By the time the accolades for Purple Rain started rolling in Prince was 2 albums ahead. An executive told him around the same time that to compete with Michael they needed 2 ➕️ year commitments to truly exploit albums. He said Prince looked at him like he had 2 heads, "rivalry" over before it started. Prince was a guy who woke up with a music headache every day and he didn't care what the song in his head was for. His engineer reported all she had to do was have every instrument set up and ready to go and stay quiet as not to interrupt the song in his head. The most he would say is "more tape" and she had to do that very fast. To think a dude like that was campaigning for King of Pop status is silly.

Prince is simply the greatest musician to walk the planet

I am gonna say as Prince fanatic, his definition, you get him. There is a feeling you get when he plays and I have never had it with anyone else.

YES there will NEVER be another like him!! I loved your reaction - people don’t understand the genius of this man. You’re right that he didn’t get intimidated by the powers that be. He stayed true to his craft - he didn’t care about anything but his music. He should have been more popular than he was - even bigger than MJ. MJ didn’t play instruments and lip synched on a lot of his songs on stage. Prince said his Mike was always open on stage. We lost a one of a kind 😢
