I have had a lot of people ask how I have been printing and binding my books through Barnes & Noble, and now I am showing you the STEP.BY.STEP process for you to follow along with.
These books turn out more beautiful than I could have hoped and I am so impressed with the quality.

Great tutorial! I'm seeing a few comments asking about copyright issues, copyright should not be an issue here because this falls directly under the Fair Use exception to copyrights under 17 U.S. Code § 107. It will be used for teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use) and for noncommercial purposes.

I love this curriculum..I ordered all mine printed so I didn't have to have it bound. But yours turned out really nice so thank you for sharing this just in case down the road I decide to get this done this way!We are going to be using NAB starting in August!! Great instructional video. Do you know if there is a reason my project that was submitted 8 days ago for review still has not been responded to? Any current (10-15-21) time estimates for project review, print, shipping? Again, as a retired school principal, your tutorial is top of the line.

Hello, Thank you so much for this video! This helped so much! We are trying to print them but the front cover ends up with a white border at the top and bottom in the preview. Do you have any suggestions on how we can avoid that?

I loved this, but was super sad to figure out that they will not ship personal books to Canada! I've tried pricing it out here and it's crazy expensive with some places being between $80-100!!

For the covers, you should be able to choose Print to PDF for just the single pages, then it saves them as a PDF. ;-) Thank you for this! I Love the idea of doing them all hardcover - like making our own textbooks. :-D

Hi! Thank you for the video. How long did it take you to receive all 5 books? We are starting Oceans unit and I didn't know how far in advance I should be ordering the next unit. I ordered the books from gather round last time. It took like a month to be shipped to us from Canada. I couldn't look at the Canadian shipping info, to see where it was. So this is a much better option.

I'm trying to do this with gather round. While uploading the file it says it can't upload pdf bc it may contain password protection. How do I go about this?

Just FYI, all of the units are not password protected and Barnes and Noble will not print them any more. I was so sad to discover that!

Doing it this way, do the front and back covers also print inside? Like should I take those pages off the PDF I upload so they’re not in there twice?

I loved your video and submitted our request to print exactly as you described in your video, however, after six weeks, my project is still showing as in review. When I reached out to B & N Press via email, they said they can't print it because my requested materials are copyrighted. Any idea why they're saying this when I paid $500 for the digital files to the Gather Round materials? At this point, I'm thinking it might have been handier to pay double and have Gather Round print them for me. Any advice is appreciated for this very frustrated Mama of 11.

B & N Press requested written approval from Gather Round to print the materials, which GR was happy to provide. Then B & N Press changed their tune and said it had to be verbal consent. Again, GR was willing to call and did call, but got a voice mail response. After playing phone tag for a while, we all gave up. If I order Gather Round curriculum in the future, I will pay for printed materials and save myself the hassle of dealing with B & N Press.

I noticed that the right and left margins are the same. How do you alter the pdf for the .75” margin on the inside and .25” outside so that the binding doesn’t hide anything in the gutter?

Thank you for this!!! I’m in the step of download proof and it says “we are unable to display the proof.Please download your PDF to review your proof before approving” nothing shows in the window. I’ve logged out and deleted the first try and started over and still the same thing Can you help me get past this step?

Great info! The pdf won’t upload though. I keep getting an error message and re log in suggestion doesn’t do the trick. Super bummed

I was having the same issue. I finally got it to work today. After downloading the curriculum from the email I opened the pdf in preview then I exported as PDF. I used that exported file on Barnes + noble and it now works. I've done it this was for 8 books so far. Hope this helps.

I would maybe try over from the beginning again with that one and make sure you’re doing all the exact steps. If one tiny thing is off it won’t work. It’s so finicky.

I have uploaded my Asia Unit cover and some of the text is below the blue dotted line (The bottom half of the word HOMESCHOOL is below the blue). Do you have any idea what happens if you just leave it like that?

So sorry my reply took so long I have been incredibly sick the past couple weeks. I am sure by now you have found a resolution, but what I did was just go ahead and print the books with the writing falling below those lines and everything came out looking great!

I was wondering if your covers look more grainy than if you printed at home? I printed mine exactly like this for the NAB Middle school level. I printed the Teacher's Guide and 2 other levels at home and put in 3-ring binders. I feel like the quality of the Middle school book through Barnes and Nobel Press was very lacking image-wise on the cover compared to my own printer at home. It was very grainy and block like when I received it. On the computer, it looked great though, so I was wondering if others were experiencing the same thing.

No, mine looked absolutely perfect. I wonder if they had an issue at B&N. I would contact them and let them know that the quality wasn’t so good. They may be able to give you a return or something.

'Any tips for a file that seems to be stuck in the "upload of the contents" step? Its been going now for 6 hrs...It's in the 2nd "converting" part of this step.. I tried opening another tab & logging out of my account, didn't seem to help. Thanks for this advice/video though!

Someone else just had this issue and it was their internet connection. They went to their moms house and it loaded right up. I would log out of both completely. Log back in and click “projects”. It might be there.

It keeps saying my PDF is the wrong size. When I look on the PDF it is 8.5 x 11, but they are saying it is larger than that. Any ideas?

Open a blank browser. Drag your PDF document. Then print as Microsoft PDF. Lock will come off.

Question, I always have used barnes and noble press to print GRH. Today I went to print at barnes and noble press (after purchasing Space) and it wouldn't upload the pdf. Now there seems to be a password protection on it. Are you having any issues?

Maybe we missed the memo. It would’ve been nice to know GR put a password protection in place. I went with the homeschool printing company. The prices are okay but I have to wait 3-4 weeks for delivery.

@@Andrew_McDiarmid All I was told is they put a password protection on their products and Barnes isn't compatible anymore. It was truly a bummer and left a lot of us scrambling to find another place to print.

I actually DID set up TGATB handwriting through B&N press but I decided instead to have them top coiled through staples just so I wouldn’t have ANY issues with the spine.

Make sure you’ve download the PDF and you should be able to just go to staples and upload it. Then you can choose how you want it bound.

Hello this was so very helpful. I am using TGTB and after uploading it says page needs to be 8.5x11 which I set at the beginning, however the actual pdf pages are larger. Do you have any tips on how to resize the pdf

If you resized the entire pdf then I must have missed it.The entire TGTB file pages are larger than 8.5x11. docupub will not allow you to upload that big of a file to be resized.

Sorry, I meant to show that in the video, so if you open the book and push down on the spine, they stay open. But not like if it were spiral bound if that makes sense? For me, it will be fine for my kids and it isn't going to be a problem.

If you save them to your desktop as a pdf I would try to go to the resize document section in the video and make sure the size is correct.

So, how does this work with copyright? I have digital files from other homeschool publishers and some form Scholastic. What are the rules with printing someone else's materials?

If you purchased the materials you should have a purchasing agreement saying you can print for your own personal use. Like I can print this for MY family, but I could not print multiple copies and sell them.

They don’t ship outside of the US. Wish I had known prior to creating all of my kids and teacher books. Barnes and Nobles ships internationally, but not Press. ☹️

Oh no I'm so sorry. I had no idea. That's unfortunate that they will ship from the store but not from press. I'll add that to my description and any further video I may do on printing through press. Thank you for bringing my attention to that.

World of Washabaugh my fault for not being more thorough. I found Lulu will do it for a comparable price and they ship internationally. Books for one unit were ready in just a couple of hours for me to purchase, but I can’t customize as much as B&N Press. Regardless, still happy I can create the books for a lower cost. Thank you for the video and idea!
