Interesting how Ian Smith (Ted Douglas) was involved in writing, acting and even playing drums, synth and music composer which was quite prominent on this episode.
Very poignant words Janet say's to Steve ( considering he died so very young) " He squandered health in search of wealth, To gold became a slave; Then spent his wealth in search of health, but only found a grave" that is what she said to him, it's from a poem from a gravestone I read.
I can't believe it myself how they wrote Judy and Doreen out of the show. Was Lizzie written out too? and Bea is still in the hospital. There was no fanfare about Judy and Doreen being written off the show just like that. It truly will not be the same with out them and there was plenty of material for their characters too. Talk about jumping the shark! It was bad enough that they wrote Vera out of the show and I haven't seen the writer Denise Morgan writing any scripts lately. Bad script changes all over the place.
Doreen, Lizzie and Judy are not written off. Doreen and Lizzie continue on right up into the 400s episodes and Judy, right up 534...so don't panic yet... We'll all see the back of Ted Douglas in Episode 382, but the actor playing him makes a reappearance in episode 502 as a man of the cloth of all things.. But damn, if I can hardly wait to see psycho Dr. Kate get her just desserts..
So, things are beginning to take off at last, well it has been coming. Douglas can hold himself solely responsible for the riot because had he let Erica run things her way then it would never have happened. He is a clueless idiot with amateurish methods. He brings in one of the biggest known troublemakers in Marie in order to attempt to control the women from within and create peace in the place. If that isn't bad enough he then goes and promotes that witch Colleen over Meg. He gets every decision wrong and just asks for trouble. Seems odd with the quartet of Bea, Judy, Doreen and Lizzie all out of H block in one go for one reason or another.
Douglass is an a**hole. It is so strange without bea, Jude, lizzie and Dor you are right. Of course, they leave permanently later in the show, now that will be STRANGE!! NOT looking forward to that time without Bea, Jude and Lizzie, I'll even miss Dor to a degree but mainly the other 3.
I seriously don't think this "Chief Prison Officer" even existed before these past few episodes. lol the writers just came up with that out of nowhere and wrote it to sound like it had always been a thing when it hadn't at all: up til this point, other than the governor and deputy governor of course, none of the senior officers had any "rank" or seniority above one another. I remember after Vera had been demoted from deputy to just senior officer and she tried ordering Meg around a few times and Meg calling her out on it.
+James Cannon You're right, it is made up. When Terry Harrison arrived Vera said something about him having to take orders from a woman and Davo said he would be the same rank as Vera and answerable only to her or Fletch. The rank of chief prison officer was just invented as a device to make Collen a bitch and is never mentioned again after this storyline ends.
+Sean Harrison good to know I'm not the only one who noticed. lol Colleen was actually pretty likeable when she was just a background screw like Joyce Barry or that Officer Bailey. I guess when Vera left, the writers had her awkwardly fill the "bitch screw" void. probably before they hired Maggie Kirkpatrick to play Ferguson
Why do you call her a dummy? That's something babies have to calm them.. Don't forget she was caught up in a previous riot where her husband was killed. I'd be stuck to the spot too in that situation, I reckon.
No one wants to be union representatives. Usually a union committee is voted in. A president, V.P., secretary, treasurer and union Stewarts. Usually no one stands against you and you're stuck with that position for life. All that means is hundreds of hours of your free time. I guess that's a perfect job for Meg. Colleen probably started out like Meg. and look what happened to her.😢😢😢😢wrong spot sorry.😅 I didn't mean to put this as a response.
Lol. Vera was probably psyched to get away from this lot and what happens? She gets Judy and Doreen only weeks later. I hate to admit it, but I still found this episode exciting even with the main 4 out of the limelight.
True. I doubt they have the "mushies" now. But she still must have been annoyed to see Doreen and Judy again so soon. Though it may be different now that she runs things.
@@MarzieMalfoy as the old characters faded away to some of the new ones mouse was one that really stood out-- along with Margo I always thought they should be teamed together-- Margo and mouse ,sort of like George and Lennie From Mice and Men.
I'm sure I've seen Steve's haircut in a picture on the wall at the local barber... And who is the second new officer? Douglass informed Erica that there would be two new staff starting.
ooooooo what a great ending to the season. season 4 here we come i hope bea returns to take her place as top dog and i am looking forward to the freak making a appearence.
Sending Doreen & Judy to lower security Barnhurst & bringing in one of the most notorious troublemakers in the prison service - another farcical Douglas mandate that makes no sense. Of course Meg is spot-on about the atmosphere & potential for a riot. Po-Face is so caught up in her power trip she can’t see the forest for the trees. Meg is wrong about Bob being better than she deserves though. Still can’t stand Marie Winter... forcing drugs on people is a crap move for a Top Dog. (and as an aside - once you’ve seen the full series it’s sad seeing certain prisoners at this stage again knowing how things turn out for them eventually.)
I suppose there's a chance that the accident victim didn't match anyone on the list other than Bea? I don't know anything about transplants, so no idea how the compatibility works.
I was wondering how long it would take for Jim to go in on Steve, he seems to get jealous of every male who's better looking that gets a job at Wentworth.
When Jim asked if Douglas expected them to "break out the ankle irons", it reminded me of the people were wore those in the movie, _Escaping The Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story._ If you haven't seen the movie, watch it.
And so starts the Sandy Edwards riot... next to the Wentworth fire it's the second most important storyline. Interesting connection that during the riot Margo says that they should burn the place down. Well, she'll get her wish later on. From here, (246) until the end of that fire(335) when they take Margo out ,are the best episodes in my opinion.
My God Carlene that is Vera. WOW! I believe it is very possible to find the episode in which Bennett says that 😮 Almost like a ghostly sound echoing from the past 😱
I hear the similarities when she says "lot of you" though it is Colleen Powell. and it sounds just like her nurses character Vonne in All Saints many years on from Prisoner. She smoked liked a chimney in that show lol.
From what I have read in previous comments, there are certain sections of the old video tape reels where the vision has been damaged, but the audio was preserved. When they transferred to DVD they kept the audio and inserted a shot of something else in order to preserve the conversation.
Bonnie Chiaccio - yes Mouse gave Vera the pet rock as a joke ... but Vera threw it on the floor of the rec room on her way out... complete with a look of disgust lol I don’t recall it ever being addressed, but I’ve always assumed that it was found and that’s how Mouse ends up with it again.
2:21 Jim and Janet are both dull so let's cut to the empty car park instead! I'm not very clear on how come Sandy has a key to the cells. I'm a bit puzzled as to how they got the security gates open. Right at the end it looked as though the women threw a petrol bomb right in their own path for whatever reason. Oh, well - best not to spoil the fun with minor details.
Sandy got the outline of a key in the laundry bag that Fitzwater sends to the women (Ep 245), and then she made the shape to fit all locks with matches and scissors (I think) just before she lit the fire.
Riots!? I get it! DOH! 🙄! Marie going on about riots eventually results in a shit riot! There's actually a riot gonna happen! I didn't think that was for several episodes! Doh! Me again! 🤣🙄!
I wonder what Phyllis was like as an Avon lady? Did she threaten her neighbours with a nail file if they didn't buy the months bubble bath set? Gawd, probably ripped off the old ladies making them pay triple for hot rollers.
Why do the officer's not carry two way radios? Yes they did have video cameras and walkie talkies in the 80's and although they weren't everywhere like today. They did have them in police stations, prisons and government places. Afterall it was the 80's not the dark ages.
I think this is their way of introducing new people..I miss when they would show the story line on how people got in Wentworth, like the lady who ran down her husbands boss for raping their daughter..etc now they just shove folks in
It was sad to see doreen and judy leave, you get used to seeing them i hope that they get to come back at some point.this show is so good, i love all the different things that going on at the prison,i wish mrs powell would leave, im not liking her much anymore. i read that viewers were treating the actress that plays her bad, because of her character on the show. thats how good they are, so real life.
SPOILER - Keep an eye out for "Susie Driscoll"; that leads to Judy content.....As for Doreen - well, the end of the series needed something to keep it alive for a bit longer
@@tefllife2024 Yes, although this episode was probably filmed in August 1981. I think usually about 3 months of the next season would have been filmed in the previous year. In other words it's a long time before we reach an episode that was filmed in 1982, probably around the time that The Freak arrives.
