This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Prisoners, released in 2013 and directed by Denis Villeneuve. What a wild ride this movie is! Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal's acting in this kept me so invested and I had absolutely no clue where the story was going here. Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching! Let me know YOUR thoughts in the comments below!

Thank you, Kaiielle, for watching this incredible movie. I saw it when it first came out in theatres and I was amazed at how powerful it was. Some may find it slow, which it can be, but it's so riveting that you aren't aware of the time. I was so upset that come Oscar time, this movie was completely ignored. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor(Hugh Jackman), Best Supporting Actor(Paul Dano), Best Original Screenplay, should all have been recognized. Director Denis Villenueve is one of the best of today's movie makers. This is one of the best films I have seen over the last decade plus, and I wish that more people would react to it. You definitely should check out the PIB reaction. Thank you again for this reaction.

I know the ending for some is frustrating but early in the movie you learn about how persistent Jake’s character is. He’s never not solved a case. That should give the audience co finance that he’s going to find Dover at the end. He doesn’t stop…

Hey Kaielle, I had this movie on my recommended and save to later list but was dealing with stuff so didn't get around to it till now. And I still have to watch your Spiderman videos. Heck I haven't gotten around to watching some videos on other channels I follow either. I don't think I ever got around to ever seeing this, maybe , if I did it didn't stay with me the first time. so feels like the first time, this is my first reaction to it as well. The whole time I was watching I was getting the same kind of vibes as you about Mr Duver, I felt for him and had empathy for what he was going through , I ve never been the father of a missing child but I tried to understand what drove him. Felt terrible for Alex too , the whole time I wanted to believe he couldn't have done this. I also felt Viola Davis and Terrence Howard. Thank Goodness both girls eventually ended up back with their families. The trauma though for everyone , us included. Whew. I loved what you said , Good people can do terrible things In times of desperation and emotional trauma and stress. It's not a black and white movie , morally complex. I ve loved most everything Hugh Jackman.(Les Miserable) and Jake.Gyllenall (Zodiac ) have done so it was great to see them together. This reaction hit. But it's going to stay in my head

Denis Villenueve is a truly exceptional director, seamlessly melding artistic sensibilities with genre trappings that mass audiences can digest. If you thought this film was a harrowing experience, you need to watch his earlier films like Polytechnique and Incendies. Those films will shake you to your core, without a doubt. His work is something special, AND he's a Canadian, so AS a Canadian, I have a vested interest in the man haha

I thought Jake’s portrayal was amazing. He has this little nuanced twitch in some scenes. They never go into it, but we the audience see it and without any context the mind just understands he’s coming from some sort of trauma.. but they never explain it. He’s asked once about having a child.. he doesn’t answer. Makes me wonder. Great movie. When you get to Hugh in the movie Logan, you’ll love it! It’s so good.

Jackman as Joel would have been insanely incredible but Pedro still did a fantastic job. Also, to your review. I think Alex knew exactly what he's doing. I think he had been doing it for years but because he was forced into it. He still knew he was abducting those little girls when it happened, but, he had been trapped and programmed into it since his abduction. So in a way, Dover was right. Alex knew the truth of where the girls were. As far as X-Men movies. One of the more criticized ones but favorite one for me is Wolverine Origins and of course Logan. Those are more Wolverine movies than X-Men but what is X-Men without Wolverine tbh.

Alex was not an innocent even if he has the mind of a child. He still picked up two children in his RV in a neighborhood he had no business in. His "aunt" may have abducted them after that but it's very possible Alex had been helping her with other abductions as well. He knew where the kids were the whole time. What he said to Dover when he confronted him outside of the police precinct. Then hearing him sing the jingle the girls were singing. That's clearly enough to send any grieving parent over the edge. He clearly was abused and had issues from his own abduction but he was far from just being a victim here.

Alex was sitting in front of that house because it’s the house he got abducted from. A small part of him still remembered that house. So it wasn’t that he was in a random neighborhood it was a part of his childhood he was reminiscing that’s why the RV was just sitting there

@JPuReTaLeNt As tragic as his past is and having the mind of a 10 year old. He still should have common sense to know right from wrong. He still abducted two children. We don't know if this is even the first time he's done this.

Alex was abducted at a young age and definitely not raised properly during his incredibly important and formative years as a child and into his teen years. He likely doesn't know right from wrong in all situations he's in. And he may think wrong things are right things because of who his guardians were for so much of his life. 🥲

Why is it that everyone just ignores the fact that Mr. Dover was right?Alex knew where children were the whole time. All Alex had to do is tell Mr Dover where the girls were to stop the torture. And don't say that he has an IQ of a six year old either because even a six year old can tell you if someone's at their house.
@kaiielle
@kaiielle 5 месяцев назад
Have you ever been tortured like Alex was as a six-year-old or ten-year-old? If you haven't, then you have no idea how you would react in that situation or what you would say. It's so easy to sit here as an adult viewing a film and think that the circumstances are "easy" for Alex. But they're not and the complications of this are honestly what make this story THAT good for me.
@kevinjackson2122
@kevinjackson2122 5 месяцев назад
Have you ever had your child kidnapped? I think that you missed my point. It's wrong for anyone to do those things Dover did to another human being, but he was right in assuming that Alex knew where the girls were. Alex said something like "they didn't cry until I left them". Dover went to the police first and there was nothing that they could do. So you expect him to do nothing while his baby girl's life is possibly on the line? What parent would do that? Like he told the cop in the car, my daughter is waiting on her father to come save her; not you. If his daughter would have died, and he didn't do all that he could have to save her, do you think that he could have lived with himself?
@kaiielle
@kaiielle 5 месяцев назад
I discussed in this very video about how I compare Dover to Joel from The Last of Us, who did a much worse thing to people to save his kid over what Dover did. I completely understand the parental angle. People often use that as a reason to justify any behaviour to anybody and most people will say they're right and they are. I personally feel that Dover took it way too far with Alex, especially since it happened after he was given more information about him. It's a shitty situation all around. I think in this case you just empathize more with Dover and I empathize more with Alex.
@neekZDI
@neekZDI 3 месяца назад
I understand the hatred most people feel for Dover but it seems somewhat hypocritical to give him so much hate. Dovers character is a reflection of a person who in order to protect and save someone he loves will turn away from everything he believes in and become an absolute monster. His actions are unforgivable unreasonable and disgusting but how many of us could really say we wouldn't do the same if pushed and yes he was pushed Alex IS innocent but he knew, Loki was treating the entire situation as a job he didn't truly care for the families involved it was just a job. If someone let alone a father feels like theres no other choice they will do whatever it takes to save their kid even become a torturer like Dover.
@Ryan-ju4pn
@Ryan-ju4pn 3 месяца назад
I think you're unfairly judging Dover with one standard and Alex and others with another. The torture is hard to watch but Dover wasn't going off of zero evidence as you said. Besides the RV link and fleeing the police, Alex told Dover ominously "They didn't cry until I left them". When Dover is following Alex he hears him singing "Jingle Bells, Batman Smells", the same as the girls the day they went missing. At that point, the police have exhausted their methods and any dad worth his salt is going to go vigilante to uncover if his daughter is alive or dead and where she is. What else can he do? Go home and hope his daughter miraculously reappears? He was likely thinking Alex would give the information up quickly, once he roughed him up and threatened him with the gun, hammer, etc. The torture evolved after he crossed a few lines, but crossing that first line was not an evil choice. You don't voice much judgment either for Franklin and Nancy, the other set of parents, despite their complicity in Alex's imprisonment and torture. Even after Taylor is implicated in the disappearances or after their daughter is found, they haven't bothered to mention Alex's situation to the police. Alex was an adult and well into his 30s, and bears responsibility for kidnapping the girls and for not disclosing what he knew to the police. His childhood trauma may reduce his sentence, but as an adult, he is still answerable for his decisions. He knew where the girls were all along and the dad was spot-on. Alex's diminished IQ didn't prevent him from being able to operate an RV on the streets; he certainly would be expected to know right from wrong with kidnapping children. It's also likely Alex was an adult and present during some of the kidnappings and murders that took place before the priest killed Holly's husband. I have sympathy for this character, with what happened to him in childhood, but he doesn't get a pass when he's an adult for being complicit in harming other children.
