How on earth could he scream like that every night and perform with such high tension? It must have exhausted him. I can see why he won the Tony Award.
I find this crazy how different Andrew’s acting in this is, it’s nothing like I’ve seen on anything before. It’s so different to anything he’s done before, it really shows his acting skills
I think part of it is the mediums of theatre and film or television. He's usually in movies so they can get close-ups of nuances emotions. But on stage, you gotta ramp it up because the audience can only see and hear so far. But the character (or his interpretation of the character) is also very... unhinged lol
nah, even for stage acting this is completely cringe and OTT. he was so out of place next to the rest of the company. Not to mention an offensive portrayal of a gay man
@@jenniferlawless3565 His character was written to be the very stereotype of a gay man. One of his lines even literally calls himself stereotypical. I mean, wasn't this play written by a gay man to begin with? It's not offensive. There are indeed gay men that act this way, and of course there are those that don't. What WOULD be offensive is to intentionally leave out characters that act this way as if trying to erase a real person's existence. Yes, it's a stereotype, but stereotypes can be true to an extent. Some gay men do act this way. Not to mention Garfield's portrayal of it is even MORE played up due to the fact that this is stage acting. It has to be exaggerated to an extent.

@@aarushiarora2458 it’s on National Theater at home. You need to pay to see it either a monthly subscription or individually renting it. But since it’s in two parts it’s probably cheaper to buy a one month subscription.
It was definitely a little hard to follow; the storyline is very complex and metaphorical. Also if you're not familiar with the aids crisis and politics of the time that adds the confusion. I recommend watching interviews of Andrew and the cast. They explain the play and their characters very well and it helped me understand it better.
@@tigrrlily2569 thank you so much for this! Some of the stuff flew way over my head. I have a semi grasp on the aids crisis but I don’t know much about the political landscape of the Regan era except they were really pushing Christianity and family values.
i also very much recommended reading the script book. it has stage directions and gives context to what’s going on. it helped me understand a lot about some of the parts i was confused about
Nah, it really isn't. Can't talk for everybody but if a straight ally played a bi ace woman (like me) in such beautiful way I would only be happy about it
as a member of LGBTQ i am pretty happy with his performance 💫 and either way, as mentioned he is comfortable and even he helped fighting for a bi spider-man so this man deserves this role
