Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla is the antithesis of Baz Luhrmann’s terrible Elvis movie.
We discuss Coppola’s sad-core storytelling, her determination never to leave Priscilla’s side, and her absolutely damning portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll.
We also talk about Cailee Spaeny’s central performance as Priscilla, Jacob Elordi’s menacing turn as Elvis, and the movie’s delicate handling of their very complex relationship.
But we also wonder if Coppola’s emotionally distant direction might have made the stirring true-life story a little unaffecting.

I would like to know HOW you guys think Elvis was abusing her. I don't see anything wrong that he did to her. You guys completely ignore the fact that Elvis and Priscilla were separated for most of her teenage years, and that she did not come to live with him until she was two months short of 18. While they were separated she dated a whole slew of other guys, going steady with at least one. She had plenty of time to realize "who Elvis was" or anything else about any relationship she would have with him. When she did come to live with him when she was two months short of 18, she was supposed to live with his father Vernon and his wife Dee. Elvis was out of town for three months. Priscilla and Dee did not get along, so while Elvis was gone, Priscilla moved herself into Graceland and stayed in the room with Elvis' aunt Delta until Elvis got back. When Elvis got back Priscilla was 18 years and 1 month old. There was no molesting her while she was underage as the movie depicts, or any of many things in the movie that make Elvis look like an abuser. Priscilla has herself said that over and over and over. The movie does not stick to the book. It has been changed in many ways to make Elvis look like an abuser.

No it was not like what happened with Micheal Jackson. Elvis did not molest Priscilla when she was under age. The movie makes it look that way, but Priscilla has said over and over that he did NOT.
