I take my Prius-driving colleague David out for a ride in my Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor. This is his first experience behind the wheel of a Tesla and using the infamous Enhanced Autopilot mode. Well... I'll let his reaction to the Tesla Model 3 speak for itself! 🤣
Highlights
1:16 - David floors it for the first time!
2:16 - David floors it...again!
3:05 - Experiencing the Tesla enhanced autopilot for the very first time!
4:00 - The Tesla Model 3 merges automatically in rush hour traffic.

Pretty funny video the guy you took for a test drive should have his own channel he's pretty hilarious. The reality is you're comparing a $50,000 + car to a Prius which at most cost $30,000 new. You can pick up a mid trim level Prius for more like $22-25k. Or be even smarter and do what I did and buy a used Prius for about $5k It's a totally different type of car, the Prius is more practical quite frankly has a better back seat and more cargo capacity. Other than being a bit slow and rather boring to drive it's the more practical vehicle overall. I've driven a Tesla Model 3 and I own a second gen Prius. If money was No object and I hit the lottery I would buy a Tesla in a heartbeat because it's a seriously sweet car. The reality is I have a budget, I do all my own maintenance on my Prius and when I run the numbers, it would take me 16 years to break even, if I bought a brand new Prius versus a brand new model 3. That doesn't sound like A very good financial decision.
@ThatWhiteTesla
@ThatWhiteTesla 5 лет назад
My colleague would say the same thing. He bought his used and has got his money worth and then some. Can’t compare them on a financial level as the Prius is the more economical choice, no doubt. Where the Tesla shines is it’s fun while being economical, (at a higher price point overall) more comfortable/luxurious and offers much better technology all while emitting zero emissions versus just having good gas mileage but still burning dinosaurs. I looked at the Prius a few years ago. My gripe was Toyota really embraces the ugliness of the Prius as part of its brand identity. Just couldn’t do it!
@kens97sto171
@kens97sto171 5 лет назад
@@ThatWhiteTesla Totally agree with you, I drive a thousand miles a week. There's no way I'm putting 50,000 miles a year on a brand new car of any make. Much more economical to buy a used one with high miles drive it for 2-3 years and toss it, as long as you're confident and capable of picking the used car in the first place because otherwise that can turn into a nightmare. The new Prius is definitely not an attractive car, strangely I actually kind of like the way the 2'nd and 3'rd gen's look. Particularly the 3'rd gen is decently looking if it has the right wheels on it. The 4th gen is just not attractive on the outside. The interior is pretty nice however. They just did a redesign this year and made it yet even more boring an ugly in my opinion. I will say that the Prius Prime has some pretty decent looking headlights and taillights. They should have just taken the primes front and rear and stuck it on all of the Priuses and they would have done much better. for me the vehicle is a tool for a job so the fact that it's not that great looking doesn't really factor in so much. I would prefer it to look better but the reality is it's the best tool for the job. The Hyundai ioniq and Kia Niro are decent alternatives if you want a hybrid. However I truly like the simplicity of the Priuses powertrain, there's not much to go wrong inside that transmission and if you do the regular maintenance they run a long time, mine has 265,000 on it. Still gives me 45-48mpg. The Hyundai uses a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission after the electric motor. So it seems to me as a mileage start to climb up you're more likely to have issues as parts wear out.. But they are really nice cars if you're ever interested in a hybrid as a backup car go take a look at a Hyundai ioniq or a Kia Niro. There are also some EV models coming of the Ionic the Niro and the Kia Soul. The last two I believe having over 250 mile range. Have a good day.
@ThatWhiteTesla
@ThatWhiteTesla 5 лет назад
I think the Hyundai EVs are going to be game-changing for a different customer base who are looking for a cheaper EV. I wouldn't mind a hybrid as a backup car, but I need something that can do light off-roading given my location in Colorado.

This Prius owner doesn't need electric car driving lessons, he needs driving lessons, period. When you are in the right lane, driving faster than the traffic in the right lanes, and not trying to merge right, you're driving badly. I like the concept of the Tesla, and that it has gotten the big companies to get off their asses. But for what one costs, I could get a hybrid and have enough left over to pay for 10 years of gasoline. I'm not a bleeding edge adopter of new tech that lacks comprehensive support infrastructure; don;' like the feeling of something sharp sticking in my back or my wallet. I'll wait until Tesla inspires some more affordable PEVs (without government tax deductions) with ranges like its first generation Model 3 long distance model, and there are enough very quick charging stations that range anxiety isn't a concern. (That looks to be 10 years off). Today a 600 mile cross country trip that takes 10 hours in an ICE in a 2019 Bolt under ideal conditions would take +14 hours in including past charging time- assuming that an open fast charge stall were available at every stop.

When you enable AutoPilot it tells you with a msg on the screen to keep your hands on the wheel. That is what is required in these SAE Level 2 systems. The TM3 owner is irresponsible for not clarifying this. Tesla AutoPilot will make mistakes and you may get hurt. Follow the requirements or get into an accident.

@_diogenes1

mrpmj00 - Your feedback is spot on, but each of those are adjustable in the menu. Ride is too firm: you can adjust the ride feel from firm to normal to soft in the menu. Regen Braking: can also be completely disabled in the menu screen. Heavy steering: this is related to your first feedback and changing the drive firmness response will also address the steering feeling lighter like a luxury car and less like a sports car. Noisy interior - most people find the drive extremely quiet due to the lack of engine noise. I do know that some have wind noise in the glass panels and they sell an inexpensive rubber liner to address that. Ps... I do own a model 3 performance, never been a fan of corvettes until that remodeled ver on your icon. “Sic”👍🏽

@@_diogenes1 Yes, the Tesla sales manager went on the test drive with me and he set it to the softest ride and least aggressive regenerative braking but they're both too much for a luxury sedan; also too much road noise for a luxury sedan. So, I'll be getting either a Mercedes E450 or redesigned 2019 Lexus ES350 which are quite and comfortable (and a luxury dashboard) that I am looking for in a luxury sedan.
