Rare footage of Prince in a musical battle with his bassist Ida Nielsen, ending up with a complete surprise for the audience. Forum, Copenhagen, Oct. 10th 2010 #prince #Rip
Here you can see what it's all about live performing and passion for music. How groovy they are. And he is the teacher of them all. Purple love to everyone. Peace and b wild!!!
i don't know what to say when i see a short video like that...when i hear the groove ..when i smell this kind of happiness and nothing else ..probably , if paradise does exist , i hope it will get tasty like that,,,,,
Well - the two women who were hit by the bass got treated for injuries to their heads. The security had to confiscate the bass because the audience started fighting over who got to bring the bass-guitar back home 😱😂
They couldn't catch the bass...If I had caught it,I would have left the concert, gone to my car,put it in the passenger seat, and went home crying like a little boy.
@Tony Hey Tony: I don't count Larry. Levi just didn't do it for me on bass nor Sonny (everyone raves about him yet to me he's okay). Rhonda -- I can def. see her in the conversation; she is truly talented. Aside from skill level, I look into the period and context of the music. Hearing BM live, he was the perfect player for the pre-PR through Parade period. Ida -- I hear Larry, Marcus, and others yet she also makes it her own.
Well, Larry invented slap and I think people really don't like him playing behind Prince because he is an artist in his own league. Plus, there isn't much stuff available out there where you can really hear them both digging in the grease. One great performance I would like to mention where Larry can be heard clearly playing is on the Welcome 2 Canada Tour 2011. The song is Stand by Sly & The Family Stone. Rhonda is my favourite player who backed Prince. While Sonny was the nastiest of them all. He's still kickin' it with Cory Wang. Brownmark is a complete character and had the athletics going on while playing the shit out of his Alembic basses. The video lessons he's been putting up lately make my face melt with that old-school grease funk. And mind that, Larry was and is Brownmark's inspiration. So, no offence to anyone, Larry is the baddest among all those players. Also, people always forget Josh Dunham. That dude was the most solid player he had in terms of everything-technique, timing, dynamics, and groove. Also, I think it's unfair to pitch these bass players against each other because the personalities are different, techniques and styles are different. I love all of them, but I had to come in and defend Larry because he is a god in the bass player community.

This was the last of the 3 shows he did and at the 01:54:00 mark Prince tells Ida to pass the bass to Mr. Larry Graham because during the DJ medley, Ida struggled a bit with spontaneously coming up with a bassline. I am not dissing her, I am just mentioning what happened. Larry comes and rips that bass. He might not play a whole lotta notes but the massive hard slap groove he lays down is to die for.
