well to be fair there were anime with waifu anime girls , and they were not a small minority . But you could argue that they had more memorable characters that withstood the test of time ( lum for instance and so many others ) than they do now.
An all too true statement in my opinion. Love BGC in part because it allows the cast to be people. Not like so many series today who have to market the heck out of something, and thus go for that...nebulous uncomfortable boderline teenager sort of designs like what seems so common these days. After thirty years, I can safely say that I don't understand anime anymore. I guess I'll be sticking with the classics from here on out...for the most part.
I say this happened in the bladerunner universe. Be perfect seeing how originally bladerunner took place in 2019 and bubblegum crisis happened in 2032.
tbh the only reason I couldn't get into 2030 was the soundtrack. How do you take something as steeped in 80s altrock as this and replace it with 90s buttrock?
@@kentallard8852 Streets Of Fire's soundtrack is 90% 1950s rockabilly. Even the Tokyo 2040 soundtrack actually has more genuinely in common with it than the original soundtrack does. Repeating the myth that Bubblegum Crisis (original) has any relation to Streets Of Fire is a great way of showcasing that you've not actually seen Streets Of Fire.
Thank you for that. 2040 bugs the heck out of me and it's like 90% the music's fault, 10% the character designer's fault. BGC set a standard in the 80s that it feels like they didn't even try to compete with when making that series. I thought it was shameful. Money. Anime nowadays is (mostly) made to cater to otaku, and to get them to buy the DVD, Merch, source material, etc. Of course, there is plenty of nuance, but that's the main reason.
Influenced by Blade Runner. The city architecture and the intro, until the song starts, is a homage to Blade Runner. Overall, the series doesn't share much more than an aesthetic resemble.

Nope. If any film could be said to have inspired this opening, it would be Purple Rain. Streets Of Fire's only similarities are "made in the 80s" and "is a song"; everything about the way this opening is cut, and also the tone of the song itself, are much closer matches to Purple Rain, which itself is more explicitly referenced within the show and was the slightly bigger hit in Japan.
