Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Graphics Comparison (Switch vs. PS5) 

The Switch was the lead platform for development of this game. That's why the Switch version isn't heavily compromised compared to other 3rd party ports that had to be downgraded from PS5. And you can see Ubisoft didn't spend any time or resources on upgrading the PS5 port. It's a bit of a shame really, for as good as the game is, as a result it's nowhere near as pretty as it could have been on the superior platforms.

The switch was the main platform. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was meant to be an exclusive once upon a time.

It's a 2D game. Why impressive? The Switch is supposed to be more than powerful for a 2D game.

@@adriatorres2918 It’s actually a semi-2D game with 3D graphics. There are instances that it goes into full 3D for better presentation.

And the Vania in that word doesn't belong. Metroid did everything first in 86. Castlevania copied the formula in 95 and somehow gets credit for half the genre

@@johndodo2062 Because the term "Metroidvania" was originally coined on Symphony of the Night due to it having similarities to Metroid gameplay, it didn't become a broader genre term until much later. Learn your history a bit

If this video was in 4k you would see way more flaws. Still OK for being on the toaster

Basically only the resolution is different for obvious reasons, the depth of field effect on the Switch is inferior, also the texture filtering (especially noticeable on the shadows)... other than that, it's virtually the same game on all platforms. Clearly they developed this game for the Switch, then port it for other platforms

It's very noticeable especially in the cutscenes unless you're blind

I meant strictly in the triple A sense I have no doubt that 2D sprite based games will look great on switch because its not that hard to do compared to the big company's saying "go big 3d or go home" Sonic Superstars was the last big 2.5D game I brought on switch an it looked as bad as Bloodstained Ritual of the night did at launch so seeing this game look actually very comparable to its higher res versions was very surprising.

Sonic superstars was nice on switch. Just a bit fuzzy. The camera was tedious regardless of platform but I like Santa sonic 🎅. Do hope tales of kenzera zau runs well on switch. It's 1/3 the price of prince and includes a comic so I can wait.

I just really don’t think sega gives their sonic developers enough time to optimize. Either that or sonic team and the other teams they hire to make sonic games just don’t know how to optimize well. I’m still surprised superstars on switch has a mostly smooth 60fps, though.

Yeah I did a side by side between the two in person and the ps5 version just blew the switch out of the water. You can barely see a difference in this video.

They do have cross save. I have on the Playstation and Switch. Unfortunately only one Save file for Cross Save.

Then you need to get your eyes tested. Could you honestly not see any differences in say Hogwarts Legacy on Switch compared to PS5? The Switch was the lead platform for this Prince of Persia sidescroller, that's why there's no major differences, THIS time.

Same reason why it's hard to tell the difference between PC and consoles on RU-vid, except lately, thanks to path tracing. Think about video compression, or the resolution your monitor has. In a YT video, both versions end up looking way more similar than they actually are. Just look at any "4K vs 1080p" videos, and you'll see what I'm talking about. It doesn't have to be gaming related, but, make sure they don't use zooms, because the reason why they use them is to avoid all the issues I'm talking about here, when comparing different resolutions. A lot of PS5 version of games are a blurry mess, but they look good enough for a video. In person? They are anything but sharp. Even using a 22' (very small) 1080p monitor may not solve all your problems, because a lot of PS5 games are running at a much lower native resolution than 1080p. Upscalers, like FSR or DLSS, are not magic. They work better with more pixels, so when your pixel count is so low, they can't save you. Things are kind of the opposite for Switch games. They look worst on YT than they do in person, because you play them in such a small screen that the pixel density ends up being fine. Not great, not sharp, or anything, but not even close to how blurry they look on videos.

Went to go pick it up on the switch even without the extra info just common sense to get it on the portable. It was sold out at Walmart and picked up the last one at GameStop stop at another GameStop and he said he sold the last one lmao. I guess that speaks for itself right there.

@@darrendyson8347 true, I’ve just made the mistake of buying certain games on the switch and when I start to play them, I can’t get past how blurry they look so I end up having to re purchase on ps5. Prince of Persia looked excellent for me on the switch though

@@vhmotion1792 do you know what “certain games” means? All the games you mentioned are first party games from Nintendo, it’s their own system so they know how to make it work best. Try games like immortals phoenix rising or lost in random. I didn’t say all games look blurry

Pretty sure it runs at 60fps gameplay. And 30fps for cut scenes. Could be wrong though. Just what I've read.

@@calsimpson2983 Sounds about right. I also notice some mild choppiness in some areas (I think some of it's around the transition from cut scene). But without the side by side, I probably won't even notice.

@@clockwork204 I believe you could be right. I've seen another review, a scene dropped as low as 18fps, but shot back up as soon as you were able to control the character again.

There's no HDR on any console according to Digital Foundry. Only PC has it.

@@HeroC14 Maybe. But the picture looks much better on PS5 since HDR mode is always on, regardless if the game supports it. As I wrote, it also depends on the TV. Whatever... I tested all three console versions PS, XBOX and Switch and my fave is PS5 for 120 FPS, Quality and details without any lags. But all versions are worth to play. Thanks for the info anyway.

Switch version wasn't and isn't toned down graphics wise. The PS5 and other versions are enhanced. Switch was lead platform.

Yes for the 120fps on some machines, but at least at 60 for all. Even for the Switch docked and portable. Cut scenes are something else.

I think his design is sick other than the hair tbh. Its not even really the hair it just feels like it's the "default" hair they use for 'cool black/ middle eastern dude' now. A bit overdone.

​​@@joejam174I mean it kinda does considering the art style. It's very inspired by comic books/ anime etc. I'm not a fan of the hair, but it very much fits the general vibe of the game. It's very much not going for hyper realistic visuals

Look at the bloody ground..And the textures..

And look at the moving grass and reflections in the water and more props and overall more detail.

I mean is still looks good but it's missing the crispness and extra details.
