Prince has no equal nor will ever have an equal. He is the epitome of music. The pinnacle. There truly will never be another in the same galaxy as him.
My daughter (32) asked me what it was like back then so I told her. 10 years, 10 albums and he shocked and surprised us every time. He didn't bother to plan, over promote and focus on hits like MJ. He simply grabbed us by the collar and dragged us kicking and screaming lol.
My favorite artist of ALL TIME!! I truly mouned when he died and where purple every year on the anniversary of his death. There will never be another man like him.
Every year on the day of his passing, I replace my Facebook profile pic with a pic of his for 24 hours. He's the only celebrity I ever shed tears for when I found out so I'm right there with you. Just thinking about it is hitting me right now.
This song was written for a side project called "Camille" where he would speed up his vocals to sound like a woman, this live version has him singing the song in his own voice. Giving it a very different feel.
Prince...truly the GOAT...other ballads to explore...note there's too many to list..."Do Me, Baby","International Lover","Nothing Compares 2 U","Insatiable","Scandalous","Call My Name","Shhh","The Beautiful Ones","I hate u","Damn U","The Most Beautiful Girl in the World","Diamonds and Pearls","Somebody’s Somebody","Sometimes It Snows In April",
Prince changed the conversation with each new album. His style would change, his hair would change, the music would change. It was so exciting. Also this song is about his relationship with SusannahMelvoin, twin sister of his guitarist Wendy Melvoin, to whom he was engaged at the time. He wanted the romantic relationship with her but also wanted the same closeness she had with her sister and her girlfriends. Back then dummies made the assumption that he was singing about a man🙄
My all time favorite Prince song. When I visited Paisley Park after his death. I was determined not to leave until I heard this song and I was in the restroom when I heard the beat drop and ran straight to the dance floor.
See...THIS is why you win the day!! No one is on this YT reacting to "If I Was Your Girlfriend." At best, they're listening to his hits. Ya need to hear "Shockadelica" and "La La La, He He Hee." Try some early stuff with "Ronnie Talk to Russia" (it was as political as he got) and "DMSR" (Dance, Music, Sex, Romance) both classics. Hell, the man never made a bad song. There's just an ORDER of greatness!! If ya want funk tho, "Tambourine" is a James Brown-style shoulder shake.
You are witnessing greatness beyond belief here. This man is probably the greatest musician/performer to ever walk this Earth. Mchael Jackson was up there also, but Prince was a phenomenon.
The very talented, Mr. NELSON, rip Prince, one my favorites song by prince, you have to listen, to the original version of this song, to really appreciate this song. There will never be another Prince.
That is Prince's midtempo magic JAM! As a Minneapolis native, this song brings back so many great memories...from roller skating to has nightclub Glam Slam in Minneapolis back in the 1990s!
Nice reaction you’re right about him being so unique and no one being on his level. He was once if he felt like he was in competition with his contemporaries, he responded “ my only competition is me in the past”
FACTS about PRINCE ROGERS NELSON creativeness NOBODY compares 2 him. I've been a fan since his 1st release on 8TRACK "FOR YOU" the single was "SOFT and WET" I was 12yrs old I played it morning noon and night 🌃 I equally purchase the PRINCE album the single was *(I wanna be your lover) My personal PURPLE RAIN long before the storm of fair weather fans was "DIRTY MIND" this was my *(PURPLE RAIN) DIRTY MIND was my teen favorite way before PURPLE RAIN ☔ I got to see PRINCE ROGERS NELSON live in concert with VANITY 6 and THE TIME when I was 15...I still sorry to this very day I miss his DIRTY MIND tour 15mins away from my house. I was 13yrs Old I hear about the tour because it wasn't advertised like nowadays basically. I seen PRINCE LIVE about 8 times RICK JAMES twice, once with Tina Marie. I seen Michael Jackson live OFF THE WALL tour Don't Stop till you get enough was the single. I seen Luther Vandross with Anita Baker. Janet Jackson RHYTHM NATION tour...Plus several more NOBODY TOUCHES "PRINCE ROGERS NELSON" RESPECTFUL NOBODY was better. I knew without any doubt this was truly a serious performer when I was young. From the very beginnings 8TRACK player days. It basically didn't take PURPLE RAIN ☔ for me to know he was the "TRUTH"🙏🏽
I love Prince he had so much swag... and he had fabulous fashion sense. Reminds me of Elvis when it came to style...I went halfway through your video not seeing the tiny video, then found it at the very top lol 😂 kind of threw me off. I wonder if you'd be interested in listening to another female artist "Hellen Reddy - I Am Woman (Australian TV Special 1975)"
If you think about it, that one line "would you tell me all the things you forgot when I was your man" hits hard. It implies that you talk to your girlfriends different than you talk to your man - you don't let him see your true feelings all the time.
Prince wrote the song about his ex fiancé, who happened to be his guitar player Wendy Melvoin’s twin sister, Susannah. He wanted to let her know that he wanted to be as close to her as her twin sister was. Like you’re reaction to this song. Please can you react to another track by him called, Shhh the album version please.
Just bcuz he put it in musical form yall love it🤣🤣💯 if he wasn't an high paid artist and was just a regular guy yall would call him atleast bi lol if anything Princes music exposes how vulnerable women's minds are yall so easily deceived by antics 💯
You’re neglecting prince’s talent by putting them in the same category. Prince was a master musician on a few different instruments. as far as I’m aware, Michael wasn’t.
@@HitTheLofi Agreed Louis. Prince to me was more the complete artist, he was an unbelievable musician as well. Just to clarify, I wasn`t comparing their talent as such, I meant it more in the sense about them being equal in their superstar status. I think Prince was just as big as Michael, that`s what I was trying to get across.
Hey don't compare Master Prince and small bambi Jackson...Rod Temperton writing all the success of Jackson but Prince wroting himself all his music and lyrics...Jackson never play any instruments but Prince play all instruments of music...Please, never compare Prince with an small singer for youth audience...OK ?
@@djibinlokoydjo2553 I am not a Jackson fan and have never listened to Michael Jackson's music, but the statements in your comment are not entirely correct. Very well Michael Jackson has written music very much even he could play instruments. Michael has produced together with Quincy Jones a lot of music, he could with the studio technology very well from. You should inform yourself before you talk someone bad. Greetings from Heidelberg / Germany
@@dancefloor9032 Bla Bla Bla...No one can writing music if he can't play instruments and listen partition of that...MJ wroting some lyrics of songs but never writing music because he never learn to play any instruments but only his mouth...Please I am player guitar and music...I learn harmony, the key of tone, the greec mode, how is major or minor...Everything MJ never want to learn...Learning and playing true music is so hard...Only an no player melodic instruments can talk imbéciles like you...If mj needed and calling jeef Porcaro, Jennifer batten or van halen to play guitar for him it's because MJ was insipide and incapable to learn and playing simple guitar...Shame on him because when he Was young he prefered masturbation thanx learning to play guitar or an other instruments of music...Don't lie people about him here and stop your stipidity...OK...RESPECT TO ALL TRUE PLAYERS INSTRUMENTS OF MUSIC...
