@403 Forbidden well she married him even after that huge red flag in this interview and ended up having everyone in her business anyway, which eventually caused her death. maybe she’d still be alive if she’d canceled everything
I usually do that with anything I see on the Crown. However, no need for that here. Watched parts of this interview as part of SO many different documentaries 😉
She was only 19 when she got married but she carried herself with so much maturity and elegance you would think she was older! What a beautiful and kind soul!
No, she was 20, she 19 when she dated and when she was engaged to him. She grew up around the RF, lived on their estates until her dad inherited Althorp.
Who else pauses scenes from the show and searches the real footage to compare? lol Edit: I love how all of us are exactly the same no matter who we are or where we come from. Doing the same exact things as each other. lol. So interesting!
She never called him "Charles" until after the wedding, she ALWASY called him "Sir". She knew the score and what kind of 19 yr old goes for a 32 year OLD man. That's a girl who knows what she's doing. It wasn't the dark ages and she was stupid.
@@JillCosby-gq5uq In the old times, Its very normal for a 19 years old girl to get married. You can't blame her for that. But yeah, its stupid to marry a spoiled cruel guy like Chucky Charles
She knew what was going on, they hardly knew eachother and she still agreed to marry him. To me, that says that she married him for position not for love, so lets not pretend she was perfect. Its only now she's dead that everyone acts like she was an angel
@@dazzzdelux AT 19 yrs old she was still a baby...the family pushed her to marry him and I believe it was an arranged marriage by the Queen Mother and Diana's relative...This marriage was doomed from the start....okay
@@dazzzdelux I agree, the whole time I am watching the crown and going over the real interviews, I just get the feeling she was also smitten by the status and royalty, not charles. It was an unromantic agreement, she was to provide heirs and in exchange have a comfortable life.
I was annoyed at the actor playing Charles the whole time, but after watching some of these clips, I can say that the actor just played his role to perfection. Charles is an actual dork. Period.
Fuck Prince Charles. He treated her like crap and broke her..then stood by while the Royal family ordered her death...rest in peace Princess Diana, the people’s Princess, and rot in hell to every other member of the Royal family.
@@davo9905 are you saying that Diana's car wreck was ordered by the royal family? Just watched the crown, never knew any of English royal history before this so I am curious to hear everyone's thoughts
@@Gabbigeo No, his true love. Camilla was his love. She was told by the royals it wouldnt happen because she wasnt from noble birth (diana was, she was also related to them) so they told Camilla to move on. Diana was the girlfriend, Camilla was his destiny. He pretty much says it all right here, he doesn't love her, its forced on him, and hes going to be with Camilla.
@@melborenspam6202 They separated because Charles enlistment and Camilla marrying other man (the boyfriend of her actual sister-in-law) right after. Diana was an alibi. So sad, because you can see here that she really thought he would love her someday.
He was so jealous of her. Such an insecure man, couldn’t handle all the attention she was getting so he resented her. People LOVED her. And we still do.
You don't know everything that went on behind closed doors. Princess Margaret was also denied of her true love and nobody hated her for failing in a marriage. There's two sides to every story,it is naive to think Diana was a saint and Charles the devil.
You see what the media showed you. A man who spent his life helping people with his charity work. Regardless of where he comes from, he was ruined by the press and didn't deserve it.
Exactly what I was going to say! She was so young and all of that incredible pressure now on her, she didn’t stand a chance. I’m so happy she grew into her own sadly towards the end, she leaves behind such an incredible legacy.
Yes. Too much pressure. She became a wife, princess, most famous woman in the world and a mother within 1 years time. Too much pressure for a teenager.
+Stephanie Schuurmans: She seemed older than her years...I remember thinking she was maybe twenty-three, twenty-four. She was a kindergarten teacher and had been living on her own for several years. I remember being surprised to learn shortly before the wedding that she was only twenty.
+Sherry Caraway: She was *NOT* a teenager when she married and had her sons. Although for most people today, twenty would be a bit young for most people to marry and have children, Diana's age at the time and in aristocratic circles was *NOT* unusual.
+High Plains Drifter: True...Diana said so much later. Their ages were *NOT* unusual. People need to stop acting as if Diana was only twelve and Charles was fifty.
Even if he didn’t love her, he didn’t have to be so cruel to her. She seemed like such a kind soul. How could anyone be so mean to her, especially a situation that’s not her fault?
Yeah, I think so too. Charles wanted to be with Camilla. Even after they divorced, Diana still posed to much of a threat. She was too beloved, too special, too sparkling. Camilla and Charles simply couldn't compete.
Now that I’m older than her, I can see how 19 is so young. The poor girl. Yet she always carried herself with such grace and eloquence throughout her life.
I love her dreamy-eyed innocent look in her early 20s, like a character out of a romance novel. And, because it’s the years before it all got complicated with the marriage. I prefer to remember her that way; happy. (Except we wouldn’t have had the pleasure of knowing her, then)
She was such a mature elegant 19-year-old here I wouldn’t of even guessed she was 19 I would’ve guessed she was in her 20s with how poised she is and her answers are so proper
I think the portrayal is extremely caricaturish. There is an elegance and awkwardness here.. But the performance misses this for attempting to copy and results instead in a cartoonish portrayal. These are 2 iconic real life people and I imagine it is difficult... But it's unacceptable that the actors this season are mimicking (badly) rather than bringing their own to the performance. Off to episode 3 i go
@@krishniarumugam they sensationalized her and didn’t show her charity work or her attendance at engagements in a good light at all. It was poorly written and helps Queen Camilla.
It’s shocking when you realize she was only 19 when all this started. You don’t realize it because she carried herself so well , very mature. She was absolutely gorgeous.
Deborah Bond I wanted to slap the ever loving shit out of him. Fucking piece of shit. I hope he does when the queen does because Fuck this asshole for king. ugh and don't get me started on Camilla horse face. Sorry. I feel very passionate about this for some reason.
@@bodomfucked You need to assess why you feel so passionately about this to the point of denigrating Prince Charles. Do note that during the disintegration of his marriage to Princess Diana, Princess Diana never took an ounce of responsibility for it. As far as she was concerned, everything was her husband's fault. She constantly portrayed herself as the victim. Do you know Prince Charles' side of the story? I doubt it. That's because he was mum throughout. A gentleman would never lash out at his wife in public. Just remember that.
This is just so sad. She truly loved him. And he did not. Incredibly unfair. Her life ended and he went on to marry the third party in their marriage. Just breaks my heart. She deserved so much better. All the love she gave and not be given the same in return is heartbreaking.
I remember this interview when it first came out (showing my age) and that “whatever being in love means” comment really struck me at the time. Another thing was how he proposed and gave her 3 weeks to think it over; the fact that he thought she might need it is a bad sign. Charles actually seems quite upbeat in this interview, and yet he was apparently in tears on the eve of the wedding.
Lennon The Bunny yep certainly a creepy comment. 12 years was too big an age gap. Her older sister was more an appropriate age. Charles did date her first.
Jolly, Amusiing and Attractive 16 year old she was he said. In my Parents Generation and before it was common for a Man to Marry 10 years or more their Junior. The Man made a Future, Married, Had Children and they carried on with Life.. Less Divorce Rates and a lot of Merry Widows! I can remember this interview like yesterday..Holding hands, he must have had some feelings towards her.. It's pretty sad the way it all panned out..
At that time, Charles was battling rumors about his sexuality. His former girlfriends described their relationship as completely platonic. Charles, his family, tabloids were desperated to arrange a bride for him, he needed someone very naive. All his previous grfds had turned him down.
interviewer: and i suppose in love? princess diana: of course ! prince charles: whatever love means i think i can safely speak for all women out there when i say that we could all feel our hearts breaking for her as he said that
Jessica Jo Even as a guy I felt like he was immensely shallow with that comment. Poor Diana, was killed because she was loved more than the royal family.
Kind soul, beautiful inside and out, lovely and carrying lady, an icon still nowadays. 💜 The world, but most of all, the monarchy wasn't prepared for such an amazing woman. We love & miss you, dear Diana. 💜
He never loved her, she said she heard him on the phone before the marriage "whatever happens, I'll always love you" , imagine how sad was that to her, he was talking to Camilla
Maria Eduarda Costa Imagine how sad it was to him, having to marry a woman he didn’t love. Imagine how sad it was for Camilla, having to watch the man she loves marry another woman.
Wtf was that remark he made when the reporter asks I suppose you're in love and that PRICK goes whatever in love means....diana immediately responded with of COURSE !! @@Wild.horse. I think we have no place to say disgusting to things that we know not of. Obviously both people involved suffered. Him for having loved someone but never truly had them the way he wanted. Her for unfortunately negating signs that they actually did not know each other and I supposed an infatuation with the ideals of becoming princess.
@paul k you sound ridiculous. What do you mean she “had no choice”? We have choices. That’s the problem with today’s mindset. Let’s do things and blame it on others. Taking responsibility for our actions is important to grow and succeed.
She knew this was pretty much an arraigned marriage. She just didn't want Charles to embarrass her in public this way. She fantasized that they were a couple that was in love but she and Charles only met on about 12 occasions prior to this announcement of their engagement. If you read the book by Charles's Valet Stephan Barry who was there during the courtship, Diana as his other girlfriends were basically auditioning to be chosen. He said she was very good at not putting a wrong foot forward and when she was about to make a mistake Barry would clear his throat and she picked up on the signals quite early. Camilla helped Charles choose which girlfriend he should marry. Diana, wanted to be chosen so she pretended to be the meek mouse who wouldn't say a word about his relationship with Camilla. That was part of the test. Camilla was always with them during the courtship conducted at country house weekends. Stephen Barry said usually Camilla's husband would drive Diana back to London Sunday nights and Charles and Camilla would stay on in the country longer without them. Diana thought she could win Charles love over Camilla, but that didn't happen.
+Blankiss: Diana was an HSP or a highly sensitive person, so she felt things way more deeply than the average person. www.hsperson.com Although their personalities were a total contrast, I think Oprah Winfrey, a fellow HSP, would have understood how Diana felt if she'd been around.

Proof that even the monarchy couldn’t handle strong, independent, exceptional women. If you’re reading this you know who you are. Don’t let a loser guy keep you from being a princess. Even a prince.
@@katebrady2002 there’s no such thing as an independent royal, they’re following rules in fear that monarchy will come to an end soon. That’s the reason Charles couldn’t be with Camilla, and that’s the reason why they took such a young girl to try to appeal to the general public! Now if anything the queen has a knowledge that is justified by the opportunities she got. Not anything amazing, not a particularly smart brain. Just a regular human with great access to resources and information.
@@katebrady2002 if she was, she would have never allowed Charles to marry Diana. Here after watching Harry's wedding. I noticed Princess Diana & Charles rarely looked at each other when discussing the engagement or moment he gave her the Ring! They only looked at interviewer. Also, when asked about the DATE of wedding he wiped his nose. He must have been uncomfortable w/that question (wishing it were Camilla).
The fact that Princess Diana lived on her own in that big ass royal house without any support from the royal family is quite a big deal itself....i would have shat in my pants three times if it were me. Respect for the beautiful lady.

@@cindythomas5475 no one should be ashamed of who they are or what they do. It just isn’t a proper language to address a woman, who then was meant to be the future Queen. It’s not about the job, it’s about asking the wrong question to the wrong person at the wrong time.
I believe Diana loved Charles but he surely did not love her. She was so beautiful and kind. The perfect princess. He was a dork not to love Diana and he should have taken great care of her. If he had she would probably still be here. 😪😪
I think Diana was in love with her fantasy of Charles. They didn't know each other. ~~~~~ Some of Diana's comments from a different source paint a different picture. She said she wanted to marry Charles because she believed he couldn't divorce her. Diana suffered from depression, low self esteem, and self destructive behaviors including bulimia before she met Charles. The cause of her mental problems was likely her extremely unhappy childhood. Diana's mother abandoned her childern when Diana was age 6. Diana was the 3rd daughter and her parents were disappointed because they needed a son to inherit the family estate and fortune. I suspect when her younger brother was born Diana was ignored. Diana said she felt unwanted and unloved. She was heartbroken as a young child. Her parents fought, she saw her father hit her mother, their marriage was toxic and they divorced in when Diana was 7 or 8.
I agree. With no discredit to the actress who plays her, she's also very beautiful! But, I mean, it's Diana... She had this "light" beyond her physical beauty.
@irwin zapata He certainly didn't love and never respected her though. Maybe he was attracted to her, or thought she was cute or something but he didn't care about her. He treated her like garbage.
In an interview, Diana in Her own Words, she talks about this moment. The "whatever love means" response, Diana never forgot that. You can see on her face that deep down her heart starts to break even though she hasn't actually processed it yet. And the spiral down began. #RIPPRINCESSDIANA queen of hearts.❤
Seriously, the resemblance of the series is so much in terms of voices, clothes, hairstyles, postures and gestures to the real one that as soon as the scene passes I came to see the interview to compare.
I don’t see how anyone could fault her for being troubled or unfaithful knowing the full story. He was fully committed to a whole different woman for there entire relationship, everyone around them knew it and acted as if she was supposed to just accept it and get on as if nothing was wrong and continue being faithful in a loveless marriage where she was literally used as breeding stock & nothing more. She deserved so much more, and she absolutely does not deserve to be forgotten. She was the crowns biggest mistake & they deserve to be continually reminded & ashamed of it. It sucks that Charles was forced into the marriage, & I’m truly glad he’s with his true love now, but it’s no excuse for the way Diana was treated by him or many others in the royal family.
''Whatever in love means'' wtf kind of answer is that? That was a huge red flag, poor Di missed it or dismissed it. She was such light and love, she was too good for him, that family and this horrible world. She is still missed.
Diana said she had said the "Whatever love means" comment previously, but they both felt it was too late to back out. They both felt they would be humiliated to back out of the wedding once announced.
They were both victims. Charles was forced to marry someone who he doesn't love because he loves someone else. And poor Diana who believed Charles will eventually learn to love her when they get married. Both were in painful situation here.
You are absolutely right. Charles had been raised to forget his own needs and desires and to make life decisions based on his duty as a future King. He though he was doing the right thing. Diana being an aristocrat, he though she would have understood that aristocratic and royal marriages were almost never love matches and that privately they would carry on with the one they loved.
His throne mattered to him more than his so called "love" Camilla. He could've left his place as the heir, if he loved her as much as he claimed. He certainly didn't have to marry Diana then cheat on her constantly!
