A recent study published in the medical journal Gastroenterology found that rates of pancreatic cancer are trending higher among women under age 55, specifically Black women, than the rates for men of the same age.
In this video, Elsa Pichardo, MD, FACS, a Princeton Health surgeon who is board certified in general surgery and fellowship trained in hepatobiliary and pancreas surgery, discusses pancreatic cancer, symptoms, ways to lower your risk, and available treatment options.
Unlike some other types of cancer, there is no single diagnostic test that can tell if a patient has pancreatic cancer. However, the findings of this study are a reminder to women to alert their primary care physician if there are any changes in their health.
