That UNFORGETTABLE time when Prince invited the PE Camp to his show (we also invited him to ours a day later) VIP in the pit and requested Chuck D get up on stage and spit a few bars..such an AWESOME moment meeting this genius..R.I.P.
Yeah, he’s playing ida Nielsen’s bass here. You can see Ida in the background playing guitar. (They often used to swap instruments during the show). It’s always cool as hell!
Right on Lord! What an amazing gig... You won't remember me but I was one of the DJ's at Red Bennies in Melbourne ... Thanks for this great memory .. Peace
Chuck D spits, 'Reggie Jax', track fifteen off Public Enemy's 1990's, 'Fear Of A Black Planet'. It's a one verse track, short and slowed down, and it celebrates Funk and Reggae. Here's the lyrics: [Intro] Soul to soul, so... I never tried to pretend to have an accent that I never had So why don't you stay awhile Come hear the freestyle The quicker the sticks With the guitar licks Compete the beat for your feet Check out the drum kick I'm here to live for the love of my people Kickin' it all about rebuildin' So all the children avoid the self destruction So long I'm gonna do y'all a favor 'cause I got the flavor THIS IS WHERE CHUCK D BEGINS WITH PRINCE get low, not high, you can't deny Homeboys and girls you'll testify The P-E-F-U-N and the K will stay And make your body sway 'Cause we got that funky beat on the street, on your feet, can you feel the heat in your mind, all the time, you don't have to find the effect of the rhythm in a funky rhyme on your body, on your gear, so have no fear in your hair, everywhere if you could dare take this never miss that funky list of super rockin' cuts that you can't resist on the move, make ya groove, prove that we choose our cuts make you strut and shake your butt Bend your back get the knack of the funk attack Yes, yes y'all, a take that y'all (Chuck says here The master Prince, take that ya'll) And ya don't, you won't stop [Outro] Public Enemy PE Funk Soul to Soul 1990 Ready to roll and all that We say peace Ice T Geto Boys PS - I truly appreciate the fact that these two do this together, as well as Flavor Flav in the audience at the end and it seems to just reveal that they both respected each other.
💜Prince looking fine, sexy, fly jaming & wearing the hell out of his wedge thongs, only Prince Nobody does it like Prince, Nobody is BadAss Like Prince, Dam I Miss Prince.....💜
Amazing 2nd show day after the opening of his Aussie tour in Melbourne! It was more funky, Flavour Flav was a guest rapper earlier on in the set for Play that Funky music ! This clip was for the encore at the end of the show when he sang Days of Wild. Prince’s shows were a testament of sound, music and visuals. He was the master, a top class entertainer and the musician’s musician.
This video is very interesting considering a story Wendy Melvoin shared. Prince invited Wendy & Lisa over to Paisley Park in 1988. Wendy put Public Enemy on the sound system. Prince got very angry. Now seeing them perform together is very interesting
Does anyone know if this was an actual song or is it just a groove Prince played at concerts. Would love to find it. I could listen to that jam all day.
+Michael Crow good question. i'm not sure. a similar (synth) groove can be heard after the song "i wish u heaven" on the lovesexy tour in dortmund. but i think the groove is actually derived from the song "anna stecia"- lovesexy album. The bass prince is playing also has definetly some "days of wild" in it (crystal ball album).
"What do I do?" Prince sways his head (Whatever you want). "I just get down with the groove?" Prince nods his head in exaggerated manner (Ok go ahead). Love seeing musicians communicate and improvise on the spot, without stopping the music.
Love Prince and P.E., but that was a lazy segment. Like intermission music or elevator Muzac. I went to the final concert of this tour and, outside of the Jennifer Hudson duet, it seemed to be a shut the fans up concert. A bunch of Revolution songs just thrown out. Zero NPG songs. None of the newer hits like Musicology or Black Sweat. I wonder if by 2012 he was already having drug issues because I was expecting so much more from the Funkologist.
+rambanita I'm not just talking about Prince. It's like it wasn't even planned. At spend an hour or two coordinating what Chuck's going to spit, and what beat Prince needs to play to facilitate. For the entire Welcome2 tour, Prince plays a song a different famous person each night. Most of the celebrity cameos you can find online for Welcome2 look totally impromptu and are uncharacteristically lazy for Prince. What would have been amazing is if Prince and his crew did Anthrax's part on Bring the Noise and let Chuck off the chain.
+Jason Plastow What you see as Prince being lazy was Prince's way of giving to his friends and acquaintances. People have always complained about the time he gave his background singers and guests. I myself used to complain as well before I understood from reading interviews with people who worked with him why he was doing certain things. You can't interpret his actions based on your own perspective. He had his own agenda which was about giving, paying respect, sharing, paying homage etc.
.My Brain short circuits hearing the word LAZY associated with PRiNCE..just NO...Change your perspectives people....Graciously giving space to others ..never Lazy...the Guy would play 4 hour after Shows ...a Lazy person would have been lying in a Bubble Bath
"Negative Nellie" associating Prince with the word lazy, that's a joke, if you could have done better, why did'nt you step up!!! You seem to be the one with the issue!!
