I know, Prince Philip was my favourite royal when you know his story. All the language's he could speak and he had a tough childhood but never complained. Love his hilarious sense of humour too. They just don't make men like this anymore, sadly ❤
I actually really liked Prince Philip. I felt so sorry for Queen Elizabeth when I saw her grieving alone. If it was my grandmother I would have broken Covid 19 restrictions and given her a huge hug. That was not fair. I did actually break the covid rules here in New Zealand. My grandfather had a heartattack and was rushed to hospital. He begged the nurses to let me see him and I remember taking off my gloves and holding his hand in reassurance. That and I vowed to my Nanna that I would look after him, when she had passed which was in 2017.
I cried so much as I watched HMTQ sitting alone as she grieved at the service. The was no one near her to offer comfort. Then the Christmas special where Catherine played FOR THOSE WHO ARENT HERE was such a poignant song and appropriate for that Christmas
The most important person in Elizabeth’s life. I’m so glad he was honored in this way. He was often belittled by the press, it’s good to see them recognize all the good he did for love, Queen and Country.
@montalentjeanalain2391 really?? Not that I'd know the truth, but countless videos have painted him as being not exactly in favor of Diana, and that Philip was in general a rather mean person. Who knows I guess LOL 🤷♀️
What a wonderful documentary on such a remarkable individual.True definition of strength and resilience. It will take many years, if ever, for the world to come to know and appreciate the magnitude of the positive influence Prince Philip has had upon society at large. Thank you sir! He and Our Queen are sorely missed. 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻
The Duke of Edinburgh was Queen Elizabeth's rock. God bless them both for showing countless generations what it means to be faithful, loving, kind, and follow through with your commitments. I adore them!
I admired the fact that he hardly said more than was necessary. I could feel the vibe of him inspiring Elizabeth and helping to increase her confidence over the years. Very amazing loving relationship that covid tore apart.
My Dad is 81. He was born in Gloucester in 1941. He didn’t know his father as his father didn’t return to the family after the war but rather just took up in London. As I have watched this it has occurred to me that one of my Dad’s role models would have been Phillip. So many similarities it’s eerie; down to quiting smoking immediacy with will power. He moved to Canada with my Mum in 63…. My mum who was the Queen of our household … and he was my leader in the Boy Scouts where we learned about doing service. Phillip became the perfect Englishman. Fantastic and inspiring biography.
American here. I really appreciate this insightful look into Phillip the man, the person. I hope in time he will be known for who he really was, and what he accomplished. Thank you!
I miss seeing Prince Philip at the helm of the royal family, he was a very great man, loyal to the Queen and to country, a fine naval officer, devoted to his charities, so loving and good! His children was so lucky to have him for a father ❤

I love when Gyles tells the story of Prince Phillip raising his glass from across the room to Queen Elizabeth II. ❤ 😊 They remind me so much of Prince William and Princess Catherine.
I'm watching on Queen Elizabeth II's 97th birthday. She certainly loved Prince Philip, & I think She would be pleased that we love & honor Her Rock. Gone, but NEVER forgotten!
@@maryhirsch7170 We'll never see the likes of them again. Prince Philip was in the Royal Navy, he supported the World Wildlife Fund & created the Duke of Edinburgh Awards - he clearly stood up for those whom couldn't fight!
Prince Philip was related to so many European royals that his DNA was used to identify the remains of Tsar Nicholas II along with the Tsar's wife and children. Such a lovely man with an absolutely fascinating history and lineage. He had a rough start as his family was exiled when he was a child, but he was a pillar of strength for his wife Queen Elizabeth II throughout her long reign.
He had more royal blood than the queen herself. In direct paternal line, he descends from Christian IX of Denmark and in direct maternal line, he descends from Queen Victoria. For this reason, among others, they should have given him the title of king consort.
Prince Philip was one of the greatest men that ever lived. What a stoic, clever man. There are no words to describe how someone who lived his life could remain so kind and upbeat. What a great choice Elizabeth made and Anne is so like him. Bless the late Phillip and let’s hope Anne lives as long and has a happy life .Dear Anne don’t work so hard. Read Jung.
A man of extraordinary qualities. The rock behind the reign of HRM Queen Elizabeth II In Memorian. Good The British People recognized his impeccable stedfast contribution to th estability of the Monarchy and Great Britain as a whole.
So sorry that Prince Philip was an exiled prince who grew up without a home and principality of his own, but fate was kind to Philip, he went to England and met Elizabeth, and he married the Queen of the United Kingdom, and lived a wonderful life! God rest his soul, he was faithful to the end! ❤
It was that hard start that shaped his personality and gave him the strength of character and pragmatism to excel in his role in his and Britain's future at the world's stage. He would not have been what he was without those experiences
What an absolutely wonderful documentary. Well done, factual, respectful, and with the utmost respect that Prince Philip deserves. A remarkable man. Gawd I loved him. My deepest respects to him and all the monarchy... My Queen, my Prince... Thank you from the bottom of my soul for the constant that was always present neither near or far. A beacon of constant. So much as my life went this way or that way? I always found and still find great comfort and relief in looking to my monarchy to help me ground myself. It played an enormous role. For my life? My monarchy is everything to me. I will always hold our Philip and Lillibet in the highest of regard and forever in my heart... Thank you... For your service, your duty!! Long live, The King! 🙌 Sudbury, Ontario, Canada 🙏❤ 🇨🇦🤝🇬🇧❤️🙏
Great Historians/commentators!! I was captivated for the entire video, couldn't stop watching, stayed for the duration. Prince Philip was a very interesting man. And I can't help but admire his thinking, I agree on alot of what he said. I can tell that Philip definately was a thinker! And I can relate to some of his traits; I am good in a crisis situation, and I can be a good problem solver, like Prince Philip must have been. My daughter complimented Philip, saying that he was probably Queen Elizabeth's "voice of reason", so some people might have felt threatened by him, because I have a feeling that when Philip was still alive, that there wasn't much that escaped his notice, and that he could quickly see through BS. (And I bet that he didn't tolerate it). If I may be so bold to say, that maybe the Queen might have become vulnerable after Prince Philip's passing? And, I say this with my whole heart, I feel like things began to unravel after his death. **** Prince Philip was a Gemini, and I recognise the traits in him, like my Gemini traits; a thinker, a planner, a problem solver, good in a crisis, multi-tasking, restless, always seeking new experiences, needs to have choices and variety, not the same thing all the time, and likes to be intellectually stimulated. 🤓
The story of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip reminds me about the love story between Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. History is playing a beautiful love game in their cases.
I’ve been fascinated by Princess Alice since I first read a reference to her years ago in a book I was reading, and I immediately found a biography of her and was really stunned at the hardships she had suffered, even being put in a mental hospital against her will by her own mother. Even though Alice was pretty much deaf, she spoke several languages in a normal voice, which is quite an accomplishment. Princess, and later Queen, Alexandra, was also nearly deaf, so it ran in the family. And, of course, I laughed when I saw Prince Philip’s father, bc I learned where Charles got his ears!
Lol. You're right! I knew those ears looked familiar! I have often wondered how such a handsome man as Phillip could sire such an awkwardly unattractive man as Charles. Charles was not good looking even when he was young.
I just have to comment again and say how much integrity Prince Philip had, and the fact even though he was born into wealth and privilege he still had a hard life growing up without he mother and father. I maybe an American and not allowed to pledge my allegiance to any monarch, but God Bless the Queen, the British Royal Family. I miss the Queen, anytime I think of her I become sad that she is not with us anymore, then I think of all the beautiful memories I have of her and I return to happiness. I would like to say also, God Bless King Charles, I believe he was berated by the British media, where as I think he has love in his heart. Love for his people and for the planet, no matter the Government you know that King Charles loves preservation of our mother earth. May I also say God Bless Prince William & Princess Catherine, I hope to be alive and well when I see his coronation. I know just as I feel, many Americans may not have pledged allegiances to the British Monarchy, but I know just like me we would protect the British Royal family even it meant our own deaths.
He was one magnificent human being. I don't know too many men in such roles could conduct themselves with such discipline, grace and impeccable class. There can be none like him.
And the Queens mother hated him, she had her nose he his business for over 50yrs, and was mean, just look at her mouth, she hated our precious Diana to.
@@r.c.miller6161 well, they just needed 2, an heir and a spare.... they had hectic schedules and still managed to have 4. Your statement sounds accurate (lucky, lucky Lillibeth)
I really enjoyed this documentary. He was such a crucial part of Queen Elizabeth’s reign that’s not often talked about. He seemed really fun to be around, and lived a very eventful life. It’s sad that his sense of humor was always getting twisted by the press b/c his type of personality is a good addition in politics. Good for him for staying true to himself and never being afraid to speak his mind.
Prince Phillip was more Royal than any other Royal. He is the epitome of poise, grace, strength and character. The only person close to him in those terms is Prince Williams, his grandson and I hope that kate will be much of a great helper to him as was his grandfather-in-law was to his wife the late Queen
@@rhondajkestin Of course, Prince Philip was the husband of the queen. They were the parents of King Charles. Prince William is Charles' son and Eliz./P.Philip's grandson.
I absolutely love Prince Philip. They just don't make men like this anymore. He had a tough childhood, incredibly handsome and such a stoic, strong man. Who never complained. Total respect for him. Such a sharp witted man. I found him hilarious too. Total respect ❤ from Australia 🇦🇺
The secret to The Queens marriage to the Duke of Edinburgh was that he made her feel like a giddy little schoolgirl with his charms and she made him feel like the luckiest man on earth.
This has cast light on Prince Phillip as a very brave man and sailor. If what was here about her desire to marry who she wanted is true, what a determined woman she was.
Simply amazing that courtiers and even the Queen mother looked down on this man when he had more royal blood corsing theough his veins than any of them.....
Lovely program of Prince Phillip. He and the Queen were the same age as my parents. They went through WWII as well and I know how all of the world had a rough time with this. He was such a great help to Her Majesty and to their family. She had to take care of the Nation and he was in charge of the family. This was how they made it work and she depended on him. I am sure she missed him so very much those last months before she passed. She is now with him and their Fairy tale romance is still working. Enjoyed this very much.
A magazine cover from french magazine Paris March, 1957, featuring Prince Philip, has resurfaced and it shows that Prince Harry is the spitting image of his grandad when he was a similar age.
I use to love how he. Got. On. With catherine. Making her laugh on the balcony. The queen looked at her then him . Realizing he was the one making her laugh the queen just went back to waving to the people.
When King Charles (than Prince of Wales) visited Serbia, my country, he was gifted with Shakespeare dramas translated into Serbian on cyrillic letter. It was reported that he was very grateful, and he was talking very proudly aboout his ortodox origins, and about his paternal grandmother. ❤
I loved learning all this about him I wished I lived in England 🇬🇧 I missed both of them and trying to get used to the new king and Queen god bless you all from America
Good documentary . Prince Philip was a man of strength and principles . Throughout his whole life he supported his wife , his family and his country . No wonder those stuffed suits and old men in the palace didn't like him but he just ignored that . He loved his wife and gave her confidence to do exactly as she had sworn to do . I'm sure history will admire him as I did . Every time you saw Queen Elizabeth look at him it was obvious she adored him .
He was so handsome !and got. More handsome as he aged. I would love to have met him and the queen. Now wish i could meet will and kate, mike and zara, and sophie and edward. 😊 perhaps in the here after.his charisma shows through even in old photos.
Prince Philip contributed to the stability of the British Royal Family. He did it by being his true self without trying hard. That makes him Great. Love from an avid fan of the BRF in Tokyo, Japan. 🥰
Just saw The Crown episode about part of his childhood, where he shows a Greek passport. He never had one. To be able to pass borders the Danish Royal Family provided him with a Danish passport
It’s kind of weird that Elizabeth and Phillip were so close and had such a strong marriage, yet their children all had disastrous marriages. Usually children of strong marriages have strong marriages themselves.
Probably because Elizabeth's parents had a much more active role in their upbringing and their family values and loving marriage were able to translate to Elizabeth and Phillip. From the sounds of it, the queens children were largely raised by nannies (especially once the queen stepped into her role) and that, combined with factors that were part of the "newer age" of the 70s and 80s, (such as the new spouses of the royal children not receiving much help to transition and function well within the drastically stricter and stuffy nature of the RF) contributed to the failed marriages.
He was interested and curious throughout his life. Very good looking, intelligent and an original in his approach to the world the monarchy and his children and grandchildren he truly gave up his carrier to stand by the Queen. It's is a tragedy that Charles has non of his qualities and is a user in every sense of the word. If the monarchy survives the next 20 years and is handed down to William in due course we have to hope that he grows a backbone.
Charles was raised quite differently than Philip. You can’t blame him for that. Charles has accomplished much with his Duchy of Cornwall and the Prince’s Trust. Charles loves the arts. Theater, music, art and literature. He is an expert gardener.
William is the kind with the backbone. You don't have to worry about him.. just so the maggots, don't get him in the back... The maggots aren't gutsy people like they want you to think, they're are cowards. OR they wouldn't have done prince Philip, the queen and the rest of the royal family. Like they have done. Anyone that don't want to work are maggots, and trash and that's where maggots are found. .😊
On the contrary, King Charles has many of his father's qualities. Perhaps not as obvious as his sisters for sure. However, Prince Philip was a man of his generation that of the silent generation. It makes sense that Charles may be viewed as spoilt. wouldn't you if you'd spent 70 years as a king in waiting? Charles has his mother's sense of duty and his father's courage. I wish KC the very best.
@@charlenebowden4511, Prince Philip was the man mastering the Queen the guy banging the Queen and the King of the Queen!...Charles was not spoiled by the man who sired him,
If all the foreigners who marry into the RF could behave like Prince Phillip. I think The Wales’ will have a much easier time ascending the throne because Catherine naturally walks beside and at times behind William and there won’t be the pressure HMTQ and Prince Phillip had on their marriage when she became Queen.
If I remember correctly it was Philip who said that when you are a member of the RF and you are representing the crown as prince, princess, queen or king for the citizens it is not about you but the institution you are representing. So if you are marrying into the RF and think the people you meet are there to see you personally and to applaud you as a person you will be disappointed and will feel miserable. (Prince Philip didn't say it word for word the way I just did in my comment but the English language is not my native language so for me a bit too difficult to remember and write exactly what he said). And that's the advice Meghan didn't want to listen to.
This is the grandfather of prince William. There was an interesting story back then. When William and Kate were in a relationship, his grandfather said, fortunately, Kate didn't run away. He was terrified in private.
Great documentary of Prince Philip what a good looking person tall and handsome. We can tell why the Queen fell in love with him despite he starts and came from penniless. If I will name a love song for the Queen and shall I say the King Consort is the ' Only You ' by Sinead O'Connor love them from the movie the young Victoria.
Książę Filip jako mąż był zawsze gotowy, aby godnie reprezentować królewską rodzinę. Bo to było podstawą udanego życia rodzinnego i to było podstawą godnego reprezentowania królowej Elżbiety II.
They were raised by a lionheart. He was a royal who lost his home. His mother devoted Christian. Royalty is not about showing glamor. It is about defending the cause. He was different from Diana. He did not play to the crowd. I am Asian and I know this.
Will FOREVER be remembered as protector of and very good chum with Sir J. Savile. who bragged of being a suppler to royalty. British through and through. What was the name of that girl?
WE admired HIM of HIS Remarkable Legacy , Duty to NATIONs . No one can ever do the things HE did . REST and PEACE you will be always remembered Thank You !!!!
He was a great good man. He was there for the Queen and he was not pompous. He was human, gaffes and jokes and all. I felt when he died as I felt when my own father died. He went out of all our lives: the Queen's, Princess Anne's, mine, the UK's, Canada's and we could never be as we were. A big chunk of stability was gone. He was a man.
I know PRINCE PHILLIPS , KING CHARLES, PRINCE WILLIAMS, PRINCE HARRY, QUEEN ELIZABETH, PRINCESS KATE, they are all a wonderful wonderful people is very unbelievable so powerful family 👪 with a GOLDEN HEART ♥ I never saw that to other people, only THE JACKSON FAMILY 👪 AND THEM, AND THE KENYATTA FAMILY.
