Sinik...I love you, YOU are a Genius. You take a little from THIS SIDE, and a little FROM THAT SIDE-- and YOU CREATE A VIEW INTO HISTORY... YOUR CONTRIBUTION IS VERY IMPORTANT.
For all the people out there who claimed UTCM was wack, there has to be a great amount of others that thought is was great. I AM ONE OF THEM. Part of what made it digestible was the music. I wasn't looking for Purple Rain II. It was 1986. A whole new era. It was ill that P&TR switched their whole style up and not look/sound corny in the process.
I don't think you'll get many arguments regarding the music. That's thought by many to be his best album or 2nd best behind SOTT. For the movie it's probably split opinion between his fans. It looks gorgeous. That I CAN say.
Boy, this INDUSTRY is COLD, CRUEL, TOO CRITICLE...their set rules; their guide- lines; their loss...'Cherry Moon'...A Classic...Just because it's Prince...Once again...He did it.
From the serious, unstable, mysterious, but sexy character of The Kid to the hilarious, funny, transparent character of Christopher. NOW THAT'S RANGE! I walked out of the UTCM theater in amazement and awe. I was blindsided by the negative reviews.
I am one hu thinks UTCM!was a great movie. It was a funny, well written script, great music and directed by Prince! You know what happens people on this planet is hard to please instead of just enjoying the film for what it was people aways have to give their two cent opinions on everything that someone else does yet these people can't write songs or play any instruments and sing or act! Yet will always be the critic of others works!! I Love UTCM and everything else Prince produced!! No one could touch prince!! Period!!
Susan Roger’s “Hero’s Journey” metaphor is perfectly apt concerning Prince in 1985-86. With Parade, Prince had pushed the boundaries so far - he didn’t even recognize himself anymore, and he certainly wasn’t the Purple Rain kid anymore, much to fan’s confusion. There was just no going back. Brilliant. That’s artistry. That’s commitment!
I've have never understood the hate some people have for UTCM. I get everything is not for everyone but the degree of hate is baffling. I could understand someone saying its "silly" but ok then don't take it so seriously and enjoy what it is. It has a lot of deliberate humor, great music and some really satisfying and memorable scenes.
Prince should have used Kristen Scott Thomas more during the promotional phase of Under the Cherry Moon. She possibly could have brought some much needed positive attention to the film. She was, by far, the best thing about that film. Morris Day practically saved Purple Rain, and Kristen Scott Thomas saved the few salvageable moments of UTCM.
I went 2wice a week 2 c this movie in the summer of 1986.. I loved it all especially the score by Clair Fischer.. Parade is actually my favourite album by P&TR
I would have loved to see Under the Cherry Moon in full color. It was filmed in color and changed to B&W. The scenery, the costumes, the sky, ocean and locations would make it great.
I think what was happening was that the band felt they were in a partnership with Prince and should have equal say. He had to bring that to an end. He would only be held back by the band. He had different genres to follow.
Nothing funny about it. Try to think of it like Godfather 3, every Matrix movie after Matrix and the Star Wars prequels. I planted a reset charge pressed a button and pruned those problematic realities from my brain.
When Lisa Barber took those pearls off and handed them over to Prince I knew then in realtime at 14 she wasn't gettin those back. She said so at the end of a People article about the premiere and date. Another great video.
I STILL say that St. Paul would have been huge had he stayed in the Family and worked that album, making it BIGGER than what it was especially with a World Tour of them, Sheila E, and Mazarati. That was a GREAT album and used LP copies go for a lot of 💵.
@@Sinnik22 oh well even prince fans are divided .. i havent over analyzed either tbh as i was very young at the time i went by the songs i liked ..there's always a critic somewhere 🙃💜🙏🕊
I lived through the era and thought that the Sign O The Times lineup (Boyer, Sheila E, Cat, Eric Leeds, Atlanta Bliss, Fink, etc.) was better than the Revolution and were arguably his greatest band.
AMAZING 🤩 SINNIK! JUST WATCHED UNDER THE CHERRY 🍒 MOON ITS BEEN OVER 30 YEARS SINCE I WATCHED IT. IT WAS A DIFFERENT SIDE OF PRINCE 🤴🏽OUTSIDE OF THE KID CHARACTER IN PURPLE RAIN.
hey there Si22ik ! what have U painted 4 us 2day ?! gonna enjoy me this 2night, but will thank U in advance. U'r really in-deep thats why ur docu's r so good, thats what i say! Thank U Brother. 💜🐾
H ! u put in the ahoy '86 footage, my first show. (was still a kid) had 2 wait 3 years 4 it. Also liked that the doc is centred around 1 year. the montage goes smooth. hardly any misstakes. enjoyable 2 watch as a whole. Nuff Respect 4 U mr. Si22ik 💜🐾
Under The Cherry Moon was an ambitious attempt to show his inspiration. Prince grew up in a time where those Black and White films were played frequently. But, people weren't over Purple Rain yet. They still aren't. That's how timeless the movie has become. Cherry, showed another side of Prince which was whimsical. But, it was very ambitious and needed more realistic visuals. Prince was a Black Man. People questioned his choices of female Actress. There were African American women around. Some were offended by his choice. The world was changing then. Anyway. He's the Artist and knew he had to bring it after Purple Rain.
I read that Mary Lambert & his management suggested more women of color. Prince said that his community needs to see this side of life. Which side was right?
@@Sinnik22 his management was right. Yes. There are people who married and dates outside their race. I get it. But, even Michael Jackson understood this psychological deficit of you know what you know. The familiarity complex. Although it was the 80s era. Michael Jackson still had a an African American Women in Thriller and The Way You Make Me Feel short films. So that tells you the scope of where these two great artists were reaching. Prince already surpassed his own expectations in the mainstream sector. Maybe could've reeled it back in a bit. In the end it was his vision.
@@Sinnik22 You have a point. Scorsese has been known to a hardheaded perfectionist too. As a matter of fact, Deniro will tell you (in so many words) that Scorsese doesn't play.
This happens to be the only movie by Prince that I didn't go to the movies to see. I knew to not expect the cinematic sequel to Purple Rain. Just like I didn't expect ATWIAD to be the album sequel to that. UTCM is far from my favorite movie by him. It's in 3rd place behind SOTT and PR. It was a cute movie. Just not as much of a rewatch as the other movies I mentioned. I've only ever watched it through once.
I loved it. I loved Purple Rain, Under the cherry moon equally! Filmography in order of Favorites, Purple Rain, Under The Cherry Moon, Sign Of The Times, Graffiti Bridge was my least favorite, i mean i get what he was trying to do, but that was out of all of em, it was trash to me, But UTCM specifically I enjoy and even own a copy of the Video Cassette and DVD and sometimes i even rent it.
I had the opportunity/misfortune of working with or working for people that did not know what they wanted. However, they would know what they want whenever they see it. What they wanted was totally dependent upon what I came up with while running the company or the mission. It was nerve racking and high stakes/low reward. Whenever I came up with anything it would become someone else’s idea/intellectual property. I learned so much. I would never want to be in that position ever again.
That should be the top priority of the estate. It would require some solid marketing and the estate has not proved to be very good at marketing new releases. In fact, aside from the box sets, it has done a terrible job of selecting content to release.
Love the positive narratives! Gagging at the whining of the plantation mistresses. Very little self reflection there as to why Prince was annoyed with them.
Wendy and Lisa to a lesser degree fancied themselves as " handlers". Based on their industry pedigrees I believe they thought that their mere presence was pivotal in his crossover. Once you crossover they need to control your surroundings to make sure you're a trustworthy asset.
Cherry Moon was💩. Sorry Prince fans. Now I understand! Dude was tripping. You can’t treat people like 💩 and think you are going to be on top forever. He was one of my favorite singers. Kinda sad really.
@@Sinnik22 Yeah, he gave it a shot Sinnik22 and it did have some quirky funny bits. Mostly though, it didn’t quite resonate…personally I just found myself fast forwarding to ‘Girls and Boys’ all the time. 🤷🏽♂️
I always thought that the movie was a spin and a nod to the movies from the late 1930s/1940's movies. But when I saw it in a theater in Michigan in 1986. The critics thought it was terrible. Some critics compared it to an Elvis Presley movie of the early 1960's.
Too much amazing talent at once can result in this Under the cherry moon trash of a movie. Parade was a good ass album. The family was good. But too much was goin on and dude was a walkin nervous breakdown because he was confused about what he wanted to do and where he was going next with it.
@@nancypatricia511 Right? Shit happens like that when you're a control freak who wants your name on everything and all the music instead of letting people play their part and grow on their own. A thing I learned from Miles Davis.
@@alberthenley2988 N da absence of Jimi Hendrix, Milez wuz next BIG nfluence, dat could give Prince sum valid lessonz. Milez wuz older, BUTT I think Prince started learning da lessonz, shortly after Miles Davis died.
BOTH RUDY🧖 VALENTINO💘 AND PRINCE 🤴 ROGERSNELSON JUST LOVE 😍 TO MAKE PHYSICALY APPEALINGLY LUSTFULY 😍 MAKING TO ALOT OF BEAUTIFUL WOMEN DURING THEIR LIVES TIME ⌚!
i'm so glad I don't share your opinion of it. I'm well of aware that people can see the same thing in vastly different ways but I am baffled by the degree of derision some people have toward UTCM.
@@Sinnik22 Well No. However, it was just the essence and flair of who Prince was overall as a person of what I knew then. However, your videos revealed Prince was a creative mad-man. Huge Fan!
