As a Newfoundlander, I'm very pleased she takes this role so seriously, and shows and shares the upmost respect and pride of our Regiment. I was never a huge fan of the monarchy per say (I can take it or leave it. I'm pretty neutral), but she has my respect for sure.

🎀🕯️ I like this interview it's the best, unforgettable. Thank you Anne. It helps me understand memorial Day. If 720 dead out , it's dreadful, if it was the army boots they should have any-type of boots to do better, big mistake with army boots, thumbs down for that. ☁️🕊️ God bless

Very poignantly told and emphasized by The Princess Royal. Of 800 sent only 80 returned. Those are numbers difficult to comprehend. In 1949 when the people voted it was very closely divided between those who favored confederation with Canada and those who wished to remain with the UK. With so much to be rebuilt and such suffering at home the UK no longer wanted the burden of trying to support Newf/Lab. And the Canadians weren't enthusiastic about taking on a detached territory which perhaps then and now the people were the butt of jokes- Newfies. Two huge Provinces dominate, two others (Alberta, BC) are influential. Then there are five minor ones of little consequence and several extremely remote and vast areas which have little to offer and needs of support which are resented . So why bother remembering those who got suckered in and slaughtered to pieces by Churchill. How could they still have something to commemorate . And it doesn't end as the Commission to take a hard look at Blair's blind support for Iraq and Afghanistan concluded.

Not even remotely accurate! Especially the part about confederation! Newfoundland was the world center of air and naval transport during WW2 for the European theatre. Also contained the largest iron ore mine in North America at the time on Bell Island. The Americans pulled Newfoundland out of the great depression and the loss of its independence to the point it was economically booming. Not only was Newfoundland loaning money to Britain for a brief period after WW2 but Canada was so desperate to get their hands on Newfoundland they bitched and moaned to Britain to keep joining America off the ballot. When the vote came out it was 51-49 between joining Canada and returning to independent government. Newfoundland would have returned to independence too if it weren't for that agent of confederation Joey Smallwood.

Overall, you lack even a basic understanding of history and global politics. Nothing worse than when ignorant buffoons act like they know everything about a place they've never been, let alone understand.

720 men dead out of 800 is a horrible story of canonfodder. Are those army boots ?

Actually an incredible story of unwavering bravery against impossible odds. When the only battle you've ever lost is the one you're most known for, it speaks to why they were the only Regiment in the entire British Empire to earn the title of Royal throughout all of WW1.
