Because he wanted too much money. While talking with Morris Day about making him lead singer of The Time (Morris was on drums then), they were considering paying him what he wanted and were like "Alexander... Nevermind." And that's why one of Prince's pen-names became that.

In 1978, I went to a concert in Dallas where Rick James (bitches) was the headliner and there were two other artists with the concert.. It was 1978 y'all and Prince was the opening band and the reason why I went. His first hit was I Want To Be Your Lover. Great song to dance to, dance dance dance, move your body to... My other all time fav is Do Me Baby, which was often called the Orgasm Song and when you hear this song you'll know why it was called that. For me, there has never been another Prince song that has moved me the way this one did. I can still remember how powerful that song was and, this may sound strange, but certain songs can reach inside your soul, grab you and enfuse you with emotions and you just feel so alive ... Yep, this is that kind of song.

I went to that concert in Detroit! Prince turned it out but his first hit was Soft and Wet off his first album For You. I Wanna Be Your Lover was off Prince's second album titled Prince and came out in 1979.

D'Angelo based his song after Do Me Baby by prince. He even says in his song do me baby. The stripped down feel of the song. Prince is the originator of that but he is such a brilliant song write and instrumentalist is that he does most of his songs in the studio by himself. Playing all the instruments and singing all the background parts. Prince is a Gemini so he has duality in his personality. D'ANGELO Plays a lot of instruments too. But he is a lot more laid back thats why he couldnt cope with doing the video it started to affect him. This is prince realms in which he lives. He likes to push the sex and he doesnt have any problem being half naked. Thats him. Prince does this on stage. All the time. Hey im married too but you are so sexy and fine to me. Just a compliment. Yeah, "Insatiable" has always been my favorite Prince slow jam, though many say (Adore, Do Me Baby, etc...) I've always maintained that Insatiable takes the #1 spot. It's the one that makes the (ummm...) "undergarments" disappear. lol
