“Sparrow is taking off.” “The eagle is flying-for the last time.” Will never not bring tears to my eyes. I literally didn’t remember any other part of this movie except that because it came out when I was about 6, and I didn’t have it on VHS, but that line will stick with me till my dying day.
That little sigh that Clarisse did when the pope removed her crown expressed so much even though we couldn't hear it. All those years of being queen were over in an instant: the pain and hurt of losing her husband/consort and her son, the struggles and judgements of being a queen without the "aid" of a king, the sacrifices and prices that came with being the ruler of a country, meeting Mia and training her for many years to not just be a princess but to also prepare her for being queen, and so much more. It was like watching a physical weight, not just the crown itself, was being lifted from her shoulders and she was finally free of the duties and burdens that came with being queen.
Yes Clarisse had devoted most of her life to her royal duty and had always put it first even over her own happiness. She had bore the heavy weight of that crown and it's responsibilities for so long. Now with that crown lifted off of her head she was truly at last free of it's weight and her duty. She was free for the first time since her marriage to King Rupert to live her own life and finally choose her own happiness. It also helped her breathe that sigh of relief that she knew that crown she had suffered and devoted so much to was passing to her granddaughter who she proudly knew would be a great ruler .
When Queen Elizabeth II passed away, and all the kings and queens of Europe came to her memorial, I was waiting to see Mia and Queen Clarisse sitting next to the King William of Netherlands and Queen Maxima. As you say, Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway look very regal.
The way Charlotte's voice slightly breaks when announcing Queen Clarisse's entry and then the way she says they both look very beautiful, speaks volumes. It's so beautiful to see how close yet professional this relationship was, never seemed too friendly yet you can see how much Charlotte cared about the queen and how much the queen trusted and relied on Charlotte. Further proof of Queen Clarisse being absolutely perfect as a leader / boss.
Still get chills every time I hear them announce her as Queen at the end! So wish they would have done a 3rd movie but also it’s hard to top of this one!
As blissfully weird as this movie is, this scene always brings a little tear to my eye. This is the scene that is the culmination of Mia's journey from awkward american teenager to the queen of an entire nation. When the Genovian Anthem comes through it's hard to not feel proud of Mia and all she has accomplished. I like to imagine that her father is looking down on her coronation and feeling even more pride than the audience.
They need a third one with mia and Nicholas happily married with a daugther and another baby on the way and focus on thier daugther as she deals with being a princess
2:25 Genovia, the land I call my home From the green clear summers To blossoming pear trees Magnificent her mountains and seas Genovia, Genovia You're noble, proud and brave Genovia, Genovia Forever will your banner wave!
Was anyone else paying attention to kaptian kelly asking lilly if he could call her? It was SO CUTE! So was him lighting up when lilly inpersonated him at the parade! Also, sabastians voice, damn
Everyone raves about how Elsa became queen & didn't end up with a husband, but let's not forget the OG. Mia did this. She stopped her own wedding to her ex fiancé & took on the role of Queen by herself.
the reason this scene is so emotional and powerful despite it being a disney movie is anne hathaway and julie andrews. they communicate so much with so few words.
This moment. I remember when this movie came out, seeing Mia get the crown on her head has been cemented into my brain ever since. How she went from a girl no one ever looked twice at to a freaking Queen, absolutely amazing. Seeing that smile after she's officially announced the Queen of Genovia at the end, I bet after she was able to get a moment alone she started jumping up and down so proud of how far she'd come.
Honestly I really thought that Nicolas and Mia will get marry at the end but I was also proud that they made her independent that she could be a Queen without a husband as a woman
She would just be Queen or princess clarisse just like Queen Mary was given the title Queen during the reign of her son George the sixth and the early reign of Queen Elizabeth II as the duchess of York would be the Queen Mother and there can't be two queen mothers in England. With clarisse she would most likely be called Princess Clarisse as she is no longer a reigning monarch as she already held the title of Queen Regnant of genovia so there can't be two Queen's of genovia. Mia would be the senior and head of the Royal Genovia house and princess Clarisse would be downgraded to just a senior member of the genovian royal family and Joe would probably be granted a title of nobility as being Clarisse consort as she would be of higher rank than him so he will probably take the surname of the genovian royal family like prince Philip did when he married Queen Elizabeth.
I cry at this every time and especially today... Queen Elizabeth II has died. I was not one of her subjects but I respect her and feel deeply for the pain all those who loved her are going through now. Warning: All disrespectful replies to this post will be reported on and you will be blocked.
She was loved by so many people. It was not just England that lost a queen, but the world. (Plus, can we talk about her sense of fashion? *chef's kiss*)
I do want to point out(Obviously this is a fictional movie and not real) but technically Queen Clarisse shouldn't have been able to claim the throne since she wasn't a royal. She could have been regent for Mia, but technically she did usurper the throne from her granddaughter.
No, you are incorrect. It is not unheard even in real life of for the spouse of a monarch to act as regent untill the next heir can rule, theres no chance she could've usurped because Genovia is clearly a constitutional monarchy, which means theres a parliment who also has power, they probably recognized her officially as regent making it all above board. Also I would point out, it's confirmed the king and queens marriage was arranged, so even if she wasn't royal, theres a good chance she was of a noble bloodline.
@@DonnyDunne I never denied Queen Clarisse was of noble blood. Yes, she can be regent, but regents aren’t monarchs, they rule in the name of the minor monarch. Regents don’t have coronations and Mia still would have been Queen Mia and not Princess Mia if her grandma was just a regent. Yes spouses have taken over the throne from a spouse, but they tended to overthrow said spouse. Obviously, this is a fantasy movie, so lots of the plots are based on facts of actual laws.
It's been 20 years and I'm still waiting for a Princess Diaries 3 where Mia and Nicolas are happily married and ruling Genovia together as Queen and King.
Anne Hathaway did an amazing job here. Best actress in her genre & beautiful inside & out. One of my fave hollywood actress o char sa imo anne ha hehehe!
