I like after the spray, the colors look more vivid.

The Spectrafix is natural milk protein and doesn’t darken the pastels and there is a workable Degas fixative and a final fixative and it can be sprayed inside. I have studied many many fixatives if you put the spray in a Flairosol mister then they don’t show any droplets. That’s why it’s spitting because you need to put it in a mister then no droplets and you can even saturated your painting and it doesn’t darken. They do sell the mister Flairosol sprayers at Hobby Lobby or directly from the company. The owner is so nice she probably would forward you one. It really is the most used by pastelists in most of my groups. Might wanna give it a try and yes it is completely safe to spray inside cause it’s casein milk protein. I have Nupastels and they work well with my Schminke, Unison, Richesons and good ol Rembrandt’s. I love pasteling. I use Clear Art Spectrum pastel primer on watercolor 140lb paper and Pastelmat. Also it’s beautiful over watercolor with using a bit of fixative just to let some softness in. I also use pastels in my colored pencil backgrounds cause it saves my pencils. Enjoy your Nupastels. Krylon gave me asthma attacks and after really comparing it when I figured out that I needed the droplet diffuser and trying others I kept returning to what didn’t darken my paintings. And my favorite color that I collect in pastels is green, every green but purple is very close. They are in 5 large drawers by color value and tone in blues and bluish purple s, yellow/brown, reds and red violets and pinks, green and turquoise, orange and skin tones to browns, neutrals. I have the pastel pencils and enjoy them too. They are great for detail and I collected a few sets and use them many times with watercolor. As you know one can just wet their pastels and they are like paint but a little chalky. Just adding gum Arabic to them would be like making cheap chalky watercolor but to use them wet or as an alcohol wash works for an underpainting.

I have had the full set for quite a while. Great for underpainting pastel art and also for detail (a must for portrait). THEY ARE AWESOME! They melt even better with alcohol than with water. Great review..always good to see art supplies used in other ways!

The Spectrafix is the best one ever. It doesn't discolour your work and it works really well. It is also the best one for your health and I feel safe enough to spray it in my closed room with pet birds in the house as well as a cat. You need to put it in a continuous mist bottle such as Flairosol (one that hairdressers use) and it will be a game changer! :)

Thanks so much for this specific video. I got a 96 set off of Facebook marketplace for $25 to use them for backgrounds. I love my Prismacolor pencils and the price was great but I was not really ready for the dust. Now I am amped to try them with my matte medium. Thanks again.

Your pastels swatched nicely. I didn't know that Prismacolor had pastels. They turned out really pretty when you colored with them. Adorable Bird is so cute! Thanks for the free download. Oh my gosh, I have to tell you how much fun this was, I thought you were talking about pastel “pencils”, not “chalk” pastels, LOL!!!. I love Prisma colors. It made me giggle all through the video when I realized my error, Bahahaha 😂🤣🤪. It was so much fun. I had such a great time following along on the video. I am planning a fun little competition with my grandchildren and myself. I have printed off 9 copies of your adorable little bird (1 for each one of use) and then we can each use the Prisma Pastels to color them and then whatever accents we would like from my supplies to accent them. No names on each page and mom and dad will be the impartial judges. The age range is 5 to 19 (not counting grandmas age, lol). This is going to be so much fun, thank you for the cute little birdie we get to use. My grandkids have always loved using my art supplies and I have always loved their creativity with them, lol, so much fun. CANT WAIT, for the Prisma pastels to get here, thank you.

What is that beautiful art hanging above Miss Rose? Did I miss a video? P.S. thank you so much for educating me. I found your channel in February and quickly became a Bliss Partner. I have ordered 4 of your books (Prismacolor tri-tone workbook, custom coloring book with 20 additional pages, the quick color picker, & Mandala Bliss volume 5 with your new black paper). I have spent many hours practically every single day binging all your RU-vid videos and all your tutorials and workshops. I also follow along on your Facebook groups. Though I am still very new to the world of coloring, pretty much everything I have learned in these past several months is a direct result of you. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2003 at the age of 22 y/o (I just had my 40th birthday yesterday 👵🏼 lol) and was diagnosed with major chronic depression when I was 16 y/o. Along these many, many years of living with all (anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, severe OCD, migraines, thyroid problems, just to name a few in addition to my MS and depression), I’ve also had several life-changing events and 2 divorces from 2 cheating husbands (each a marriage gave the best gift ever of a beautiful child). Things have been extremely difficult since 2017 when my 2nd ex left and disowned my daughter from my 1st marriage that he had raised as his own since she was 3 y/o since her biological father is a deadbeat (owes $90K in back child support) and never wants to spend time with her. When my 2nd ex left, he left me and both my kids. Thankfully, he decided to get back in our son’s life (probably because of his parents’ doing), but he refused to have anything to do with my daughter. Obviously he has no financial obligation for her, but he still could have spent time with her. He knew what she has gone through with the absence of her biological father and swore he would never do that to her. Well, obviously his promises were complete lies since he was having a 2 & 1/2 yr affair with his co-worker before he left our family. Not only did he disown her, he had his entire family and nephews do the same, but the most devastating thing is separating our son and my daughter. Our son had just turn 6 y/o and my daughter was almost 12 y/o and they were the best of friends. They spent 98% of our son’s live together and was even allowed to tag along with her friends. Now they only get to see each other 50% of the time since we share 50/50 custody of our son (I have full legal and physical custody of my daughter. She got into art a couple years ago and had her first true art class this year as a freshman. It seems to help her depression a lot. She has tried teaching me things, but I’m so not artistic or creative. When I found you, I showed her some of your tutorials and workshops. She was beyond excited and said she wished you had been her art teacher because you explain everything so well and easy to understand. I completely agree! She now uses your website all the time too. Though I don’t have the money to pay for her own membership like I would love to do, I can’t. I don’t get child support from her father and am living off of a very small amount of temporary alimony that ends in a couple years. My Multiple Sclerosis has progressives aggressively since 2014, which wasn’t a financial issue since my then-husband had requested I be a stay-at-home mom when my daughter was 4 y/o and we moved to FL, away from both our families. Unfortunately, that leaves me with not having a paying job since the end of 2009, meaning I do not qualify for disability (which I completely do meet every medical requirement for several of my medical conditions) because I don’t have enough work credits in the last 10 years. I can’t work now because nobody wants someone who suffers from al my MS symptoms (neuropathy in both feet and dominant hand, extreme fatigue, memory problems, balance issues, vertigo, nausea and vomiting constantly, cognitive issues, spasticity, tremors, no muscle mass, and speech problems). I’m “unreliable and a huge risk” to them. Point is, thank you for helping my daughter 💕, for educating me and providing a distraction to the stress of this world and my life, and for being my happy place, allowing me to not necessarily forget all the bad things in my life and health.

Pastels wouldn't be pastels if these sticks aren't broken! I had purchased a small box of Neocolor Ii and broke them in half (like a dork). I was using them as underpaintings for my landscapes. I can't wait to buy a larger set and NOT break them so I can use with my pencil work all you lovely people are teaching me about

Krylon Fine Art Final fixative works best I think. Though I think I have all those you hand sitting there. Casein (spectra fix) works best when put in one of those fine mist spray bottles (pump handle creates continuous spray). They use them in hair salons. Jason Morgan did a you tube info thing on them. Also, ClaireFontaine came out with a new spray that really works shockingly well.hard to get in US though. I just use PastelMat...it really grabs that pastel and I work with a lot of soft ones (sennier, unison, Terry Ludwig, etc). Oh yes...and a better low odor fixative is Blair (green label...says low odor). So there is way more pastel fixing knowledge than you wanted (lol). Yes, it's safe to say, pastel is my first love. Never thought of it for a coloring book/page Hmm.

Thank you so much for sharing this information. I’m curious are any of those painting effects like with the water and acrylic medium can those be done with the little half stick pastels that you showed as well (the ones you took out of the cabinet) or are those technique specific to the nupastels? Thank you so much
