I don't care how many fathers you know, or what you think is proper for a four year old child. There is a story about the Queen many years ago going for a walk near her Scottish Palace at Balmoral (she has several, it's a queen thing) and meeting some other walkers coming the opposite way. Not realising who they were talking to these people got chatting with her and said "we heard that the Queen has a home nearby, have you ever met her". Apparently the Queen said no then pointed to her security guard and said "but he has".

I am not a royalist but I do think the Brits do it well when they celebrate their history such as the Monarchy is; it is their history and the Queen as the 'figure-head' is part of that history. How do you not know your own child? Have you never spent time with them? Children are extremely different when it comes to attention spans and ability to sit reasonably still. Some kids aren’t ready yet to sit still and/or pay attention for a longer period at age 6, some can do it at a very young age. My eldest I took to see Frozen when she was 4, because I knew she could definitely pay attention from start to finish and stay in her chair. We probably could have done it earlier, too. My 2nd one, I knew he wouldn’t stay in his chair or pay attention that long at that age. He was 5 the first time we took him. The first time we took our youngest, she was only 1,5 years old. She had a remarkable attention span at a very young age. She sat on my lap and nursed a couple of times during the movie. Apart from that, she was riveted to the screen.

@The mysterious Miss X what is wrong with you? For once a teacher doesn't complain about the boys at school as it so often happens yet you want to burry that under a hateful comment. And what's with the stupid comparison of 4 year olds behaviour to teenagers? If teenagers do act that way, then a lot went wrong along them growing up but the problem was NOT that they behaved like that as 4 year olds. I would rather be concerned when kids would not act a certain way as 4 year olds. Acting like angels all the time more than often means they are suppressed at home with fear and violence. As for the part that you think is sexist, well it is quite known that boys and girls develop in different ways. I was an exemplary female student in elementary school yet I loved my chaotic boys in class. Many of them were just as smart as I was, but got worse grades because of their behaviour. Thought already back then that it was not fair. Got the same problems with my son now. School is still mostly designed in the old way (to produce good obedient, working people) and all experts on childrens development will tell you how that is wrong and kills the best in people. Also sitting as a child for so long is just wrong. My extroverted son is too talkative and lively for school, but they also don't like my introverted daughter being not talkative and shy, you just cannot do it right and their grades suffer not because of intellect but judgment of a behaviour that does not fit the narrow window of how a child should behave according to an antiquated school system. Gosh even my sons new class teacher after the switch to higher school admitted that he will once do really well in business after school with his skills and personality. But because of a failed system she still needs to grade him worse and he basically needs to survive another 5 years of school.

That kid was hilarious- but he's four and probably was at all these long events during that whole weekend and tired of them, plus, 4yr. olds still have to take their naps. My nephew when he was that age didn't like to sit still. One day after visiting his grandpa in the nursing home, it was a very hot day too & he missed his nap he was in a bad mood and acted up. Except he yelled and at one point in the restaurant pulled my sister's (his Mom) hair. She took him to the bathroom and had a talk with him (no, don't spank, he was exhausted and was 3 1/2. Just needed a time out). When they came out, he was quieter, played with his crayons at the table, and ate his chicken fingers. Later he was excited to see a fire truck (he was into fire trucks & school buses back then). So children of that age get tired and misbehave, esp. if, at something long where they are expected to sit still, the other two older children (and George used to act up when he was younger) were well behaved, Charlotte so lady like and sweet. Just gently correct the child and don't make a big deal over it. "Royal" children are still human beings (just have more privilege & money) and act just like other children and get tired, upset, bored etc.

I'm British enough to laugh at all our foibles (so laugh quite a lot) but we need to be a little careful it's not overdone on the Royal Family. Easy to target them, they can't fight back. People laughed at Prince Charles 40 years ago when he was talking about climate change and danger to the environment by over developing some areas. Now everyone's on that bandwagon and still want to carp about him. Yes he's got a really funny posh accent, but don't deride someone who's worked tirelessly on projects for young kids and more. You know, Her Majesty does have a wicked sense of humour. She made a few rather scathing remarks, on camera, about your last "president" drumpfel-thin-skin (and the way things are going at the moment, possibly the last but one president of the entire history of your country). Of the countless differences between him and her (the only thing they have remotely in common are bodily functions, and I'm not sure how close to human his are), she not only understands the whole concept of duty, she lives it. Again unlike him, she can also spell it. As for serving one's country, as a princess she did it (unlike #IQ45) during WWII, as a mechanic and truck driver, driving at night during blackout, so no lights in/on the truck or the street. Not everyone was actually capable of it. And yes, she went through basic and lived in barracks. She didn't have any bone spurs (we wouldn't have found out if she did, she'd not have used that as an excuse). She knows how she's got to behave, particularly in public, and that's down to protocols initially written by the government after the Restoration and added to since. She has no say in the matter, even if she absolutely disagrees with what she's supposed to say or do. IIRC she's not allowed to vote, but based on things I've heard, she and the majority of her family would/do vote Green, Liberal Democrat (centrist, essentially) and Labour (socialist) but not Tory. She detested Thatcher so much that she would do scathing immitations of her! So if she seems aloof, or set in her ways (she is 96), that's pretty much the government's fault. At home, she's apparently quite the comedian and impersonator. Pity she can't let loose in public just the once. I'm saying all this, not as a flag-waving monarchist (far from it), but as someone who respects her head of state, who technically could have "retired" years ago, but won't because she made a vow (in her eyes, before God. She's very devout) to serve her country until death. I think she also wants Charles to be able to speak politically (pro-climate activism) for as long as he's allowed to. She and Sir David Attenborough are friends and share the same passion for the survival of the planet. Is she perfect? Absolutely not. Are you? Didn't think so. Me neither. And just a thought, as none of you would want to be - or should be - constantly badgered because of things your ancestors did (and for some of you, names, times & places as well as crimes are known. Unfortunately your GQP doesn't want anything taught about certain crimes against humanity such as slavery. Our schools _do_ teach us the bad as well as the good of our past), is it fair to have a go at her for things done by politicians but in her name or the names of her ancestors? Oh yes, one last thing, she voluntarily pays income tax.
