn’t do it a lot in Primus because he plays what the band needs, not to just be flashy. He was on 1985’s album Seven Churches by Possessed and it on of the greatest Death Thrash album ever. He also joined Les Claypool and did Blind Illusions first album that was prog thrash. LaLond has been on every album of Primus. They had an issue in the 90’s because Larry felt like he wasn’t as much of a writer but they got over it. The Drummer was Tim “Herb” Alexander. I mostly play guitar but also play bass. I idolize Les but you are right about his stuff is easier than it sounds. I know a few songs of theirs and it’s easier than it sounds… He is a genius of a writer, fills, and rythem….especially his rythem is so technical. It takes a special drummer like “Herb” to play with a bassist like that.

I bet the other two must be masters of all genres of playing because Les just does Les but primus has a tendency to incorporate this and that into their songs so having to carry that seasoning of their songs must be done masterfully to get it across.

Oh, how cool is that?! Finally. My favorite Primus song ) I agree its 200% Primusee.... At its best. I can show this clip to anyone who never heard of Primus - to make a best introduction to the Band. Because it contains all the best Primus "things" this band produce. Catchy, funny, groovy, creative and sort of innovative. )

Speaking in infectious groove. Check out violent and funky by the band infections groove. Has some really tasty bass I think you'll enjoy. They're an off kilter side project of Mike Muir from the band suicidal tendencies

They recorded themselves playing at a much slower tempo then they sped it up so it was easier to somewhat look like they were playing. There's even some audio of them playing along with the slowed down track. The drummer suggested that since the rig wasn't going off for his shot that he'd just knock it down and it likely sucked to be out in the heat then to go all the way out three times for a faulty prop.
@rAleksandrrrDunkelheit43666
They were actually really playing those instruments on set, but it was a slowmo version of the song. In editing they just sped it up. There's a cool making of video somewhere on RU-vid.

There's a great acoustic version of Les playing this song that I think you'd love. The cool thing about the video is that they played the song at a shower tempo for the video, then sped it up in post.

😂 LOL. It’s alright. You’re not cancelled. But that score for this song against the Metallica “All nightmare Long “ song. Suss 🤔 It’s about the bass lines. I get it. That’s your kryptonite I see I must say I always hated this song tho but for some reason I hear it now. It’s a damn good song. Playlist The bass rhythm is the backbone of the song. My real initials are DH also. But you’re definitely the Heretic sometimes when I hear your scores 😏

WHen they filed this they playback was at half temp so they could all get the playing right, then it was sped up to normal for the video. As for Les Bass track there's a bunch of people covering just the bass parts with YT videos out there...

When they recorded this they slowed the music playback way down and mimed playing to the slow music. Then they sped the footage up. That’s why their movements are jerky and weird

Great review! I loved your comments on the bass. I remember reading somewhere that they had to "play" for the video at half or quarter speed due to the clumsiness of the costumes. When I first watched the video, I swore that they were wearing George W. Bush and John Kerry masks (and I tried to figure out which politician the drummer was supposed to be), then I realized that this was produced in 1995 and the 2004 election was nine years away!

I caught some footage of the making of this video on oneof their DVDs and they mimed to the track at a slower speed then sped it up in post production to give it a jerky, sped up vibe like old Buster Keaton films.
