I think certain inmates should play golf. It would be a great program for a select small group of inmates that were deserving. Other prisons could follow suit. A new kind of PGA. Prison Golf Association.
too bad i think it would serve as rehabilitation, health, and acquiring skills and civility, they could earn rounds of golf for days worked. that aligns with how society functions. its an opportunity to bond with a sport and love something which is attainable on a low wage outside of prison.
@Ol Hornytoad where is the rehabilitation aspect in all of our prisons, and in the world there are prisons that allow a lot of activities, it would be beneficial to know what promotes less repeat offenders. any insight?
@Enlightened ☀️ You become a monster if you are handled like one, countries that focus on rehab instead of punishing has the lowest numbers when it comes to inmates being back in jail after release.
Two ways to look at this. Dude works hard yet never gets to play. Flip side, this person murdered your family member and now you hear they are playing golf
You do a fantastic job of letting people talk, and making the interview about them. You could interview a rock and somehow make it the center of attention.
Agreed..TOO many channels have the creator not be able to have the attention not be on them. Glad to find a creator who doesn't have an ego that needs to be highlighted every 2 minutes
As a Louisiana resident, I’ve visited Angola plenty of times for the Angola Rodeo. I’ve never gotten to see most of the golf course, but the few holes I’ve seen along with just the landscape of the prison itself is beautiful. And a side note, the prisoners sell a lot of the artwork they make throughout the year at the rodeo, and it’s crazy how talented most of them are. Probably spent over $1000 just in woodworkings, wallets, and other stuff they’ve made over there.
Working 2 cents an hour and “aint allowed to play no country club sports.... can’t let that get out.” Damn near a line there, Lincoln apparently didn’t accomplish shit
As someone who loves to play golf that would be a living hell if I ended up in a prison where I not only helped build but also maintained such a beautiful course and then was never able to play it.
I wonder what the re-incarnation rate is for people released from this prison. If it’s lower than the average then it’s an effective program, if not it’s modern day slavery.
I think the Golf course should be used as an incentive for good behavior. Examples, prisoner gets their GRE let them play a round, if the prisoner works a job in the prison and has stayed out of trouble since being there let them play once a month or something. I'm sure its been thought of already, and I sure as hell don't know how to run a prison better than a warden. Just my 2 cents
Let’s say a dude kills your parents, gets life sentence. Then you hear a few years later he plays a round of golf every month. I’m sorry but this is a punishment and the reward is you get to go out side and not be locked up. Sounds like a win to me
I've been a long time skier, and just recently pucked up golf. I'm convinced that both sports or activities can be excellent parallels for life. I think a great many of the more peaceful inmates could benefit from walking 18. It's those things that are easy to pick up and near impossible to perfect. But you can get damn close! If you're good and spend enough time with it. It's always infront of you, but you'll never reach it. They also teach you that setbacks and adverse conditions are part of life, and in no way personal towards you. My dad always said you're closer to God on a mountain anyway. He was a ski instructor for alot if years
This is sick and a great idea. Sucks a bit that non of the prisoners maintaining the course cant play. I think they should have something like once a month or bi weekly where they get to play (the select few that are min security etc)
You haven't seen some of the courses I've played in rural Maine then. This course looks more than acceptable for what it is. Spoiled brats expect tour conditions on every course?
I can’t even lie, this course is nicer than most of our public courses where I live. It’s a great concept, with the rehabilitation process some of these guys need. But I do believe a round of 3 or even 9 would help with clearing of the mind. Just an OP
That guy talking about the murderer getting a second chance with the knowledge of what it takes to work is very deep. He’s a good guy and really wants to do good for these inmates.
Being a tax payer. I feel they put the work in at 2 cents an hour to 20 cents an hour if they choose to spend it playing a round if golf let them. It is a sport of discipline right. Let them learn discipline.
Man, I know they’ve made their mistakes in life, but I wish the best for the groundskeeper and all the other people in the prison systems who have done their best to turn their life around
I wish the UK had some prison governors with the vision of this one, impressive and shows what can be done with some integrity, foresight, vision and pragmatic good sense.
Inmates should be able to play, if you look at how other countries manage their jails with rehabilitation programs, I think this golf course could be the start to changing our jails to rehabilitate not contain inmates.
Unfortunately in America there is hardly any focus on rehabilitation in the prison / jail systems. Don't know exactly how without giving it some serious thought but golf could be a great tool to achieve just this.
They aren't in chains, asshole. No one can escape from Angola. It's surrounded by swamp. There's no need for chains. But I guess you don't know that white folks got sent to the work farms, too, did you? Or maybe that doesn't fit your agenda?
Seenya59 Getting awfully defensive there, boss. Did I strike a chord? “Chains” doesn’t literally mean steel links, it’s a metaphor for being bound against their will, but I didn’t think I’d actually have to spell that out. And okay, white people worked farms too, do you really think the treatment of white people and social attitudes towards poor whites were the same as for blacks? If you say yes, you’re being intentionally dense or (more likely) you’re just good ole fashioned racist. When I see this image, I see the paradox of having a supposedly equitable society while the prison population is overwhelmingly black, and those who profit from the system are overwhelmingly white. You see it as an excuse to say “hurrr durrrr but white people worked farms too!!!!” even though that’s obviously not the salient point. You’re the one with the agenda.
I was kind of digging the story until I found out the inmates couldn't play. Golf teaches integrity. Let them play. It's like baking a cake and not getting a bite. F'd up. I'd still play the course if I could....looks fun!
I always thought a golf course might be a good thing for a prison. I didn't know one actually existed. It seems like a good thing to rehabilitate certain people.
This comment section is full of people saying the inmates should be able to play golf. It isn't called a "Golf Ball Relocator" it is called a "Golf CLUB". You want inmates to have access to a weapon...that's not smart my dudes.
