That entire Montreux 2009 show is fantastic. He played multiple shows and any of them are worth a whole watch.

There's actually a second part to this video, which is called Elixir and I think you'll enjoy if you can find it. Empty Room/Elixir live in Montreux 20009.

Thanks for Prince reaction. Motherless Child with the amazing Larry Graham on bass, is an incredible live performance showcasing The Purple One's top notch guitar skills. The theme of abandonment runs deep in this song as well.

The studio version of this song was never officially released. It was a bootleg in the mid-80s, and then he recorded a music video for it in the mid-90s. This performance was from the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2009. He pulled a lot of deep cuts and unreleased gems out for these particular shows. These performances are not well-known by the masses...in fact, Prince's career after the 80s isn't well-known by the masses even though his musicianship continued to just get better and better. I think you might enjoy his performance of When We're Dancing Close and Slow from the 2013 Montreux Jazz Festival. It's a much more mellow vibe, but his guitar work during that performance is superb as well. I don't think it's on youtube as a standalone video, but it's definitely on Facebook if you search for it.

This was actually one of the songs prince did for the movie I'll Do Anything, Prince did all the somgs for the movie but at the last minute they took out all the songs out and made it a non musical, but the songs have floated aroind for years, chaka released the song Dont talk to strangers which he did for that same movie, several cool tracks

@@scottsilverman9948 Empty Room was actually the only song pulled from the vault to be included in I’ll Do Anything, but it was never re-recorded by the actors. (Thankfully…because a lot of those versions of the songs are not great, and it’s obvious why they ended up not making the film a musical in the end.) So many great songs on this project though! I’m grateful that Don’t Talk 2 Strangers, The Rest of My Life, There is Lonely, and My Little Pill received proper releases, but Wow and Make Believe are also great songs. And Be My Mirror was one of my favorite songs as a kid…I heard that song before I ever heard Purple Rain. 😂😅😅

@@smh93Yes ,i am so glad that didnt release the actors version. Years ago i worked with a group of 1st graders for a play they were doing. I also had a few girls doing a ballet , i had an older girl chreograph ot and teach them but I chose the song be my mirror, the girls had these mirrors we made and dances a routine, sooo cute, just glad no one gave me am issue using a bootleg song but everyone loved it 😅😅

Empty room could be all the above, a room they shared, the extra time one has can be empty, conversations with people could feel empty, but in my opinion, it's the emptiness in the heart when love is taken away. In this case the actual breakup (1986)didn't occur until a year after the song was recorded in 1985. We can thank Susannah Melvoin's influence for the many great songs Prince wrote. I love how the song steps up with each verse going from sad, to longing, to frustration, to ultimately reaching a gut wrenching transcendent anguish. Liv4luv 0(+->

I echo everything @smh93 already said. I love this performance so much. It’s very high up on my favorite Prince performances list. The back story is that he got into an argument with the woman he was with at the time during a wedding. He left, wrote this song, and called his band (who were all at the wedding) to record it that night. He is quite simply the greatest artist during our lifetime. I really hope you go down the Prince rabbit hole. He will surprise you every time. A few recommendations came to mind while watching your great reaction. One is the Piano Medley from the Lovesexy tour. He’s finally become known as a masterful guitarist, but he mastered many other instruments, including the piano. The medley shows off his piano skills really well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pazGdwrvM6Y.htmlsi=h9J6wP4hPRcbzutx Another one I thought of is a beautiful song called “The Love We Make.” This version has a beautiful guitar solo. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_RGDh1t-BEw.htmlsi=M8pBcNmCAqwQhHU- 💜💜💜

ive been a fan since the early 80s, own most of his recorded albums and im still finding/hearing songs that he did that ive never heard which speaks to his immense catalog that rumors say there are thousands of unreleased songs in what is referred to as the "vault" at his Paisley Park studios in MN. Actually a new single was released in April, United States of Division. As he did often, making his political points through music but always in a tasteful manner to make people think critically with his lyrics

For me anytime Prince started a song off playing the piano it was just the first layer of the song. He was a good vocalist & always had great lyrics. But his soul & alot of the essence of who Prince was came through the guitar! That was his true instrumental excellence! Not to say he wasn't great at anything else. But when he played the guitar it added extra layers of emotions behind the songs.

This song was written about Jill Jones former girlfriend and one of his background singers. It is a breakup song. Listen to Prince America ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pq98n2j75XA.htmlsi=NaORrxKtRYZzHC63

Jill Jones was one of his off/on relationships and also worked for him. The song 'Shes Always In My Hair" is about her. When Susannah Melvoin was asked what songs did Prince write for her, she stated, "Well there's quite a few The infamous “Wally,” which no one heard because he destroyed the tape. There's “Strange Relationship;” “Nothing Compares 2 U;” In a Large Room with No Light;” If I was Your Girlfriend, Empty Room” God, you know there's so many more"- Susannah Melvoin

So glad you're checking out Prince! Incredible song, but terrible recording and version. Check out the different studio versions. And I gotta ask, what's up with all these transparent videos I keep seeing like this? Is that to get around copyright issues? Can't see the video at all. ?? The video is backwards, too. LOL. Prince is not left handed.
