This is a simple print technique which can be easily made at home as long as you have a sooth polystyrene plate and drawing equipment. It is suitable for young pupils with guidance, I have done it with Year 2 up. The theme of this is fish but suitable for most subjects. I do a similar version with Day of the Dead decorated sugar skulls as inspiration.
I mention gyotaku, a form of Japanese printing from a dead fish. I make a similar print in the video from a toy crocodile. In the project at school we make rubbings and print from flat objects like leaves and feathers to explore surface qualities.
In this video I demonstrate how to ink and print from a poly plate- made in the previous video. I ink in a single colour and print, then make a quick repeat print and finally add a second layer to the print.
