I was surprised they really pulled it off. It was sort of an elephant in the room when this show began, how were they going to reckon with her? Diana is so ubiquitous and almost mythical, that there are so many ways they could have just been fan-servicy or overly deferential, schmaltzy, bland, etc. And on top of that they hired a virtually unknown actress instead of generating more buzz by hiring someone famous, which was for the best in a way, because you don't have the problem of her being too associated with other roles she played. It was a big risk and it really paid off

@@RuangTrailer Many years ago in 1985 Diana came to my home town in West Sussex , she was visiting a hospice. Our school was near by and we got to go and see her as she arrived, she was wearing a red coat, she took time to wave and say hello to people outside even though the weather was rubbish . I remember that she was so much more beautiful in real life than she was in any picture or on the tv.

Tbf the queen is really old now and the crown has got so many people talking it's no. 1 in the UK. So if she was to pass any time soon Charles wouldn't be supported by the people, I highly doubt. He never had much of a rapport with the public anyway. Most people would prefer his son william to be next king over him.

She died on my son's fifth birthday. He's was opening his pressies and I'm flicking through the morning news wondering why they were so interested in that bridge. Then came the announcement. And for the first time ever I felt heart broken that a member of the royal family had died. I hated them before Diane I hate them more now

It was the 90s, social media isn't really a thing, and mainstream media mainly focus on local and American news and shows and we were young kids who are not really interested on current events. I was born in 1995 and Princess Diana passed away on 1997. I barely knew about her life and the hardships she went through until I watched this netflix series. Thank you Netflix and The Crown for creating this series and did justice for Diana's life; Us younger generation have gained much more knowledge and awareness on who she really was and how the royal family treated her.

I truely hope she is haunting Camilla and Charles and the Queen for what they all put her threw. I hope that behind closed drs they are haunted and have miserable lives.. it really breaks my heart seeing Camilla in family photos with the boys and grandchildren. I have a few heroes in life (personal, celebrity, fictional characters, etc) and Princess Diana is definitely one of them. I don’t think I could bring to the world what she did, but even if I can show the love and kindness she did to even 1 person, that would be wonderful

My Diana comes across as a naive little girl in this. No a mature 21yesr old. Oh she's looking down and thinking oh good I'm still the centre of attention. Look how horrible I was treated. The royal family must find the crown rediculouslly funny.

She really hits people in the feels just by being herself. Even though it's been over 20 years since shes died. Literally the new generations are still able to learn about her and see her for the beautiful person she was. I started crying at the hospital scene with the little boy. It was something she really did do. While some parts of the show aren't real this was. My mum who's a huge fan of diana told me how there was such a big stigma towards AIDS and people didn't even want to touch those affected. Everyone was shocked at the time when they saw Diana hugging and touching these people everyone thought to be disgusting. I wasn't even born till years after shes passed but I can see why she was so loved and still is more than any memeber of the royal family ever will be.

She died young and pretty in the era of Disney princesses. I think if she had lived and continued her lifestyle of sleeping around with married men and posing for the paparazzi in her bathers for another ten years she would have started to look a bit ridiculous, especially as the mother of the future king, who was now in his majority. By now she would be a minor royal.

I think the best thing that worked for her is that she isn't a popular actress and she is just starting out so people do not really know her and there is a freshness and mystery to her that Diana had when she first caught the attention of the media. Had she been played by an actress who was already familiar or already had a name, it would have been difficult to pull it off ie Naomi Watts, it was so hard to forget that she was Naomi even for a minute instead of Diana though both played Diana but in different timelines in her life
