Just discovered the lap steel world. Thanks for providing all the fretboard templates. Bought them and downloading right now! They are quite nice looking. Thanks again for doing the work for the rest of us mere mortals.

Nifty played song... love that ol' country music. Probably wore out some shoe leather dancing to that song alone...

I loved the tune. Was it played on a lap steel or on a pedal steel guitar?

Hi Dick. I'm thinking of building a short scale lap steel guitar in the shape of a fender telecaster but with 17 inch scale. Based on all your experience - what scale length would you use? I like the shorter scales so it's easy to transport to gigs. I usually ride my motorcycle. Thanks for your reply on which scale would be the best for my situation.

I really don't know how it would sound and play as the shortest scale length I have ever played was 22 inches. I wish I could be more help. Good luck with your project and have fun!

@@rzsdad1 I'm using 24.5" boards because that's what my dobros have, and I'm kind of used to the size. Some people think that the longer string length gives more resonance to the sound, but I don't know if that's the case or not. Of course, the fact that you are going via motorcycle kind of limits the size of what you can carry safely.

I would like to buy fretboards with different "scales"; because I want to build laptop steel guitars. But striked out. Oh Well. There SHOULD be someone that can make ANY scale within "36" inches for a customer. I KNOW the formula*; to mark them on a board, but why not have someone that would make a myriad of different scales? Huh? * Musical Scales=the 12th root of the digit 2; which equals 1.059463094. Which is a factor that is the difference from each fret to the end of the scale, divided by that number. Then keep dividing and each distant will be where the frets are suppose to be. Example: 24" scale. Divide that factor into 24. It equals exactly 22.6529835" (23rd fret). Then do it again,; 21.38156924" (22nd fret); and again and again until you have 24 fret positions; from the end of the scale (24th fret) to the nut. A CNC machine can deal with THAT factor and thus the frets will be absolutely "dead-on". But one could use just 2 or 3 digits behind the decimal point and the frets will be very close. For what it's worth.

I cover everything from 21" to 24.25" scales? Guess I don't quite understand your comment? Either way it sounds like you are fully capable of making your own.

@@rzsdad1 What I meant was I know the mathematical formula in marking frets accurately on a fretboard. But I have no way to make those nice fretboards like you do kind Sir. Thanks for responding to my comment.
