Seeing Wendy, Lisa, and Morris Day all these years later made my day. Such a tragedy that Prince isn’t with them. Such a great and unnecessary loss. I still miss him to this day.
Prince was so talented, he left us too soon. RIP Prince. I remember seeing his limo drive by an art festival in lower town St. Paul. He lowered his limo window and looked at us.Oh how I regret not having my camera with me. RIP , Prince. You will always be missed.
Prince was a once in a lifetime artist. We are privileged to have lived in the space of time with him. What we’ve experience will not happen again. I love you and miss you so much my sweet Prince 💜☔️ 🕊️🥲
Agreed………my jr high and high school years was during the 80’s and the music was good and original, nothing like today where all you hear mostly are songs with beats sampled from other songs etc…..no originality for the most part.
I was 6 years old and my parents took me with them to see Purple Rain because they couldn’t find a babysitter that night. I’ll never forget my Moms hands covering my eyes several times throughout the movie, just as I’ll never forget the music I got the honor of hearing that night. That movie and soundtrack will always be a huge part of my life and how crazy looking back, it was the first movie I ever saw in theatre’s.
I saw purple rain in the theater when I was pregnant with my daughter and then I wonder why her favorite color is purple 💜 RIP to a very talented musician 🙏🏼💜🙏🏼
I still listen to the song every now and then. It's so beautiful The melody just goes through you. That effect it has when you hear it is just....wow So instrumentally beautiful. It's incredible. Timeless.
Saw him in concert in 1986 in Tacoma, the Purple Rain tour. I was in high school at the time.I’m 58 now and it’s still the best concert of my whole life. He was amazing. Miss him so much. 💜💜
Prince was a musical genius, I was 13 years old when Purple Rain came out, saw the movie opening day. 1984 was a great year for music and Prince was at the top of the list. #RIP😥😞🙏🏾
Prince is a revolutionary.. he changed his name to "the artist" know as prince is because of how contracts were worded make the artist feel like they are owned by the label .He did so much for music..rock god bless him.. I can't say I can sing along with any song I do respect what he did for music..
1984 was a seminal year in music, arts, culture, and movies - yet Prince rose above and lasted. So much was happening back then, so many artists were making things that seemed immediate and coming with a new wave in the "New Wave" era - and Prince crested that wave and rode it to the end of the decade with his _Batman (1988_ soundtrack. Now we live in a world without Prince's musical genius, gone too soon. r. i. p. Prince Rogers Nelson - may his memory be a blessing to all
I'm sooo grateful for having been there from the beginning. In 1979, the first 45 vinyl record I bought with money for my straight As(I was 8). Was Prince I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER. My love affair with Prince had begun. I was a fan the first time I heard that song. I'm so lucky I got to see him in concert twice. The world isn't the same without him.💜
I beat you . My first Prince record was SOFT AND WET. It was on his FOR YOU album, his first. It was 1978 and I was 12 years old. We loved him because he was the first person to write, produce and play every instrument himself. People should look into his catalog and see his evolution. He was only 19 when he started. I will always be a Prince fan.
Prince and Michael Jackson were two of the most greatest singers in their era. I love them both. The media likes to drive the narrative of the “rivalry” they had. But in reality, there was no rivalry. In fact, when MJ died, Prince locked himself in his room and wouldn’t come out for a few days. He was devastated. There was no rivalry. Just simply two musicians who respected each other.
I remember watching the movie for the first time, I was 14years old and I got to watch the movie at my sister's house. Man! I can't believe that was 40years ago, I feel old! Prince was a great musician, he wrote his own music, he played a lot of instruments and he could dance. He even gave some of his music to other musicians and they were number one hits and it makes me sad that he is gone, but he won't be forgotten and his music will live on! RIP PRINCE ROGERS NELSON 🙏🕊️💐🎶🎸💜☔☂️💜🎙️
That chick at 6:50 saying Purple Rain was not a great film is out of her mind she probably wasnt even born when it came out and is much to young to understand what a Master Piece PR was and is to this day
I was 8 years old in 1982 when a neighbor played her mom's brand new 1999 cassette while we were hanging out in her living room. It was literally a life changing moment for me. I became obsessed, even though my mom tried really hard to stop me from listening to him once she heard Let's Pretend We're Married. 4 years later I made my first money by babysitting my nephews, and I spent that first earning on a copy of the soundtrack to Under the Cherry Moon. I'd already seen Purple Rain about 100 times on hbo by then, lol. Now I'm 50, and he remains one of my all time favorites. I got a little emotional watching this, I can't believe it's been 40 years.
I’m not sure who oversaw the editing of this video but it’s the perfect example of you can’t always trust the media because when they mentioned something Prince told B.E.T. they cut to a clip from an appearance he made on the Tavis Smiley show that aired on PBS. And Prince didn’t land a record deal at 19. He was 17 when he signed with Warner bros. and 19 when his first album was released
Miss you so much. You are simply unforgettable because of your talent, creativity and mostly because of the JOY your music brings to so many people!!!❤❤❤
When i first heard prince back in 1979 i FELL IN LOVE!!! My friends would ask me why Prince i would say he's sooo different and beautiful!!! I call him my husband every since!! I saw him in concert and honey!!!! Cameras dont do anything for this man, he was flawless and beautiful!!! RIP your ROYAL BADNESS!!!!
Wow!! How time flies.. I remember Marcus Carr and I went to the premiere at Fashion Square mall, no money, no tickets, we just asked a brother who was in charged of the Velvet Rope, he looked around and let us in.. Our lives would never be the same 🥰
Wow, I saw a couple of Star Trek movies at the Fashion Square Mall movie theater! But, if I remember correctly I saw _Purple Rain_ at the old Winter Park movie theater several weeks after the premiere. Thanks for the trip to memories.
Saw the movie 14 times in HS - I was 15 when it came out. My dad bought me the album as soon as it came out, and my g'friends and I saw him on that tour - admittedly from not-great seats behind the stage - at The Spectrum in Philly. I had no appreciation then for his unbelievable talent, I just loved the music. His passing is the saddest of a celebrity I've experienced. I'm sure that will only continue as I age and more of my favorites go. Rest in Power, Prince. No one like you.
No disrespect to the REVOLUTION but after seeing PRINCE’S very first tour iteration twice & seeing the latter twice there is nothing I’ve ever seen that could compare to the first two times with Dez Dickerson, Bobby Z, Lisa Coleman, Dr Fink & Andre Cymone on Bass! So much is made of PRINCE post purple rain. So few people got to experience the “lightning in a bottle he captured with his original tour troup prior to! Great Memories! RIP to the best that’s ever done it! 😊🙏🏽❤️
I remember buying the album simply because I loved Prince and didn't even know what was on it. When I first listened to it, I was confused. The songs were long, with lots of breakdowns, and the more I listened to it, the more I knew it was greatness on vinyl. My son now has that album and I hope he treasures it forever. Prince was and will always be amazing.
Hello! I am STILL a Prince and the Revolution fan! I was just at a movie showing of Purple Rain 40th Anniversary. I also always admired Wendy's guitar playing! Sincerely, Shae.
This is the 'Purple Rain Revolution' and should in my view, probably be identified as such today. There was a Revolution version of this band BEFORE Purple Rain and then an expanded 'Counter Revolution' during the Parade era. There could have also been now to think of it, a Purple Rain Tour Revolution that included Eddie M and Eric Leeds AND may even have had quasi extended members such as Jerome Benton, Wally Safford and Greg Brooks. Purple Rain was when I was just convinced this guy was amazing, this was an incredible artist, flat out, no question that was IT. I walked out of the theater shaking. And, Prince, for me, continued to rock me to the core. Consistently. Challenging me, giving me hints as to what made him who he was, what he was about. Prince created his own self contained culture, and band members, dancers, etc. etc. all had this Prince thing, it was amazing. HOWEVER!!! TODAY I have almost NO nostalgia for Purple Rain, especially when it seems forced down my that I MUST be nostalgic.. or else!!! Wendy might come after U.
I’m 53. I feel like I was at the perfect age to have had Prince’s music be apart of my life. And for Metallica, Whodini, INXS, Tears For Fears, George Michael, Hall & Oates, Bon Jovi, The Fixx, Huey Lewis, Dokken, Van Halen, Duran Duran, Salt N Pepa, Motley Crue, U2, etc., and yet Prince crowns my whole teenage years.
Nothing compares to PRINCE. Everything he did was successful because he was true to himself and he invited, challenged and respected his fans. As he once said “the only failure is not doing what you desire.” And side note, I disagree with the lady who said “Purple Rain” is not a good movie. There’s music, romance, conflict, laughs and drama. I love the movie when I saw it in the theater twice in 1984 and I love the movie even more in 2024.
Well, I have to disagree with the black female in this video. PURPLE RAIN may have not been the best movie. However, it is, indeed, the best musical movie. I say that wholeheartedly. I put it up against any of the previous musical movies before it’s time. That movie had such a huge impact on people. When I first saw it, I was memorized. One reason was for all the beast music, and second, because it was the first time that we actually got to hear Prince’s everyday voice. PURPLE RAIN was pure magic! Peace.
Thanks for sharing. Hope to be in Minneapolis again someday -- this time for longer than a plane layover, so I can visit First Avenue and some of the other spots Prince made famous. Shawn R., Mo-Mutt Music/Sacred & Secular
Prince was and always will be superior in every way to MJ. Sorry, not sorry. He's for the musicians and the funkier folks. His entire crew put on phenomenal shows with limitless energy and talent. RIP Purple one 💜
u would think this was prince only album the way the estate focus so much on this album when he had so many classic albums that deserve attention . true it was big biggest selling most commerical album but how many times are they gonna flip this album
